New Song: Nicole Scherzinger – ‘Cold’

Published: Sunday 23rd Jan 2011 by Sam

While Nicole Scherzinger continues to ready her sophomore effort, a new cut from the set has surfaced in the form of ‘Cold’. The icy midtempo was produced by Dave Aude, who also conjured up the singer’s latest single ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’.

Take a listen to ‘Cold’ after the jump…

The song’s title is particularly apt. For, yet again, Scherzinger delivers material which neither moves nor rouses.  To her credit, ‘Poison’ and ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’ are relatively solid – with even this song presenting a winning face lyrically. However for an act as talented as her, as well as the fact she is clearly a label priority, how her musica manages to be so ‘just there’ is beyond me.

Here’s hoping I’m forced to eat humble pie when that album drops. After all, I believe Nicole has the talent to truly be a force. Yet, as you know, we don’t encourage nor applaud mediocrity around these sides. No maam.

Mediocrity? Did you even hear those vocals during the bridge?? Def one of her best!

I loved this from the first listen yesterday, and i’m not a massive Nicole fan either. I definitely think that this would do better over here in the UK if it was released as a single. The fact that it has been produced by Dave Aude ia a major bonus and I would definitely be anticipating the album a lot more if I knew that there was going to be more tracks like this on it.

way better than hold ur breath

  4. Keri Fan January 23, 2011

So basically, Nicole is going the Rihanna route and recording generic s*** that radio will eat up. It’s so annoying when talent sells out.

  5. Daniel January 23, 2011

LOVE IT!! NICOLE’S VOCALS ARE HOT!!! Not as good as Poison or Don’t Hold Your Breath, but it’s still fabulous. Can’t wait for the album!!!! Hopefully she gets some success this time around.

I personally remember best the Nicole who was going crazy on those groovy jazz-styled hip-hop beats with Timbaland. Well, it was mostly just “In Person” that laid such an impression on me. I was hoping to see a lot of that, but it’s obviously not the direction Nicole wants.

I like this song, but it just didn’t make me impressed.

  12. GangsterA January 23, 2011

I know we women have lots of standards to pick up a man, and there’s one website that can almost meet all our different demands:
    ~~Bla c k w h it e F lirts. C” 0_ M ~~~my sisiter told me this; it worked for her, it worked for me; and i’m sure it’s gonna work for u, buddy!!

  18. FUTURESTARdelux January 23, 2011

It’s “ok”, sounds like a Girls Aloud song that didn’t make an album though.

  19. Drew January 23, 2011

I’m not a Nicole fan at all, but i will say this song is okay…Not great, but ok. Poison was awful though. Yes, this song does sound old though.

  20. DJ AD January 23, 2011

Jesus, you can’t write for s***.

  21. karen24 January 23, 2011

  22. ThatMigrator January 23, 2011

Good stuff! I’m definitely interested in her next effort now.
P.S. Your lil review was very unclear. Just leave all the writing to Trent next time, thanks.

  23. Nick C January 23, 2011

I like the lyrics and I think her vocals are amazing on this BUT WITH THAT SAID… this track is so boring. I hope it gets re-worked. This should put me in a trance and make me want to dance but in fact it makes me want to take a nap. It needs some bite to it.

  24. Jer January 23, 2011

Me and my friend decided that she just needs to move to the UK and just release music there because that’s the only market she will do well in Just stay over there and quit trying to make it in the US every single. This song is a good album track. “Poison” was atrocious. That last song that leaked seemd to be her best yet. Where is her KILLER SINGLE? You can’t just drop album tracks, you have to have those singles. These artists need a lesson in 90’s pop– you HAVE TO have huge singles and then do whatever artsy/creative/different genre you want on the album

  25. Aryo January 23, 2011

YESSSS, finally it leaked! Ive been w8in 4 this s*** since long time ago when i heard the snippet first!, Its such a dope song and i really hope she puts it in her album!

  26. Aryo January 23, 2011

how can some of u call this boring??? well its definitely not a boring track IMO

  27. ERIC January 23, 2011

This song is actually enjoyable! Really good one! It’s totally going to be a Club-hit! Keep it going Nicole!

  28. Steve January 23, 2011

Love it, really good song – best ive heard from this era so far

  29. @Its_Caio January 23, 2011

OMG…I love this song, but i prefer “Don’t Hold Your Breath” anyway i love every songs of nicole! HIT

  30. CHECKMATE January 23, 2011

No one is checking for Flopzinger. She’s a flop stateside. She’s lucky if the cd hits 70k-80k come drop date. There’s just something about Flopzinger that’s not appealing as a person to fans and make them go “yaaaawn”. She’s fake and not real. Kisses ass waaaay too much where it’s not warranted. She was the same way on xfactor – fake, fake, fake!! She best be moving to UK like Kelly and Michelle cuz she aint gonna make it on this side of the pond. Truth..

  31. Aryo January 23, 2011

^^^ B**** PLEASE! WATCH HER LIVE PERFORMANCES THEN I WANNA C IF UR GONNA CALL HER FAKE AGAIN OR NOT!

  32. Who’s Cedric? January 23, 2011

This sucks. Sorry but Nicole belongs in a group, she’s not as good as the thinks she is. She stood out in PCD because she was in a group with other mediocre girls, bar Melody to some extent. But on her own she just doesn’t cut it. And as for Poison, that song is the absolute pits, if it wasn’t for X Factor it would not have made it into the top 5…just sayin.

  33. lola January 24, 2011

WTF is wrong with y’all ears? This b**** is a horrible singer! She’s yelping the damn chorus and this single is so boring, generic, and dated. She’s a flop and doesn’t have a great voice. It sounds like her vocals are strained. She just needs to give it up. She only stood out in PCD becaue she had a striking look; it was her tan, dark long hair, and race/ethnicity that people were intrigued by. Without the rest of the girls, she’s nothing.

  34. CHECKMATE January 24, 2011

    @ARYO

Um, dude… I’ve seen her live performances and she’s still fake ass. So what’s ur point??

  35. Goldie January 24, 2011

Flawless vocal performance. Amazing song. Better than Don’t Hold Your Breath musically speaking, still gonna fail commercially, which is a shame.

  36. melca jean mationg January 26, 2011

    hot!!!i love nicole!!shes my inspiration

  37. Dani January 30, 2011

this isn’t a sophmore effort, since her album never was released after the first few singles failed and she returned to the Dolls for their album “Doll Domination”. Some of the songs that were supposed to be on her solo album was put on “Doll Domination”.

Her single Poison did well in the UK and I agree with other commentators that she will get only get success overseas

  38. Dani January 30, 2011

    @ Keri Fan
how did Nicole sell out? Did u not hear the music she made with PCD?
It isn’t like she went from making masterpieces to generic. I liked PCD songs, but come on their songs were just as generic as other pop singers
