Adele Performs ‘Someone Like You’ On ‘Ellen’

Published: Thursday 24th Feb 2011 by Trent

Adele hit the stage on ‘The Ellen Degeneres Show’ today. The R&B/Soul singer performed ‘Someone Like You’ from her ’21’ album which is projected to debut on the Billboard 200 next week with estimated sales of 300k units.

Peep her performance below:

It is interesting that some of the best singers out today have come from the UK. Adele, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Jessie J easily put the bulk of the US talent to shame. Maybe the upcoming season of ‘The X-Factor US’ will highlight more vocalists with substantial talent.

Thoughts?

    SHE’S INCREDIBLE

  2. kevin February 24, 2011

    The biggest and best still hail from the USA, but you guys have produced some great talent lately. Guess everyone isn’s as stiff across the pond as they say, lol.

  3. the kiddz February 24, 2011

    Oh, please. The most innovative and diverse are in Korea and soon they will be taking over the US.

    Anyway, awesome performance. I’m so mad that Target is sold out of Adele’s album. Why would they only carry 4 copies?!

  4. JJFAN1814 February 24, 2011

    I bought the album yesterday!! “Set Fire To The Rain” “Rolling In The Deep” “One & Only” & “Someone Like You” are the standouts!

  5. Mike February 24, 2011

    @THE KIDDZ

    You just sound like an idiot.
    Really just s*** up.
    God you’re annoying.

  6. MissUnderstood February 24, 2011

    YAS! TGJ better stan for my girl, Adele 🙂

    @TheKiddz
    I agree. If America isnt trying to feed us talent anymore, we as people should look elsewhere for it. Even if that means looking overseas 🙂

  7. Juliana February 24, 2011

    She’s SOOOOO AMAZINGG!! There’s just no words for her!! and I totally agree with you that the UK are spitting out amazing vocalists. I never buy albums but I had to buy Alexandra’s and Adele’s album there my favourite at the moment!! Just true raw talent. Love Love Love!

  8. Tha Phoenix February 24, 2011

    Yes, without a doubt some of the best female talent (Mamma Monster aside) to emerge in the last five years has come from over here in the UK.

    Leona, Alex Burke, Adele, Jessie J; all four of my favourite artists (not my faves – just favourite artists, though I am an almost stan for Alex). They can all sing and Alex can slay performance wise as well.

    Love this performance. Yet another outstanding vocal delivery from Ms. Adele.

    *applause*

    *sips Martini and goes back to newspaper*

  9. The NAKED Truth February 24, 2011

    I LOVE HER!!!

    This album is AMAZING!

  10. Jamie February 24, 2011

    Adele is a true artist. She had me @ Chasing Pavements, and that was at first listen. This is one more album that I’m going to buy!!!

  11. True Blue February 24, 2011

    This hasn’t aired yet in my time zone, so I’ll catch it later. But I know she slated.

    @ The Kiddz:

    Aw, sorry about not being able to find her CD, lol. And I agree that the best talent to emerge as of late isn’t from the US, with a couple of exceptions.

  12. True Blue February 24, 2011

    * SLAYED, not slated. Damn autocorrect.

  13. the kiddz February 25, 2011

    @Mike

    How do I sound like an idiot, again? For stating MY opinion? O_o

    @True Blue

    You have her album? I don’t want to listen to it on youtube, so I’ll wait for them to get more instock. Hopefully, before the sale ends. Lol

  14. gabs February 25, 2011

    I love her so much! Listened to this song so many times. Ah. Well Alexandra burke and Jessie J havent made their crossover to my shores yet so I have no idea about them but its true that leona and Adele are amazing! I dont understand why people care about what country has the most talented singers? Who cares? As long as they have talent I dont care about where they are from

  15. Chile Please!! February 25, 2011

    What is the big hype about this chick I mean her voice is OK nothing to jump up, spin, & fall into a fab dip about. Girl Bye! NEXT!

  16. AuntieJackie February 25, 2011

    The United States doesn’t want singers–hence UK artists not selling s*** in the U.S. (in general)

    The U.S. has the most talent in the world, co-signed by a Brit named Simon Cowell. The music she’s singing–the United States of America created. The music Jessie J is singing–U.S. of A created that.

    Record companies in the U.S. want b******* pop artists that can’t sing. Trust, if they wanted vocalist they could find them. They’re a dime a dozen in the U.S. Adele is great, but come on now….her whole style is a rip-off of old school Black American singers.

    So yeah, the U.K, is letting in artists that can sing–but most of those that can sing want to be like or lift much of their style from the United States (new school or old school). I’m. not. impressed.

  17. Robier February 25, 2011

    No America has plenty of talent but the audience only rewards dance music right now

  18. Lioness February 25, 2011

    PAUSE…Jill Scott, Angie Stone, India Aire, Fantasia, and more all sing circles around the names listed. Not to take away credit from the ones listed above..just that statement is not true.

  19. Quincy10 February 25, 2011

    Imagine having that kind of an amazing voice!?! I’d sing damn near everyone and p*** off everyone and their mama.

    A different cover of Someone Like You with awesome background vocals especially at the end Whooo! – http://youtu.be/In8aExXmFPE?a

  20. Cannibal February 25, 2011

    Yess Queen Adele is steadily and sneakily snatching these gurls wigs.

    SN: “Set Fire to the Rain” is incredible and should be the next single.

    They reward outstanding artist too though. Adele is selling well. Sade still sold well in the US after a ten year hiatus. Alicia and Whitney both sold well also. I wouldn’t say talent is forgotten but promo and great support is still needed for talented artists.

  22. JohnVidal February 25, 2011

    I´m so glad and also surprised of her success! YES
    300.000 copies is really great nowadays. The first huge numbers on first week this year! Yes, it had to be someone with talent to do it
    The album is amazing!!!

  23. THEMAN February 25, 2011

    This is huge !!!!!!!! 300k is huge at anytime, especially for her !!!

  24. JJFAN1814 February 25, 2011

    For someone who isn’t relevant on U.S. radio (but she’s doing great on U.S. Itunes) and breaking through a different country, especially the U.S. (where dance music is generally the craze nowadays), I’m glad she’s found a niche in the audience that’s embracing her. 🙂

  25. Oh please February 25, 2011

    No Trent the “talent” coming out of the UK does not put the bulk of the US talent to shame! Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Jessie J are average at best. I can find 20 girls from the beauty shop down the street or the church on the corn who sound better then the 3 of them combined. If you want to speak on talent from the UK try to limit your comparison to actual talent such as Adele, Corinne Bailey Rae & Amy Winehouse!

    Thanks a bunch!

  26. DION-ISH February 25, 2011

    OMG Sooooo Good!

    Someone Like You is like a Little Piece of Heaven.

    I Love that she makes true/meaningful Gay anthems but because shes not prancing around in outrageous outfits and trying to get “catchy” simple lines its not notified like it should be.

    Her lyrics are so Deep, Clever and Meaningful but yet still simpl(ly) amazing.

  27. DION-ISH February 25, 2011

    And i Find Trents Comment Humorous. Theres a TON of talented artist in the USA, UK and all around the world. Its wait YOU listen and pay attention too.

    ppl Like Trent arent focused on True Talent and meaningful records….Hes more about the sales, popularity, and image TBQH.

    He even said something along the lines of Who is Arcade Fire, They dont deserve artist/album of the year because there unknown?? Um Excuse me sir but there AMAZING, and Very well known.

  28. SWEWst February 25, 2011

    Amazing!

  29. JuanR February 25, 2011

    She is great!

  30. CURLY SUE February 25, 2011

    SHES COOL. NOTHING TO GO CRAZY OVER. I PREFER JESSIE J

  31. True Blue February 25, 2011

    @ The Kiddz:

    I don’t own it yet, but it’s not impossible to find it where I live. If you can’t find it in your local store, you can order it on Amazon, just wait a couple days to get it. In the meantime, you can listen to the album in its entirety on Grooveshark for free.

    @ Dion-ish:

    When did Trent say that Arcade Fire didn’t deserve to win because nobody knew them? Please link me to that comment!

  32. DION-ISH February 25, 2011

    ^^^

    It was on twitter, Grammy night….I dont know if i can go back that far to get it.

    And he didnt say it like that, He was basically saying s*** like who on the Grammy committee made such decision? Who are they? it shoudlve went to such and such etc. etc.

  33. TJ February 25, 2011

    The folks in the USA just don’t get to hear about all the great new artists we have in the uk. Including: Ellie goulding, Adele, Duffy, rumer, Florence and the machine, Diana vickers, alexandra Burke, Cheryl cole, Eliza Doolittle, katie melua to name but a few!! Google them!!!!!

  34. TJ February 25, 2011

    And… Those above from the us talk about singers whereas the uk produces ARTISTS!! WHO CAN SING, WRITE AND COMPOSE THEIR ENTIRE ALBUM!

    THE UK IS RESPECTED THROUGHOUT EUROPE AFRICA AND ASIA AS THE MUSIC CAPITOL. MANY SAY THE US IS JUST AN ANOLMALY WITH CRAPPY AUTOTUNED CRAP THAT WE BRITS CAN’T STAND! There is some talent though… Inc. Gaga, Houston etc…….

  35. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ February 25, 2011

    @The Kiddz

    I hate to cheat and listen to it on YouTube. After listening to 2 or 3 songs, I couldn’t stop, LOL. But that doesn’t mean I won’t purchase it, though.

    Anyway, can’t watch the performance right now, in a rush, but I’m SURE she did great!

  36. RihannaForever February 25, 2011

    @Amazing~Lee/@TheKiddz
    You guys don’t like listening to an album before you purchase it? LOL, I always do, just to ensure that it won’t be a waste of my money. Except for Nicki, Rihanna and Korean albums. I just blindly purchase those.

    @TheKiddz
    Oh my God, I love your Gravatar! I totally agree, too. Korean artists>>>>American. Also, did you hear about Big Bang’s charting? I’m so happy for them, LOL.

  37. Karol T February 25, 2011

    Here’s an excellent American artist for ya: Neko Case! Get her on!!!

  38. VA STAND UP!! February 25, 2011

    Wow! She sounds amazing! There aren’t many people who can sounds just as good live as they do on a recording, so kudos to her!

    I’ve been hearing about her so much but I haven’t really been paying but I might have to start now. She kinda reminds me of Amy Winehouse, who I love BTW, her voice is so soulful.

  39. ANAK February 25, 2011

    I’ll be seeing her live in Milan next 30th of March! 😀 can’t wait! Love this song, Rolling In The Deep and some others songs. But I’m not yet that convinced about the whole album.. In fact, I still prefer the first, 19.. fell in love with her when I saw her performing Hometown Glory

  40. Randy ho February 25, 2011

    Brilliant timing for Adeles success. HUGE globally and shows Gaga up for the gimmicky publicity stunt artist she is….all flash no substance.

    I also agree that Set fire to the rain is AMAZING!! My fave track of hers ever

    I let it fall, my heart…and as it fell you rose to claim it

  41. Scott February 25, 2011

    I really hope there is a Brit girl takeover of the US this year.The British love soul music and Adele, Leona, Alexandra, Cherri V and Duffy have beautiful strong voices.I am rooting for them all as they do not mime, use autotune and always sing live.

  42. antertain February 26, 2011

    Putting aside the US/UK foolishness all I can say is she SANG that.
    Completely told the story and had me locked into her singing.

    Very emotional performance

  43. quiana lezley vallentine February 28, 2011

    I love adele she is amazing. i love her hoby. smoking. lol she is really funny makes me smile to wake up and hear her in the morning. im 14 and she is my music hero!!! lol

  44. Carolyn Flaherty March 6, 2011

    She has amazing voice – she captures the true feelings of how people relationships are thru her words in her music – and I continue to listen to her songs – one of my favorites is some one like you – Adele thank you for being the Artist you are

  45. Sivakumar Balasubramanian May 5, 2011

    I believe the song – ‘Someone like you’ is a rip off from Shania twain’s – When you kiss me, hear it out closely 🙂
