Lady GaGa’s ‘Born This Way’ can’t be stopped. After crushing the records previously held by Britney Spears, the singer’s 1st single from her new album of the same name has matched the accomplishments of another Pop titan – Beyonce.
‘Born…’ has experienced a 14% increase in digital sales this week, climbing from 448k to 509k downloads. This makes the track the 1st #1-debuting single Digital Songs chart to achieve that feat since Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ in 2008.
The airplay figures for ‘Born…’ also managed to rise by 7% to 84 million audience impressions, helping it to maintain its position at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. By comparison, Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ fell to #6 on the tally in its 2nd week.

She basically had no promo AT ALL. ‘Halo’ which went number 5 on Billboard…was only performed once at an award show, and no where else. ‘Halo’ was also number 1 in Brazil for 27 weeks, with no promo at all…you’d be a fool to say Beyonce hasn’t had any international success.

What’s interesting is that despite Gaga’s “Born This Way” starting out stronger than Britney’s “Hold It Against Me,” it doesn’t seem to have much staying power on the radio. Britney’s song has been out a lot longer and it gradually rose in airplay for about 7 weeks until today’s Mediabase Airplay Chart when it finally started losing radio spins when it declined by 17. Gaga’s song has only been out for 2 weeks, and it’s already showing a loss on the chart, but with a much larger decline of 523. Britney’s song peaked at about 10.5K radio spins, while Gaga’s has peaked at 9.5k radio spins. Thus, Britney’s song seems to be much more popular on the radio. Gaga has an amazing fan base though, and her Little Monsters really do support her, which is proven by her outstanding and very fast sales.

Out of people I know, most seem to like “Hold It Against Me” better than “Born This Way.” Although “Born This Way” did not at all live up to the hype, I still like the song. I think “Hold It Against Me” is an insanely crappy song. The only good part of it is the breakdown in the middle. The lyrics suck, Britney is an awful singer, and the video was underwhelming. “Born This Way” has okay lyrics, a pretty good beat, and solid vocals from Gaga. I’m really excited to see Gaga’s video for the song, I’m sure she’ll knock it out of the park.

That means that Gaga is the next decade’s Beyonce. Just as pivotal as Beyonce was to the 2000s, Mariah was in 90s, Madonna & MJ were in the 80s. EPIC.
