David Guetta Talks About Usher’s “New” Sound

Published: Thursday 3rd Feb 2011 by Trent

Usher TV caught up with David Guetta backstage at one of Usher’s recent ‘OMG’ tour stops in the UK. The producer, who takes credit for creating the “bridge between Urban and Electronic music”, used the opportunity to speak about Usher’s upcoming “Revolutionary Pop” project.

Furthermore, Guetta claimed that the former R&B singer was actually the 1st artist to request to work with him, long before Kelly Rowland and the Black Eyed Peas. See the footage below:

Guetta must still have several problems with his English because Rowland regularly stated that she was the 1st Urban act to work with him. In fact, she even noted that she was the person who introduced Usher to the Urban/Dance products of her time in the studio with Guetta.

Furthermore, Guetta is quite bold in his claims that he started the movement between Urban and Electronic music. I might be mistaken but David Morales has been combining those genres since the early 1990s with his remixes.

Thoughts?

    Whos David Morales?!???!?

LMFAO! Guetta is right in saying that.
His songs have been huge international hits.
Using different Urban and Pop artists in his dance songs.

I’ve never seen David Morales name on billboard…

  2. kasey February 3, 2011

Usher….one question…are you on crack? Celebs are definitely not role models, they have more stress than regular folks.

  3. BREEZYTHEBEST February 3, 2011

Because Usher is in the know he realizes that CB is officially back and in the good graces of most of mainstream. Usher has to do what he got to do to try to hold on to his crown before CB snatches it up which will def be soon. #TRUESTORYCBWILLBEHEIRTOTHETHRONE.

  4. gio88 February 3, 2011

As a long-time supporting usher fan, I’m intrested in hearing what he comes up with. That is… if it’s true to what he says. If I hear ANOTHER jason derulo, justin beiber type track … I’m Done.

  9. HoneyBeymylove February 3, 2011

Im so in love with him i din’t give a damn what anyone said he’s so s*** to me

  10. almostpia February 3, 2011

I’m not a whole Usher fan but he stays winning unless he makes pure unadulterated crap music and lucky he avoidds that. I’ll wait to see the results of his material.

Umm and just because an artist takes on the new electronic/europop doesn’t mean his audience accepts it. In large the urban community still rejects the europop sound.

  11. OLO February 3, 2011

lol david moral remixed URBAN records into dance records. he didnt mix it for original songs. thatgrapejuice always write the most dumb thing

  12. Jae February 3, 2011

  14. hp February 3, 2011

people need to get over theses artist moving with the times you didnt see them complaing when they had to make disco in the 70’s,rock in the 80’s r&b in the 90’s,hip hop & r&b in oo’s,every great artist does it mj for example in the 70’s with jasckson 5 and some solo singles were disco then the 80’s rolled around he did rock then 9o’s came around he did r&b get over it people it happens

  19. delroy February 3, 2011

Well all that i can say is that i have a feeling that the UK will move away from this s*** sound by the summer so he will need to put that LP out pretty soon to get a hit over here. And what happened to more it’s no longer in our chart tbh it was s*** s*** s*** .

  20. stan February 3, 2011

eh, do whatever you want, usher.

  21. Royalkev February 3, 2011

I will always check out what Usher’s doing before throwing him under a bus. I just don’t like anything Guetta! I’m not impressed with him at all. I haven’t heard anything yet that would make me get excited about him working with any of my favs. I think his work is very cliche house music. I just hope Usher doesn’t start following trends too much!

  25. Speaks Truth February 3, 2011

As a long long long time usher fan I want him to do very well but I do not like his pop music, I’m sorry, I love “OMG” but that stuff on “VENUS” I can get wit it but I’m going try to becuz my options seem like no ones going be putting out pure R&B this year so I guess I have to try to connect to it!!!! Smh

  26. MISHKA February 3, 2011

Usher still want to do pop? Hi choice I just wish he would add something of his own in those pop songs. “OMG” is such a stupid generic song. Usher downgraded himself because of those commercial tunes

“Sweet dreams” by Beyoncé, “Forever” by Chris Brown, “Teenage Dream” from Katy Perry or “Bad Romance” from Lady Gaga are great pop records. Lyrics are just as important than the beat.

  27. Blasian February 3, 2011

Really Usher David Guetta? *holds head down*

  28. KYLE February 3, 2011

I THINK THIS FOOL MEANS FEMME FATALE WILL BE REVOLUTIONARY POP. SMDH.

  29. Laurie February 3, 2011

  30. D.Strock February 3, 2011

I’m diggin Usher’s shades in that video. Like seriously.

Oh yeah back to topic…uh, Guetta…cool.

  31. Jer February 3, 2011

Who just asked who David Morales is? sit down. Donna Summer needs the first props because it was THAT B**** who did the damn thing. You f****** stans act like Usher and BeYAWNce and LilWayne and all these m************ are the first of their kind. Donna Summer did electronic music in the late 70’s. Donna Summer did everything. She made MUSIC. And Mariah Carey came thru and did the same thing 20 years later. It’s not new. It’s just new to you f****** stan ass hipsters

  32. Muni February 3, 2011

Shut up David u contradicting urself u first said KELLY ROWLAND was the first to approach you and now Usher who is next? KELLY doesnt need you anyways

BE ready for KELLY first single withing weeks!!

  33. lola February 3, 2011

Thank you Trent for pointing out that Kelly Rowland was quoted in an article saying that SHE WAS THE FIRST ACT, URBAN OR NOT URBAN, TO WORK WITH DAVID GUETTA AND INSPIRED USHER to do it! I have a feeling that Usher convinced Guetta to say that because of the small controversy surrounding him about changing his sound to POP. To be honest, Usher is too damn old to be doing bubblegum, electronic, cliche POP music! It’s actually getting quite old. Trust, it’ll be over this year and I’m positive that it’s going to back fire on him. “OMG” had a hot beat, but the LYRICS SUCKED ASS! Those were some of the most horrible lyrics that I have ever heard in my life. It sounded like something a horny, teenaged boy would sing. Plus “DJ Got Us Falling In Love” is wack and only did well because the sound is in.

Usher is nothing without R&B. Usher is a natural R&B and SOUL artist. His voice doesn’t fit well with this new sound and all of Guetta’s urban acts have failed miserable. Examples, Kelis, Kelly Rowland, Estelle, and that single he had with Kid Cudi. Usher needs to face it, his time is up! 1.5+ million copies worldwide of this album is awful for someone of his status, especially when artists like Katy Perry, Rihanna, Gaga, Beyonce, Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle have sold starting from 2 million-12 million copies of their album!

And to the fool who said that urban people or the urban audience doesn’t buy albums, THAT’S BECAUSE ALL THE URBAN ACTS ARE NOT PROMOTED WELL OR ARE MAKING REAL MUSIC LIKE THEY DID 10-20 YEARS AGO! It’s funny how Monica, Brandy, SWV, TLC, Brian McKnight, Baby Face and more sold millions and million of albums with real R&B/Soul music from the urban audience, yet “urban people don’t buy albums.” When was the last urban song you heard that was up to par with what the acts listed above released? And Keyshia Cole always went platinum with her R&B albums with little promotion and Alicia Keys sells millions of albums doing strict R&B, Soul, and funk music.

  34. DION-ISH February 4, 2011

I See nothing Wrong with Usher doing Pop Music.

I Mean he still does R&B records as well and supposly for this new album he’s combining the two…If other R&B acts can do it (and some even fail at it) Why cant Usher, who’s successful at it. I Love his new records and i cant wait to see what he has in store for this next album.

i Mean Michael was also Pop/R&B/Soul …..Usher idol is obv MJ and if the man wants to do the same…Go for it.

  35. Seriously.. February 4, 2011

Just to correct some of you clowns, Raymond V. Raymond did over 2 million worldwide!!!! Its ok for Chris Brown to do pop but not Usher. Trent you are such a biased b****!!

  36. jussaying February 4, 2011

Usher’s idol was never MJ…. it was Bobby Brown. Thank you & goodbye.

  37. jb February 8, 2011

It both them I believe Mj and BB they great dance and performent act……

  38. kasfird April 8, 2011

whether you like it or not , his album took best contemporary r&b album at the grammys.’ there goes my baby’ also took the best song performance awards at the grammys. so shut up all you haters and be objective.his name is a household name in music all around the world and you cant take that away from him

  39. Terrance May 3, 2011

David Guetta got it all wrong and he knows that he aint the first. Experimentation with sound was around for quite some time with Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer. Even legends like David Morales took Mariah Carey straight to number one with his chart topping remix productions. Morales’ resume is quite lengthy and more versatile from his numerous Underground club banging anthems to the more obviously commercial style David Guetta is now known for. So please people get the facts straight. Ignorance is Bliss (“,)
