With it almost being a year since ‘Commander’ surfaced, many have been left scratching their heads as to the whereabouts of Kelly Rowland‘s third studio album.
Perhaps sensing the growing impatience within her supporters, the Grammy winner took to her official website today to update fans on the status of the project.

Hey everyone,
I just wanna first start off by telling you all thank you SO much for being incredibly patient in waiting for the album. The making of this album has been an emotional roller coaster but empowering for me, which you will hear once it’s all done. I’m just taking my time to make sure it’s everything I want it to be. Just an FYI, it is shaping up beautifully! All the producers and writers are passionate masterminds, and I thank them for their creativity! Also, this album is NOT limited, I am not allowing ANYONE to put me in a box, with sound. That’s not where I belong. The album IS consistent sonically and I am writing, creating, having fun, and healing………it’s been a BLAST!!! I wanted to bring you guys up to speed with the album! I love you all dearly! While I, too, am itching to see the project finally rolled out, there is a ‘business’ slant to this which many are neglecting to consider. In not beating about the bush, Kelly’s background (and the drama surrounding it) is well-documented (see: Mathew Knowles, preferential treatment etc). Hence, if success is the name of the game for her and her label, the clearly have to play their cards oh-so-right and make sure every move is calculated to a ‘T’. Reliable word reaffirms that she is a priority at Universal Motown, hence patience really is the name of the game here.
Although (and perhaps somewhat contradicting myself), there are a barrage of new releases on the horizon; hence accelerating the creative process is becoming a must with each new promo pic or snippet which surfaces of another act.

I know this site loves MIss Kelly, but let’s not sugar coat this. Kelly had a simmer of a buzz over the summer and didn’t take advantage, which basically showed her label didn’t know what to do with her. She signed with a label who is notorious for push backs until the artist’s entire project is eventually shelved. Yes Kelly can sing and it can be argued that she is a better artist than what is considered hot right now. But with the short attention span of the actual buying public she will be lucky to do Ciara numbers. And when her project doesn’t reach expectations the overused and very old excuse of Matthew and his daughter did her wrong can’t be used. By the way can someone name an artist that came from a group and didn’t sing lead but was more successful the actual lead of the group after they went solo? I’ll wait…
Lets give Ms.Kelly a chance. Even though i almost gave up on her i got a feeling she’s going to Deliver and show that she belong in the game. If Kelly wasnt Gorgeous and didn’t have a Beautiful voice i wouldve be like girl 4get this waiting, Next. But Kelly is Gorgeous and her voice is Beautiful and getting Powerful and she’s Beyonce’s bestie soo she get a pass from me and she Deserves a chance.

I was one of Kelly’s biggest supporters last year. I was waiting for her to really dominate 2010 – especially as I knew the Trinity would be making their return this year and every other female artist would have to fall to the back.
But she decided she wants to try and play with the big dogs. It’s no secret that the Trinity is going to dominate 2011 and 2012 – and the hype over Kelly’s album has died down. It’s a shame because she’s talented but she’s simply not hungry enough.
It also seems that she has that Sense Of Entitlement that I always talk about – people who think they’re entitled to success simply because of what they’ve had in the past.

I agree with @Tha Phoenix. I’ve been rooting for Kelly, because I really want her to succeed. But, she clearly doesn’t want it enough. And how was this an album update? No release date mentioned or whether she would be done by Spring or whatever. It still baffles my mind that she released “Commander” when the album was no where near complete, or maybe of its lack of success, they decided to change the initial sound. I hate to say this, but if she doesn’t release her album before Beyonce she has no hope, because the media and the stans will pit them against each other and Kelly has no one to blame this time around.

I think there may still be hope for her if she releases before Beyonce and has an international hit on par with WLTO. For whatever reason, Commander didn’t smash the way it should have, and that has been her most successful single from this would be era, thus far. So, I don’t know where she’s going to dig up another hit.
Kelly needs to stop playing and release, Kim Kardashian is gonna release an album before she does.

I will definitely support Kelly when her album comes out but I don’t know what to think at this point. I really thought “Commander” was the best song she has ever released and we all know what happened with that. Then she recruited the same batch of producers that work on every other R&B artists’ albums. I was hoping that she would stick with the heavy dance sound that David Guetta created for her, but we’ll see.

Okay, can the Kelly stans please just keep an open mind. I love Kelly to death, she has really grown into such a beautiful, classy, and talented woman, but I am fed up with her and her damn push backs and excuses! No one is interested in her anymore! Her label sucks ass! They had a nice buzz last summer and didn’t take advantage of it! What a stupid move? It seems like no matter how hard she tries, faith doesn’t want her to succeed and that’s sad considering she is more talented than 90% of the females who are so called singers.
It pisses me off because I, and the rest of her fans, were rooting for her and waited patiently. Her label and management messed up on “Commander.” It got a good buzz, but they thought that since it was more electronic than pop, only the overseas audience would accept and that was so not true. So many US people wanted it to be released. It even debuted at Number 1 on the US Dance Charts. Then when the video came out, she got so many people comparing her single to Gaga’s singles and her video reached damn near 20,000,000 views on youtube! She was promoting it overseas and blogs were talking about her, but then she took a wrong turn and released “Rose Colored Glasses” and “Grown Ass Woman” as singles, which are too mellow and not IN at the moment singles, and the hype died down quickly.
Point blank, she and her crew over thought everything and messed up. That’s why “Forever In a Day” flopped hard as hell. It was an amazing, international, and beautiful single but people were fed up with her and didn’t even care about it.
Kelly you’re about to be 30 and haven’t had a mega successful music career… it’s over! You let Beyonce take all the shine and made her stans believe that she’s some goddess and was the only reason why DC succeeded. If I was you, I would be furious and jealous and made sure to get out of her damn shadow.

The general public just aren’t interested in her, and while some people think the push backs are because Kelly wants to make sure she creates a great album…UTTER CRAP.
Kelly has no solid fan base, and no one is sure what she stands in music. I also agree with those that say she isn’t thirsty enough for success. She just doesn’t have that star quality, and it seems to me that she doesn’t care much.

Hmm…I’m with everyone else. I think we all understand that she needs to have this record and the timing perfect to the T. But when Commander was released, it created such a freaking buzz that for a second, it was almost as if people forgot she was apart of Destiny’s Child and more importantly, her relationship to the Knowleses…
If they hadn’t crafted the “perfect” album them, I doubt they’re crafting one now. Before releasing a single such as Commander, they shouldve BEEN had their s*** together…the perfect album, the perfect followup single. Kelly and her team REALLY dropped the ball. I can’t believe she came out with Commander, released a couple of singles later, then decided with her label that her album was just NOT that great afterall..then rerecord the whole damn thing. And coming to think about it…the timing WAS perfect. At that time no one was doing the heayy pop dance music,there were no BIG releases to rival hers and now that EVERYONE is doing it…its like she HAS to recreate her sound again bc the dance, pop trend is soon to fade. What she shouldve did, is not let people see her seams. After realizing her album wasnt the way she liked it, she shouldve just put out a freaking mixtape and left it as a freaking teaser instead of dragging her fans along. And while that mixtape was out, she shouldve went everywhere and performed in and out..opening as an act for big as tours (maybe gaga)..But instead…In a few months, no one is going to care about songs like Commander. By the time she gets her stuff together her sound will fade. And its not like if she puts out the sound she wants to (electro, techno pop) that shes going to have as much as a buzz bc now it looks like she’s just riding along the bandwagon. If Rihanna’s Loud album can be the worst album of all time and still do phenomenally well, Kelly couldve fully rocked Commander with a mediocre album as well if the label was really behind her.

As much as I hate to say this, I have to. HAVEN’T WE BEEN HERE BEFORE? Isn’t this the same thing she did and said regarding her sophomore album Ms. Kelly? She recorded the entire album; set a release date, songs leaked all over the net, then she shelved the project and went back into the studio to “redraft” what would be the “perfect album”. The only difference is this time she actually released singles from what appears to be another shelved project. Do we even know that any of her previously recorded/released material (“Commander”, “Rose Colored Glasses”, :”Grown Woman” and “Forever and a Day”) all great songs by the way, will still be featured on this new “perfect”, “unlimited” album. Not to mention all of the HOT songs that were leaked (Shake Them Haters Off, On&On, Each Other, etc.). She had so much material. GOOD material that was actually signature for her. I really don’t want jewels like On&On and “Forever and a Day” replaced with typical, trend heavy predictables like Hangover and I’m That Chick. I know people like those songs but really, “they tell me I’m so fly, I’m so fly, I’m so fly”; not exactly a lyrical masterpiece.
I’m not saying she can’t or shouldn’t have these songs on the album, I’m saying don’t replace what’s actually good and timeless for that which is mediocre and trendy. If she did that she’d be like every other artist(and I use that term loosely) that’s out right now, and Kelly is better than that. Songs like I’m That Chick may be what she needs to get a hit stateside (Sad, I know) but those songs do not and should not define her as an artist. Kelly is versatile and a vocal force to be reckoned with. That is what the “perfect” album would/should show case.
I just don’t want Kelly to fall for the okey doke. No Ms. Kelly mishaps this go round. Home girl can’t afford another.
Note: It would behoove her to make this project a double-discs set. Shell out the extra cash. As long as your supporters have been waiting, they deserve more than a measly 11-12 songs. She’d better find a way to make this album worth the wait and the money. REAL TALK.

Answer: Alesha Dixon. Who bought Sabrina Washington’s single? Anyone? And yet Sabrina did almost all the singing in Mis-Teeq – far more than Beyoncé did in Destiny’s Child (which actually began to balance the leads more after Michelle joined).
