Lady GaGa’s ‘Born This Way’ Shatters Britney Spears’ Record With Massive Debut

Published: Wednesday 16th Feb 2011 by Trent

It looks like Britney Spears’ position as Princess of Pop is in jeopardy. Lady GaGa has bested the long-time chart titan’s recently set sales and airplay records by a massive margin, replacing Spears’ name in the history books.

After just 3 days, GaGa’s ‘Born This Way’ has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with an awe-inspiring 448k downloads, making giving it the 1st-week highest digital sales by a female artist in history (3rd highest overall). Claiming the title as the chart’s 1000th #1 single, the track also scored the largest premiere-week airplay figures with an audience of 78.5 million listeners.

The success of ‘Born This Way’ eclipses the achievements of Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ which debuted at #1 4 weeks ago by selling 411k in digital downloads and 45 million audience impressions. ‘Born…’ even entered at #14 on the Pop Songs lineup, positioning it as the 2nd highest debut by a song on the chart in history.

Nevertheless, despite GaGa’s massive accomplishment, she was unable to outshine Mariah Carey’s 18-year record on the Pop chart. Music’s best-selling songbird maintains her record for having the highest debut on the Pop Songs tally with ‘Dreamlover’ which entered at #12 in 1993. No gimmicks needed.

  3. GagaIsLove February 16, 2011

( I know Trent would have felt the need to brag about Mariah Carey lolol <3)

  4. matt February 16, 2011

F***** yess, and you forgot to state it took only three days, what would have happened if it was a full 7 days sales, she would have destroyed that record 😉

  5. Nichole February 16, 2011

Congrats, GaGa! BTW has really grown on me since watching her slay during her Grammy performance.

  6. ty February 16, 2011

lol, you kill me. her position as pop princess is in jeopardy?! when gagme has 5 #1 albums that have sold almost 100M then come talk to me about brit brit’s position being in jeopardy. until then, go kick rocks! 😉

  7. B@tch Please February 16, 2011

We did it Navy another top 10 hit. FLOP MY ASS.

    Back to GaGa. Congrats.

  8. prince barbie February 16, 2011

I came in here thinking she actually shattered brits record a few thousand ch…good for her it was over hyped but it has grown on me and it is a good dance track but very over hyped.

  9. BubblePopElectric February 16, 2011

    Congrats Gaga & Britney
    For Reinvigorating The Pop Scene.
Both Ladies Are Blowing The Music Industry To Pieces.

Now Bring On The 2nd Singles! =)

Well, I’m no hater …congrats Gaga! I don’t care for the song at all – but I see her fans came out strong to suport her.

Nice to see that Mimi is still holding on to her record (yes, Trent with no gimmicks!)… Life is good!

I NEED YOU SO DESPERATELY, WON’T YOU PLEASE COME AROUND ‘CAUSE I WANNA SHARE FOREVER WITH YOU BAYYY BEEE!

  12. Royalkev February 16, 2011

Also … Brit’s position is very much in tact. There definitely a lot more to prove as far as Gaga’s concerned. Sorry, but on my score card it’s even: Gaga:1(sales) , Britney:1(better song)! It’s all about the finish line, not where you start!

  13. jeremydante February 16, 2011

i thought you were gonna say it sold 500K, in clicking the link to the article i thought you meant that it was truly shattered- all she did was move past the previously set record.

  14. Ariana February 16, 2011

    Yasssss @ Mimi!!! 😀

Congrats to Gaga, not big fan of the song but you got to give props where props are due. It’s going to be interesting to see the second week’s sales. Will it go up or down? We shall see.

  15. MissImpartial February 16, 2011

Shatters? How dramatic!! Should you not be saying Madonna and Gaga have achieved all these Numbers together as the song is a complete rip off!! LOL

Gaga sold 448K and Britney sold 411 the difference being only 37,000. Seriously is not like she sold a million or 500K more.

But I do have to say that considering the track is bad that so many people bought it.
I like Brit but I would never buy a song of hers if I did not like it. The same goes for other artist. Why spend you heard earned money on rubbish songs.

What do you mean she has the highest digital sales but then you say she is 3rd overall??

    Someone please explain??

  16. Artisan February 16, 2011

Wow. That’s effn amazing! Congrats Gaga!!1

  17. Nichole February 16, 2011

@ MissImpartial. GaGa holds the record for the highest digital sales for a female, but the biggest is held by FloRida. And, yes. She shattered Britney’s radio airplay, but compared to Brit, GaGa had MASSIVE PROMO. If HIAM received the same treatment, it would have performed the same way.

  18. Royalkev February 16, 2011

@ Missimpartial, I think it’s not ranking higher than cd singles where people brought the actually dics(physical copy). I am confused a little too, because it’s only digital sales mentioned.

  19. Ethan February 16, 2011

This world might just be at it’s end..i do not like gaga at all (still congrats to her, she’s a f***** legend already) but what i’ve seen the past week was insane, she was everywhere and the song is just mediocre..f*** this s*** lol

  20. MissImpartial February 16, 2011

    @NICHOLE

Not to mention for six months her and her team were saying that this song is going to be the song of the decade.

Anyways I also thought that Britney should have used the Brit Awards to promote the Single and Album as she did not perform on the Grammys. I don’t know why they did not consider for her to perform. I don’t know they keep saying there is going to be promo but I do not count the Twitter Q&A as promotion.

  21. KristoPhro February 16, 2011

What is wrong with people now a days. She uses Autotune!!! The song SUCKS!!!!

  22. KYLE February 16, 2011

TRENT U H** LADY GARBAGE IS NOWHERE NEAR BRITNEYS LEVEL.

EVERYONE GET READY FOR TMRW!!!!! U ALL KNOW WHATS HAPPENING.

  23. Royalkev February 16, 2011

@ Ethan & Kristophro, I am just as puzzled as you and feel the exact same way!
I’m not going to rain on anyone’s parade, but music is so sad these days! It’s tragic and you really could feel like your in the twilight zone, when you talk to people that buy into this… but to each their own.

  24. LAMB 4 LIFE February 16, 2011

    NOT IMPRESSED

I’VE EVEN EXPECTED IT, because this b**** is SOOO OVER-hyping her record and now with the Grammy performance and with even more interviews

    that’s a MASSIVE promo

    Anyway, QUEEN MARIAH IS UNBEATABLE

    MARIAH CAREY >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> EVERYONE ELSE

  25. eh February 16, 2011

She did smash britney’s record because Born this way was only out for 3 days imagine if it were out for a week like hiam was.
But you forgot to mention that she is the first person to top itunes in all 23 countries its avaliable in, at the same time. And that it reached #1 in the US in a little over 3 hours making it the fastest ever climb to itunes #1.
I didnt like the song at first but it grew on me. But Gaga surpassed britneys numbers in three days so that is a huge accomplishment

  26. u-jealoous February 16, 2011

Can’t wait for Britneys new Video tomorrow. They cheated with gaga airplay cause ppl not request, the dj just play it anyway every hour .that’s f***** up so she get #1 thru one-sided favortism=cheating.Let the ppl decide, not the radio dj.

  27. MissImpartial February 16, 2011

    @ROYALKEV

I think the that ITunes has somehow destroyed the music scene and that is why some artist are called single artist.

It does not leave any chance to other artist who are more talented and only the mainstream artist are selling well.

    I don’t know maybe it’s just me.

  28. FOX February 16, 2011

WHY is everyone making this into a Lady Gaga Vs. Britney Spears!!??!?

–You don’t see Madonna & Kylie Minogue fans fighting. It shows you how IMMATURE some of y’all really are. SAD… two women can’t be successful in the (male dominated) industry without being pitted against each other.

  29. BORN THIS WAY EQUALS EXPRESS YOURSELF February 16, 2011

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAH! BORN THIS WAY ONLY SMASHED HIAM RECORD BECAUSE RADIO WAS ON “GAGA MODE” IN OTHER WORDS THEY GAVE HER SPECIAL TREATMENT THANKS TO HER LABEL AND SHE ONLY TOP BRITNEY BY SOME THOUSANDS. YOU WOULD THINK WITH ALL OF THAT HUUUUUUUUGE PROMO GAGA WOULD HAVE GOT AT LEAST 500K OR GOT CLOSED TO TYING THE #1 DIGITAL RECORD!

LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE BRITNEY FANS, HIAM WAS ABLE TO DO MAJOR THINGS AND WAS BARELY PROMOTED. THERE WAS NO TALK SHOWS, AWARD SHOWS, MAGAZINES AND RADIO INTERVIEWS UNLIKE GAGA. SHE WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH WHAT BRITNEY DID WITHOUT PROMO.

A FEW TWEETS AND INFORMATION FROM BRIT’S MANAGEMENT HARDLY COUNTS TOWARDS PROMOTION. AT LEAST NOT THE KIND OF PROMO THAT GAGA IS DOING.

  30. NattyHeron February 16, 2011

CONGRATS GAGA! I’m not a huge fan of hers, but congrats/props to her fans/stans for showing lots of love and support! The song is growing on me, but I can’t get over the fact that it sounds identical to Madonna’s express yourself and GAGA tried to give credit to Whitney Houston for the songs inspiration??? #bitchplease but anywho…Im looking forward to the video.

Side-note: I need this BRITNEY video to be released ASAP! and then a 2nd single right around the corner!…..

PS : Britney will forever be the Princess of Pop and Madonna the Queen!

  31. Matty February 16, 2011

Remember this over just three days, 700k I’m saying, if it had a full weeks sales. Haters bye bye!!

  32. jj February 16, 2011

why compare gaga to britney? its so unfair since britney still didnt promote her song. since january 1 2011 no britney on tv, radio or magazines till now

  33. CRAMPED February 16, 2011

Hate on her all u want but gaga is a Boss and a talented one too.

  34. Royalkev February 16, 2011

@MissImpartial, that’s very true! I always respected people that sell albums. I personally don’t like anyone because of their sales, but I just feel that it’s something more substantial when you have more people interested in your entire body of work oppose to a single here and there. Gaga, does well both ways. I really can’t accuse her of only doing 1 thing, but I think what’s really manipulating the public is radio. It’s no longer about what you request. You can ask for Xtina, Ciara, etc all day long – but the programmers are only backing Gaga and people that they are willing to promote. There are some artist that become break – out stars with having anyone requesting them before their established and their on heavy rotation. Gaga’s bizarreness was forced on the public – and you were going to like her 1 way or the other.

So many outlets like Youtube, help push these artist. It’s like as soon as some people see the view count at 10 million, it automatically means that this songs is hot! So, they try to like it and it sends a message that this artist is huge which = good! I don’t trust stats anymore! It’s ridiculous!

    GAGA IS SLAYING YOUR FAVS!!!!!!

JUST WAIT UNTIL HER ALBUM DROPS!!! SHE’S GOING TO BE OWNING RADIOS EVERY F****** MONTH!!!!!! SHE CAN DROP “JUDAS” RIGHT NOW AND GO OVERKILL ON EVERYONE!

  37. RONALDMATTERS.COM February 16, 2011

YEEESSS @ making Mariah Carey relevant at the end!

  38. Britney GaGa February 16, 2011

    Congrats to GaGa.
All this comparing is stupid GaGa is the new superstar on the block so she is bound to sell more than Britney right now. She is where Britney was 2 years into her career if you remember back in 2000 Britney was smashing records and outselling even Madonna. Her 2nd album Opps…I Did It Again sold a million units in it’s opening week!!!
Britney is a Pop Superstar/Icon but now it is GaGa’s time. Britney will continue to sell million of records and excite her fans as she has done for last decade. GaGa has even mentioned Britney as being her idol and someone she respects.
The main question is will GaGa still be around in a decade…. only time will tell 🙂

  39. Jann89 February 16, 2011

I think people are missing the point. The song wasn’t over-hyped, granted its not the most amazing song, it takes a strong stance against homophobia, racism and anti-gay legislation. The fact that it is selling so fast shows that people are moving towards a change for the better.

  40. JJFAN1814 February 16, 2011

The arrival of “Born This Way” bests the previous debut record on Radio Songs, set when Janet Jackson’s “All for You” soared in at No. 9 with 70 million in 2001.

    Good job Gaga!! 🙂

  41. Christian February 16, 2011

@ FOX – I agree with you 100% The media & fans are making this out as a competition which there shouldn’t be one. And like I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, regardless of who sells more than who, both Britney & Gaga are gonna have a successful year. And that’s a FACT!!!

  42. ThatMigrator February 16, 2011

Dreamlover >>> HIAM & BTW combined

“MIMI, COME AND TAKE ME AWAAAAAAY!”

  43. JJFAN1814 February 16, 2011

    ^Dreamlover can stay in it’s 1990s era. 😉

  44. alf February 17, 2011

Maybe if it gets enough air time to make me sick of it, I might learn to tolerate “born this way”. Right now , I don’t like it, and I don’t understand why so many people are impressed with it.

  45. Rene February 17, 2011

Congrats to gaga! Thats amazing for just 3 days. Britneys figures were for 7 days right? Oh well I love them BOTH. Can not believe some of you immature people who make fake feuds and refuse to like more than one artist. Im hoping Britney and Gaga collab one day. That would be a hot song. BTW is really growing on me but I still don’t love it. I think what bugs me is the slow intro and slow ending. I like the chorus. Its stuck in my head today but the other parts of the song aren’t so great. Idk im waiting for her video more than britneys though

  46. MrIncredible February 17, 2011

This goes to show that the charts are a s*** show. The song really isn’t deserving of these accomplishments AT ALL. But to Britney’s credit, Gaga did just perform on the Grammys.

  47. JJFAN1814 February 17, 2011

    @MRINCREDIBLE

So How did the Grammys increase the airplay//sales when it was performed on the night that the Billboard sales chart ended.

    #Fail

  48. MISHKA February 17, 2011

    What can I say? Impressive.

  49. ummm February 17, 2011

LadyGaGa is in her PRIME. That doesn’t mean Briteny Spears spot is in jeopardy!
Briteny in her prime >>>>> GaGa in her prime.

Gaga haven’t sold as much as Brit nor has the longevity Brit has. If GaGa took a long break couple years from now I doubt she can make a comeback like Brit #FACT

Lets not be too quick to give out titles, let these artist prove themselves to us…..

  50. Timago February 17, 2011

  51. Sugarwalls February 17, 2011

    very well said!

  52. Little kimberly DAMNIT! February 17, 2011

Are you crazy? Lady gaga will never replace anybody. Britney doesn’t have to work anymore. I dare you to look up the list of best selling albums IN THE WORLD, EVER….. You won’t find any lady gaga therefore until she can accomplish that, which I really doubt, she will never replace britney name ANYWHERE.

  53. Rihgoat taught me how to deep-throat a banana February 17, 2011

NO ONE IS ON TOP OF GAGA RIGHT NOW

    THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!

  54. Mari February 17, 2011

Congrats Gaga, but Britney’s spot is hardly in jeopardy. I just hope Britney does lots of live performances and promo for this album so she can remind everyone that’s she’s still got it.

  55. Realtalk 101 February 17, 2011

Are the numbers real or manipulated? If they are real it just shows how retarded people are. There’s nothing great, original or classic about what GaGa does. If this is what people consider great then the world has truly gone tone death and blind and we’re in big trouble.

  56. Kenny February 17, 2011

No one is talking about how great the song is or how inspired they are, its all about numbers and making someone out to be more than others. Im tired of music now, the same people are pushing the same agenda and causing us to be in an uproar about them. We are being used to fight each other over celebs who are being controlled also by other powers that be. Its not hard for certain artist to garner #1 because its easy to fudge numbers, ask Bush! None of them are doing anything new or even amazing but we praise them like they are saving lives.

  57. Kenny February 17, 2011

    @Real Talk

I wish I would have read your comment first.
You are so right, all these numbers are fabricated. The consumers are brainwashed and braindead humans who are being controlled by celebs and their every move. We no longer think for ourselves, we think like the masses and thats a huge problem… we are zombies.

  58. janhovaswitnessforlife February 17, 2011

    Poor S******! She’s DONE.

  59. JJFAN1814 February 17, 2011

Yall are talking about album sales. You could sell millions in the 90s and early 00s….Yall know it’s f****** hard to sell these days! For Gaga to sell 10 million with her first album, and around 5 million for the Fame Monster EP is a F****** accomplishment in today’s music industry. Something some of your favs can never do these days.

  60. 2bad2bme February 17, 2011

  64. Jer February 17, 2011

  65. QueenofPopJanet February 17, 2011

  66. Nichole February 17, 2011

@ QUEENOFPOPJANET. You want an urban blog, go to ConcreteLoop.

  67. Royalkev February 17, 2011

@ Kenny & Real Talk101 – Amen! You hit it right on the nail. To some people numbers are all that count! There was alot of people saying this song sucked in the beginning and it’s funny how once the first week(3 day) sales came in, the song suddenly started sounding better. The comments are a little different and half the people are trying to fall in love with it. This is why people manipulate numbers! It works!!! I hate when people don’t give an artist a chance until it seems like their successful, then the same type of music they were making before all of a sudden gets noticed. If this song can sound excatly like Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and that fact just be swept under a rug, it’s no hope. I really think it’s going to go downhill from here, if music continues on in this state.

WHY IS ALL THE PREDICTIONS I MADE FOR BEYONCE LIKE IN NOVEMBER HAPPENING TO LADY GAGA.

I PREDICTED THAT BEYONCE WOULD DEBUT A SINGLE BEFORE THE GRAMMYS AND PERFORM AT THE GRAMMYS. LADY GAGA DID THAT.

AND HAD ALSO SADI HER FIRST SINGLE WOULD DEBUT WITH HIGH NUMBERS 400K OR HIGHER. AND LADY GAGA HAS DONE THAT. IM IRRITATED. UGH.

    CONGRATS ANYWAYS…

  69. Dahlia February 17, 2011

  70. WHITEJESUS February 17, 2011

i expected more for some reason.

  71. mika February 17, 2011

Dead at the delusional britney stans making every excuses. Are u blaming gaga for doin promo? Is it her fault if britney is lazy? She works hard n thats it. She deserved it. And britney can’t sing why would people care 4 her? Im curious to know what beyonce is doin. I want me some beyonce as well. But no britney. Bye girl u have no talent

  72. AB February 17, 2011

LOL @ shatters I was expecting a little more than what was said. Nonetheless GaGa has performed her single at the most popular musical event in the world, it’s no suprise she sold more. If Britney did the same I have a feeling she would’ve outsold. I like both songs and artists, but Hold It Against Me is a LOT better. Can’t wait for the video premiere tomorrow!

  73. Yellow Gorillah February 17, 2011

I’m sorry I don’t care how much this song sold

    THE SONG IS S***!

This is how I know people on this blog only care about Number’s. People have the nerve to be talking about talent and musicality and your HYping up this s***** song I’m just done with yall

And I see how some people here Nooow all of the sudden saying the song has grown on them Pshh B**** please *Side Eye* yall stanning for number yall all know this song rubbish.

This generation of Music is WEAK!

    Britney Pop Princess
    Madonna Queen of POP!

  74. Yellow Gorillah February 17, 2011

But I will give her credit

    Congrats to Gaga

She works hard for what she does so I can’t hate

  75. Hey Nicki !! Hey Nicki !!……Platinum February 17, 2011

Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade but Lady gaga was played every hour on the hour at every radio station around the US for the whole weekend. DJ’s were forced to play the song and listeners of the stations were complaining about it. She over hyped everything about this album. So this is expected.

    #IJS

  76. RosaRubbel February 17, 2011

Congrats GaGa! I also respect Mimi for holding her record! Show them how it’s done, Mariah!

    @ MissImpartial

    Very well said!

  77. GET METHROUGH February 17, 2011

I dislike the song as much as the next person but to say HIAM is better than this is just completely ridiculous. HIAM is a generic piece of trash. At least BTW has a meaning to it.

    Anyways,

    ROUND IV.

    You Ready?

  78. JohnVidal February 17, 2011

I´ll make some points cos some people seem to stay retarded:

    – I LOVE that Mariah Carey owns everybody else´s numbers. Real talent without gimmicks needed. That´s how it used to be.
    – Gaga is the most famous and successful music star since 2009. No doubt about it. I´ve never seen this hype around the world for any of Beyonce or Britney´s new albums (I´ve seen it maybe for some of the MJ, Mariah and Whitney new releases years ago though)
    – Britney got slayed cos the sales of BTW are only in 3 days. And that was before the grammys performance. I wish people could learn to read. Just learn, it´s good for the brain.
    – Britney fans (ridiculous that she has fans) can stop making excuses. The one that she didn´t do promo is too old. I´ll tell u why she didn´t : cos she can´t perform in front of a huge and critical audience without being ridiculous. Not that she ever sang live at any point of her career but at least some years ago she danced. Seriously, only Paris Hilton has less talent than Britney. Rihanna is near her level too…
    – I wish Gaga would have achieved this hot100 #1 with a better song. At least a song like Bad romance or Paparazzi cos BTW is a little dissapointment, but congrats anyway
    – Now do you have any questions???

  79. lostonez February 17, 2011

I’m a Gaga fan and i really don’t like the songs like her previous singles..but i must say congrats 2 gaga 4 selling so much records in only 3 days…the woman works hard n this 2 show u that hardwork does pay off

  80. Badd February 17, 2011

    Only Gaga !!!!!!!.
    No gimmicks needed…..stfu Trent.
Gaga is talented…& has had all of this success

at the Grammy’s with her singing.

If GaGa had a FULL week and released the song on a Monday..she would’ve wiped the floor with Mariah’s record. Her song was only out for 3 days and debuted at #14 on Pop Radio, if she had one extra day she would’ve slayed Mariah without blinking an eye.

  85. SMH February 17, 2011

Now if only sales/downloads and radio spins equaled quality.

Britney Spears will always be the Princess of Pop! I really admire her. No one, and I mean No One can tell me that they have ever heard Britney talk about or BASH another artist in an interview, a mag, or in public. Every time she is asked about another artist she always says something nice and positive with a great attitude, which shows professionalism. The opposite can be said of gaga, kesha, rhianna, etc. Every Time they do an interview, even if they are not asked they speak negatively and put down others due to their own insecurities. As far as all the HATERS, and gaga crowd is concerned, YOU ALL MAKE YOURSELF SOUND IGNORANT WITH THE STUFF YOU TRY TO SAY! BRINTEY has really gotten into shape and is more beautiful than ever, yet you are still calling her fat and say that she is ugly. Even though it’s not true and you know it to not be true, this just goes to show that you are all just jealous and just a bunch of haters! It’s funny that a lot of you say these things while hiding behind your computers. I dare you the next time you post another piece of your ignorant trash to include a full body shot of yourselves along with it! The MAJORITY, IF NOT ALL OF YOU WOULD NEVER DO IT BECAUSE WE BOTH KNOW THAT YOU ARE FAT AND UGLY YOURSELVES! IT’S BRITNEY B******! #1 FOREVER!

  87. BRANDY 4VEVER February 17, 2011

Trent who gives a f*** about Mariah Carey but u?? Every time u post something it has to be about mariah Carey.. Mariah Carey this Mariah Carey that WHO CARES ANYMORE!?? he achievements are wayyy in the past! STFU about Mariah and stop riding her damn d***!

I had a feeling Lady gaga was going to Outshine Brit.. But as always who’s gonna have the highest Album debut and sales?? we all know Brit will cause its Britney of course. I like both BTW & HIAM. Now we wait for Queen #3….

    @badd
Thank you! Some People are really retarded

    @chan
And your point is? Do you want me to make a list of Mariah numbers owning all your favorites? I suppose not. You already know it

    @BRANDY 4VEVER
Dead at you saying Mariah is the past when your name refers to Brandy. Are you jelous of Mariah´s monstrous career? And even if Mariah was totally past… learn to respect legends who are way way and way better than most puppets in the industry. Barbra Streisand is beyond the past but WTF has it to do with the fact she is a legend like only a few more are and your silly self should respect her and search for her on youtube to see how is it like singing like a goddess?

  90. BRANDY 4VEVER February 17, 2011

@JohnVidal i know who Barbra Streisand is. And Mariah Achievement are way in the past. Im not saying im not proud of her or i dont like her. I respect MIMI and her work but damn TRENT will make you not like her… Every post he puts up has to have somethin about Mariah Carey… Let her be

  91. Mika February 17, 2011

people can give britney all the titles they want. from princess to queen. from dutchess to godess. whatever. truth is. when we talk about talent, gaga has proved that she was way more talented than her. when i watch gaga’s interviews, i feel, i can see that she’s really involved in her career. about the productions, lyrics, choreagraphy, design, etc but when i listen to britney interviews, im like what’s this? i aint even sure she has a clue who writes all her songs.
so LOL at her stans who are praising her for reaching n°1 without movin 1 finger. u only provin people how much of a lazy chick she is. im proud to say gaga worked hard every f***** day to get what she wants. and im one of those people who requested BTW like a muthafuckin monster because she deserves it.

  92. GangsterA February 17, 2011

oh please the song is the ultimate trash shity wack ass song beside her delusional monsters who likes this song i know each of them at least bought it 20 times i’m hoping the rest of the album sounds better but i don’t think so with songs like ”Hair” and ”Bad Kids” HIAM>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BTW

  93. KASEY JR. February 17, 2011

Ok I’m SO DONE with this site now.

I mean Trent you are a f****** stick up the ass, ghetto snobbish c*** and you just make me sick. You DISGUST me! Like seriously, I came here just to check if Lady Gaga’s song went number one cause I knew it would be up here. But seriously….why would bring Mariah F****** Carey up to start another stan war.

    P.S
    I hope you get fired.

  94. True Blue February 17, 2011

Well, I hate this song, but I’m glad she’s shattering records, ESPECIALLY Britney’s records. The ONLY thing Britney stans have as ammo is slowly being taken away from them.

Congrats to Gaga for putting delusional stans Kyle on s****** watch!

  95. True Blue February 17, 2011

    * delusional stans LIKE Kyle.

  96. Hassan February 17, 2011

  99. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ February 17, 2011

    @Yellow Gorrilah

“This is how I know people on this blog only care about Number’s. People have the nerve to be talking about talent and musicality and your HYping up this s***** song I’m just done with yall”

WTF? And you don’t care about numbers? If this were one of your faves breaking a record set by Gaga or someone else you would be basking in their success as well. Just because you think the song is s***** (which it is) doesn’t mean that all of sudden people only care about numbers. It’s the same exact way when it comes to your faves (Rihanna and Britney, in particular).

And then for you to call BTW a s***** song when HIAM is even SHITTIER! What’s so talent-worthy or musically-inclined about that song? It’s just as bad if not WORSE than the other BS on the radio (electro-pop).

  100. queenbeeandqueengaga February 17, 2011

GO GAGA <3 ! the song isn't that musically great compared to her early "the fame" era , but it is cool song ! it has meaning ! i love them both brit and gaga ! why comparing artists , its like comparing apples to oranges !!! and keep mariah off here ! she dont belong to this decade !! she's a legend and i like her and have all of her albums and all but uhhhh ! its 2011 !!!!!!!!!

  101. I’LL FEDEX BEEF TO YOUR FRONT DOOR February 17, 2011

THIS SONG STEALING B**** HAS NOTHING ON BRITNEY!

LETS PUT THIS IN PERSPECTIVE SHALL WE?

BRITNEY DIDN’T HAVE TO HATCH FROM A DAMN EGG, LOOKING LIKE A CREEPY ALIEN, AND PRANCING AROUND WITH GAY MEN IN DRAG (*cough* FAKE ASS MADONNA WANNA BE), TO SELL A SONG!

BRITNEY JUST SAID READY, SET, GO AND THE DAMN SONG SOLD!

HAS BRITNEY EVEN DONE AN INTERVIEW?

    #SIT

    PRINCESS OF POP BRITNEY IS

  102. Tiburones5 the B**** February 17, 2011

    Hey

  103. Badd February 17, 2011

@ I’ll Fedex Beef To Your Front Door

Actually Gaga did the same….she didn’t “pop out of an egg until
her Grammy performance” which was AFTER Billboard was
counting sales and airplay impressions for the week
of Feb. 26 Billboard singles…so she did the same as Brit..
all she did was drop a single let it sell & get played for only
THREE days (not to compare but Brit had a week)
    & she completely SLAYEDD.
    #YOUFAIL.

  104. Miguel February 17, 2011

All of that silly dramatic nonsense that you givemTrent is just ugly and not worth reading. Next time I’ll just continue to skip to the info.

As for Lady Gaga, congratulations! I LOVE the single, I will definitely be buying the album, and I hope this music video can surpass Telephone…

  105. Roger February 17, 2011

To compare Gaga to Britney is just stating the fact that Britney is still relevant and the person to beat. If she isn’t, then why even compare Gaga to her? Second, HIAM was never promoted the way BTW was. Britney’s song was played according to people calling in, while Gaga’s song was already programmed to play every hour. There’s a difference when people want to listen to a song rather than just being played for the hype of it. Third, fans bought the Gaga song on iTunes without even listening to the song, and some even bought it several times. Trust me, I received 3 gifts from friends (I even think that iTunes should send an email to sender that the recipient has been gifted the same song already). Fourth, there is no denial that HIAM is a much better song than BTW, according to both ladies’ fans and critics. Fifth, Gaga has to be grateful that Britney did not perform during the Grammys because her performance was a lackluster. I’m not the only one saying that. Critics and viewers are with me, except the little monsters. Sixth, no matter how big Gaga is right now, she can never erase the fact that Britney still has millions of followers that have been loyal to her since day 1. She may be more popular now, but Britney has withstood time. So, why 6 reasons? Because that’s how many albums Gaga still has to debut at #1 because she can really say that she’s bigger than Britney. With 13 million copies sold for both her albums for over 2 years, that’s nothing compared to a 13X Platinum that HMBOMT sold. And if you really want to argue that it’s because people are stealing now, then little monsters are just not as loyal to their mother monster then. Gaga may be the queen now, but she’ll never be The Queen. Madonna is nowhere to be seen because she’s outraged right now, and it’s not ladylike to be calling Gaga a thief. I don’t doubt she’s artistic, but it seems that all her tricks under her sleeve ran out after doing The Fame Monster.

  106. Elmo February 17, 2011

@Roger, that’s 13X platinum in the US alone, wheres The Fame and The Fame Monsters sales are 13 millions worldwide. I downloaded both albums and listened to them. And then I went back listening to Blackout. Heheh.

  107. Happy February 17, 2011

It’s either I’m getting old, or my taste in music is not in line with our generation now. I’m only 29, and just two days ago, I just started listening to the 80’s and 90’s songs. I just can’t stomach what’s being played all over the radio now.

  108. jess February 17, 2011

Born This Way debuted at #1,…HIAM still at #10.
Guess what?…without promotion at ALLLLL…HIAM still in the Top 10 for 5 weeks.
    Don’t you think it’s impressive?
    LOL

  109. irene46 February 18, 2011

let’s face it! britney is a former “t*** queen” britney’s record sales have been just so-so since adulthood. you can’t truly go from being ‘t*** queen’ to the ‘queen of pop’ title without still having the major sales to back it up. i don’t believe the 100 million sold hype because the numbers don’t seem to add up.

beyonce’s been around for years and is trampling britney’s current record sells. after christina released ‘stripped’ she was consistently outselling her until her ‘bionic’ disaster. and she did it even while fighting the ‘hate christina campaign’). there’s other female artists who have been relevant for 10 years and they outsell britney but don’t get hyped (pink for one). britney had been dethroned way before lgg.

don’t forget lgg’s crushing sales were made in THREE DAYS, not a week! haven’t heard the weekly sales yet.

someone asked if 5 weeks in the top ten is impressive. NO! not for an alledged ‘queen’!!

some of you may think hiam is a better song than btw. my opinion is NOT BY A LONG SHOT! britney’s dull dragging voice tone in the opening is…gag! the lyrics are lame beyond words and the song’s arrangement and delivery is just horrid overall.

britney’s opening sales are record breaking due to hype and then fall like a rock. that’s the only reason gaga’s compared to her. the media has already dropped focus on ‘taylor swift’s’ million album sales in a week and she did it during a mean lean economy and the age of illegal downloading. the same can be said for gaga selling 15 million sales of ‘fame’. britney’s sales were during times of prosperity. so back off!

  110. Lord February 18, 2011

Mimi is still the queen. <3

  111. ERIC April 11, 2011

“It looks like Britney Spears’ position as Princess of Pop is in jeopardy. Lady GaGa has bested the long-time chart titan’s recently set sales and airplay records by a massive margin, replacing Spears’ name in the history books.” LOL

    Trent deserves a Pulitzer!

  112. robert Darling June 17, 2011

My Queen Gaga is the absolute queen of all music she is a legend that can not be compared too i listen to her music and message every day long live queen Gaga.

  113. robert Darling June 17, 2011

To add to my former post i enjoy listening to Britney Spears but compared to Gaga their is no contest, Gaga sings about equality, Britney sings about teenage love. Get with the times Gaga is the representative of all the gay commuinaty and long may she raign.
P.S. i’m listening to Gaga’s album’ Born this way’ now, need i say more.
