With the release of her ‘Femme Fatale’ LP but weeks away, Britney Spears has finally hit the promotional trail in support of the project – with her most recent stop being Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show. The megastar chatted it up with the American Idol host this morning about the album, her forthcoming ‘Good Morning America’ performance, and surprisingly her longtime boyfriend Jason Trawick – a topic she is usually coy about.

It’s great to see Britney ‘with it’ and somewhat excited about the project. One can only hope the same radiance translates into solid live performances. And if it sounds like we’re beating a dead horse with the ‘live performance’ talk, it’s only because she has been performing like one for the last few years. Kinda makes it hard to be excited about anything she says or does these days.
I’m ready to tuck into humble pie should she find her spark. She just needs to serve it up.

@BRANDON for one I think if you’re a artist & you make songs that require vocals, you should be able to sing your “own” songs live. 2, it’s sad when you’ll pay your money to see somebody perform live & not sing their own songs recorded. 3, Britney can’t dance nor perform live anymore. She’s really stiff & her choreo is tired & inspired. So, with that said it’s like people are giving her a pass & hyping her up & buying into her solely by her name & her music (which isn’t even top notch per se, it’s just catchy). Lil Wayne Notches Top-Selling Album Of ’08

Rapper Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III” (Cash Money/Universal) is far and away the top seller of 2008, netting 2.88 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. However, it’s the first time the best selling album of the year has sold less than 3 million since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.
Coldplay is a distant second with “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” (Capitol) at 2.15 million, followed by Taylor Swift’s just-released “Fearless” (Big Machine with 2.11 million. Swift’s self-titled 2006 debut is No. 6 on the year-end chart with 1.6 million.
Kid Rock crowns the year-end chart at No. 4 with “Rock N Roll Jesus,” which sold more than 2 million. The Atlantic release was not available on iTunes, fueling sales of the full album.
AC/DC’s Wal-Mart exclusive release, “Black Ice” (Columbia), sold 1.92 million copies to rank No. 5 for the year. It was also held back from digital retailers. Metallica’s “Death Magnetic” (Warner Bros.) came in at No. 7 with 1.57 million, followed by T.I.’s “Paper Trail” (Grand Hustle/Atlantic) at No. 8 with 1.52 million.
Jack Johnson’s “Sleep Through the Static” (Brushfire/Universal) is No. 9 with 1.5 million, while Beyonce’s new “I Am … Sasha Fierce” (Music World/Columbia) rounds out the top 10 with 1.46 million.
In 2008, there were 428.4 million albums sold, down 14.4% compared to 2007’s 500.5 million. Digital downloads of albums accounted for 65.79 million albums this year, or 15.4% of the overall album market. In 2007, digital albums sold 50.01 million and represented 10% of the album market.
Conversely, physical CD albums made up 360.6 million albums this year (84% of the market), compared to 449.18 million last year (90% of overall album sales).
This year also saw a record number of vinyl albums sold, with 1.8 million – more than any other year since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. It’s the first time the industry has sold 1 million vinyl albums in a calendar year since 2004, when 1.2 million were sold. The top selling vinyl set of 2008 was Radiohead’s “In Rainbows,” with 26,000.
Meanwhile, digital track sales continue to blow up, as 2008 was the first year to see over 1 billion tracks sold. All told, 1.07 billion were sold, up 26.7% compared to 2007’s 844 million. The top selling track of the year is Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love,” with 3.37 million.

I figured she would tour for this album, and wouldn’t have made much sense if she didn’t. However, unless she proves herself worthy of a good live performance, she should not tour at all.
Fans deserve much more than the lackluster “performances” she gave them during the Circus tour.

Susan Boyle’s “I Dreamed a Dream” reigns for a sixth straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 137,000 (down 73%) according to Nielsen SoundScan, bringing her cumulative sales total up to 3,104,000. However, while that is a huge sales sum — especially considering it was totaled in just six weeks time — it’s not enough to overtake Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” as 2009’s top selling album. The latter is at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 this week, selling another 60,000 — bringing its 2009 total to 3,217,000.
Of course, Boyle can rest easy in knowing that her “Dream” is but one of just two albums to sell at least 3 million copies in the U.S. last year — something that hasn’t happened since 2006, when three albums did it. Boyle’s “Dream” is also 2009’s top selling album released last year (Swift’s “Fearless” dropped in late 2008), and was also the top selling physical album of 2009. Of its overall 2009 total, physical CDs accounted for 3,019,000 copies, whereas digital downloads made up a rather tiny 86,000.

Michael Jackson’s “Number Ones” is 2009’s third biggest-selling album, with 2.36 million according to SoundScan, while Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” is fourth with 2.24 million. Andrea Bocelli’s recent release “My Christmas” powered through 2.21 million in just nine weeks, making it the year’s fifth best. The soundtrack to “Hannah Montana: the Movie” is sixth (1.82 million), followed by the Black Eyed Peas’ “The E.N.D.” (No. 7 with 1.79 million), Eminem’s “Relapse” (No. 8 with 1.74 million), Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint 3″ (No. 9 with 1.52 million) and Kings of Leon’s “Only By the Night” (No. 10 with 1.40 million).

Why do you thinK Beyonce album sales are not surpassing Dangerously in Love, if it were all about Beyonce she would be selling way more albums in her first week than $400 copies, while Britney and others are coming in at 500k… Beyonce is smoke and mirrors her fansbase isnt as big as one thinks, hence why she had to give away concert tickets to fill the venues. Even Pink grosses more than Beyonce on tour….

Because Britney has the stint with craziness, I can understand her number decline because we all watched her downfall… but she is now back and doing better than the past years. Beyonce has been in our face for 12 years now doing the same things and her numbers are not increasing, she is winning accolades because the decisions are industry based but by public standards she is no where near Icon. Beyonce’s father wanted her upfront, remember she is also on his record label under Sony and he is her manager. Thats why the other girls in the group left, due to favortism and them not being able to use themselves. RL from Next even stated that he wanted to work with Kelly because he thought she was the best singer, but Matthew told him no he would have to work with Beyonce.
