Hit or Miss: Dionne Bromfield – ‘Yeah Right’

Published: Thursday 10th Mar 2011 by Sam

Yes, we know. We’re a little late with this one. Yet as the age old adage goes; better late than never. A saying which rings truer than ever when it comes to introducing Amy Winehouse’s God-daughter Dionne Bromfield.

The 15 year old, whose voice is well beyond her humble age, releases ‘Yeah Right’ as her latest single. Featuring 2011 XXL Freshman Diggy Simmons, it’s the first single to be lifted from her forthcoming album ‘Good For The Soul’ – and is available on iTunes now.

We’ve had this little gem in steady rotation here at That Grape Juice HQ. However, as ever, we’re keen to hear your thoughts. Check out the song’s accompanying video below and let us know if it’s a Hit or Miss. (As you know, we’re a site who value the input of our readers; hence your response has a direct correlation on what you see on your favourite site and mine!)

    I DON’T LIKE HER VOICE

  2. Joseph McCoy March 10, 2011

    It’s way too grown!

She needs to tone it down a lot.

Try to stick to doing music for kids around her age.

    Sounds too… grown.

    4/10 – Honest Opinion

*One of those songs that you don’t care if you ever hear again.

  3. gurl stop March 10, 2011

you can tell shes been studying aunt amy cause they have a very similar technique. I guess depending on the person her tone can be kind of annoying but I think she has a good voice. Maybe it fits an older time period better though.

she still growing. her vacals are still growing and changing. as she gets older her voice will change and mature.

  4. Trizzy Twinkles March 10, 2011

THIS SONG IS IT! I’m singing it after one listen! I have to say I’m impressed with this sound coming from someone so young. Let Miley Cyrus do the teeny bopper s***. I think this is grown but young enough, thanks to Diggy, to really launch her.

  5. Lifee March 10, 2011

    I liked it!

  6. NICK March 10, 2011

I LOVED IT, BUT the video with all the words is an distraction, OTHER THAN THAT, SICK, GREAT VOICE, I WILL BE BUYIGN THIS TODAY ON iTunes…LOVED it…

  7. Dev March 10, 2011

This is so retro to the point on contrived. Her voice is okay but it’s as she’s not singing at her natural ability or pitch, her and that girl from xfactor sounds similar

  8. Realtalk 101 March 10, 2011

Jaden should be singing kiddie songs but Dionne and Diggy and young adults remember when you were 15? Not crazy about the song but I must applaud the UK for turning out real artist. They seem to be studying real artist and real music unlike a lot of the BS fast money making music Americans are turning out.

  9. TheRealBabyDre March 10, 2011

    15 ?!?!? Damn !
Anyway it’s the 1st time when I “meet” her :p and I think it’s pretty cool (It’s Okay option should be up) …. Good luck to her !

  10. MissImpartial March 10, 2011

    Great voice. Better than Willow.

  11. B4REAL2 March 10, 2011

Ummm…..I’m not really feeling this…..maybe a different song would be better for her voice

  12. Sherlock March 10, 2011

Song is incredible! Video sucks. too much with the lyrics on the screen. I’ll definitely pick this one up! Diggy looks good, too!

First time hearing this and I must say I love this song! Dionne’s voice is very mature for her age but I do not necessarily think it’s too grown like a previous commenter has stated. I like the fact that this song has mature lyrics to match her singing voice which will work in her advantage in being successful in the music industry. She doesn’t sound like any other singer her age nor does her music topic…

With this being said, Dionne will stand out. Her music (if she keeps along this path) will not garnish fans and supporters around her age but she will be able to gain fans from a much older age group. She’s on the right path and kudos for her team for snagging Diggy Simmons on the song. They’re both talented youngsters with a bright future.

I’m definitely keeping an eye on her.

I say it is a hit. I’ll be watching to hear what she brings.

Oh, I’m downloading this. Hot 🙂

  16. AuntieJackie March 10, 2011

She’s a lil Amy! And everybody knows I f**** with Amy Jade Winehouse.

It’s good, but I agree with some of the posters that it’s just a wee-bit grown. Still adorable!

  17. elleuk March 10, 2011

knowing the british music industry like i do, she won’t succesd.
only white girls with soulful voices are successful, adele, duffy, joss stone, jessie j, even amy winehouse had to start taking crack and looking like a fool for her to get any attention. plus she is too mature sounding for what should be her target market, but too young to be taken seriously by the older crowd who would buy her music.
dionne come back in 6 years.

  18. Lia March 10, 2011

y’all keep forgetting the late Aaliyah appeared at 15 with a very grown sound and it worked….when I was 15 I was not listening to kiddie songs nor did I have many kiddie thoughts..I was very mature for my age. She can represent those teens n young adults.

  19. dfekndfk March 10, 2011

TOOO MANY MAYBES AND YEAH RIGHT…..IT GETS BORING….I liked her voice though.

  20. Redskin March 10, 2011

British Music industry has more black artists than you think, but they don’t go to America cos america have enough black artisits as it is, and less white soul artists, giving the brits that advantage, but trust me, the UK, particular London has ALOT of Soul artists, who are black british… I really like the song, and yes she will be successful, all she needs is the right promotion

  21. UGh March 10, 2011

I love it. She sound like Amy too. I hope she blows up. I like all the talent that’s coming out of the UK. I love her voice and she’s only 15 wow.

  22. D.Strock March 11, 2011

Not digging her voice at all

  23. Infamous Doll March 11, 2011

Love her voice and I like the video. Not too much yet not too little. Diggy doing his thing I see. But there is only one thing about this vid that bothers me and I guess its the acting. When she lip sync to the song its like she has no expression on her face what so ever. But Im sure as time go on she will feel more comfortable in front of the cam. Very good job to both artist!

  24. Infamous Doll March 11, 2011

BTW she has a voice like Duffy but with Amy WInehouse style of singing

  25. theman March 11, 2011

This sounds like a song that Cee-Lo produced, and she does remind you of Amy in parts.

  26. Cheers (Drink to That) March 11, 2011

    Amy Winehouse’s God-daughter??? o_0

  27. T March 12, 2011

Nothing about this video or song seems natural. I really wanted to like it too.

  28. B March 16, 2011

    ….This S*** Blows

  29. Mo Mo March 24, 2011

She is wonderful! It is no insult that she does sound like Amy. Amy is Excellent as well! The music and the voice is different. A touch of hip hop with a little Motown beat. This is what we need. A change in the music of today instead of the same ole rapping through the whole song. It really gets sickening. We need more singing less talking now! I think Dionne did a great song and has a great future ahead of her!

  30. t April 7, 2011

I don’t know… i really really wanted to like her because i LOVE amy but something about seems just too polished and fake. plus the lyrics are very annoying. “you lied to me like i’m not there” ??? what does that even mean?? i feel terrible but something about this girl just makes me want to smack her.

  31. Sweetness June 9, 2011

i think its really good and i think she’s trying to get songs that fit her voice she has a voice that has voice that goes with more of the 70’s and how many kids listen to that anymore i can tell you not very many so its hard for her to reach that audience try to see it from her point of view

  32. beijingzuu July 19, 2011

I really love her voice. It is different than most girls her age but I can see her future is bright and Im sure she is not feeling the recession.
Thumbs up !! This is a voice you don’t hear often.

  33. Monica August 8, 2011

There’s no denying she’s talented, but there’s a whiney quality to her
voice, which I find quite annoying. She’s definitely no Amy Winehouse.
