That Lady GaGa reign finally let up! The Pop phenom’s ‘Born This Way’ has been ousted from the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 by a song from none other than Katy Perry.
After an impressive 6 weeks at the #1, ‘Born…’ was knocked out of the chart’s peak position by Perry’s ‘E.T (Ft. Kanye West)’ which clocked 254k downloads and 74 million audience impressions this week. With those figures ‘E.T’ also nabbed top honors on the Digital Songs tally.
This accomplishment means that Perry has a total of 4 #1 songs from her ‘Teenage Dream’ LP, making it the 9th album to achieve this feat to date. She is the 1st female artist to hit the chart summit on as many occasions with a single album since Mariah Carey in 1990-91 with her self-titled debut album.
Other songs making moves on the Hot 100 were Rihanna’s ‘S&M’ which creeped to #2, Cee-Lo’s ‘F*ck You (Forget You)’ which r3bounded to #3 and GaGa’s ‘Born This Way’ which tumbled to #4. Additionally, the Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ remained at #5,
Wiz Khalifa’s ‘No Sleep’ debuted at #6 and P!nk’s ‘F*ckin’ Perfect’ slipped from #7 to #8. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On The Floor (Ft. Pitbull)’ re-entered the upper regions of the lineup at #10.
Finally, adding to the success of his #1 album on the Billboard 200, ‘F.A.M.E’, Chris Brown’s ‘Look At Me Now (Ft. Busta Rhymes & Lil Wayne)’ jumped to #7 on the Hot 100 while his collaboration with Justin Bieber, ‘Next 2 You’ entered the chart at #26. On the other hand, there was no sign of Trey Songz.

I would not call Whitney’s second album groundbreaking AT ALL. The music on the album is no different than Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album other than she sings a trillion times better than her. Mariah’s catalogue is so much more better than Whitney’s. I blame Clive Davis who made her sing such safe, generic songs just to get a hit at that time and the fact she was never a real artist per say (writing her own songs, doing the arrangement” )but a vocalist. Most of her catalogue hasn’t aged well. Still doesn’t discredit the fact that she was one of the greatest singers of her generation.
Congrats are in order to Katy, but she probably won’t stay there for long. I’ll give her at least 2 weeks at the top.

That being said, Gaga said herself that BTW is far from the best song on the album. She maintains that Juidas is much better and it would have been her first single but she wanted to get the messege of BTW out there. So if (in Gaga’s own words) a fairly weak song from her album can do that well, Im almost afraid to see how well Judas is going to do. If Judas is as strong as she is claiming, Gaga will be snatching wigs left and right.
