New Song: Jennifer Hudson – ‘Angel’

Published: Monday 14th Mar 2011 by Trent

A new song from Jennifer Hudson surfaced today. ‘Angel’ was written by Alicia Keys and produced by Swizz Beatz for Hudson’s upcoming ‘I Remember Me’ album which hits stores on March 22nd.

Listen to the record below:

This is an amazing song. The grand production, powerful yet melodious vocals and infectious hook display the skills of Hudson, Keys and Beatz at their very best. In fact, this track would be a prime candidate to be a future single as it matches the appeal of Beyonce’s ‘Halo’ and Bruno Mars ‘Grenade’.

The best aspect of the song, however, is Hudson’s versatility. Instead of yelling randomly over the instrumental, she allowed her dynamism as a vocalist to be the main focus. Excellent work!

Great song……why Where U At was chosen as the first single is beyond me! This was an outstanding production!

  3. KAT DELUNA FAN March 14, 2011

I like it but Halo & Grenade sound more Radio Friendly in my opinion.Good luck !!!

I like this song, but “Aint No One Gonna Love You”, should be her next single……THIS ALBUM IS GONNA BE HOTTTT!! Jennifer is bringing the heat this go round!

  6. That FLOP Juice March 14, 2011

It’s OK, but Alicia would have sung this song absolutely better.

I think it was recorded by Alicia for The Element of Freedom album, absoultely that vibe, and it was a leftover, so she gave it to Jennifer and she just re-sung it from the very beginning, because there are some TRADEMARK Alicia parts in the singing. 😉

  7. TWHIST March 14, 2011

Nice track – you can definitely hear Alicia’s inspiration and production on it…I wouldn’t mind hearing A. Keys version of this also..

  8. norma March 14, 2011

I love love love this song! Jhud is putting it down like a top notch artist is suppose too . Clearly, the best female vocalist in the business today hands down. A. Keys knows a true vocalists. Thanks babygirl great recognize great!!!

  9. Mike March 14, 2011

Definitely not radio friendly and no Halo or Grenade it isnt!!!

And she is yelling…..she cant help it

  10. TheMan4u March 14, 2011

i love it, it has the old school vibe that they gave Whitney for Million Dollar bill. A keys and swizzy are becoming a great team, in every way. And j-Hud is bringing those vocals, lets bring real singing and real singers back

Tiffany Evans – Let Me Be Your Angel.

    Reminds me of it.

  13. TIMMI March 14, 2011

Actually, the lyrical and vocal resemblances, particularly in the chorus, are a bit too similar for my likings.

  14. TIMMI March 14, 2011

I still like the track though. I’m looking forward to this album.

  15. Tru Voice March 14, 2011

    I like it!

    I Love IT!

  17. whatyousay March 14, 2011

It’s ok but all that yelling is not necessary for a vocalist as herself. By far Where you at is the best single so far of what I’ve heard off her album. And yes this do sound like a left over song from Alicia’s last album element of freedom that didn’t make the cut and Alicia gave it to her. Also I can’t see this climing anywhere on the charts at all but who knows.

  18. thinkaboutit March 14, 2011

The song is nice, but like some other people commented, I think Alicia would do a great job singing this song. Sounds SO much like her. Love Jennifer Hudson as a singer and actress but this sounds more like Alicia Keys music and it would be great to hear her sing it.

  19. Reina March 15, 2011

    I will say this is a 4 out of 5 . where u at <u got me<angel….. so far!!!

  20. where you at March 15, 2011

what a cd, all kind of excellent songs to listen to, gone is still my favorite so far.

  21. djnl123 March 15, 2011

Most radio friendly single off this album yet! This is the sound Jhud should be shooting for every time. Thank you Alicia for figuring out what to do with Jenny’s voice. Jennifer you are an amazing talent; keep it up. I like the direction of your sound.

  22. Be BETTER not “Bitter!” March 15, 2011

The song is cool but I am not at all looking forward to this album as I didn’t purchase the last one either. She is very talented and has an amazing voice but her music does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for me at ALL!!! However, I do wish her Best of Luck especially since she is competing with Chris Brown for 1st week opening numbers and she is DEFINITELY MORE TALENTED than him!!!

  23. Robier March 15, 2011

THE CD LEAKED TODAY AND I CAN’T WAIT TO BUY IT

  24. Lostonez March 15, 2011

    its a cool song..

  25. eric March 15, 2011

It’s not bad, but I think it would fit Alicia better than it would Jennifer, just like the song Swizzy and Alicia did for Whitney. “Where You At?” is what gives Jenn a sound that is more unique and more her own.

  26. Quiana March 15, 2011

    I like it.

  27. MeMe March 15, 2011

I personally like Where You At sooo much better
Lol I realized me and Trent have completelyyyy different musical tastes

  28. mystery March 15, 2011

i can hear alicia in the background vocals.

you can never firgure me out- why try?

  29. KD March 15, 2011

This song is nowhere near Halo or Grenade. This album is turning out to be a major snooze-fest. Her debut had better songs than this (and I have to say that I was not particularly impressed by it).

This may sound crass but after the tragedy that she went through I was expecting some hard-hitting moving music (kind of like how Pink and Christina Aguilera channeled their pain to release their best work i.e. Missunderstood and Stripped).

  32. Jeffrey March 15, 2011

most of the comments reveal the “bottom line” about this song.
its an alicia song..sung by jennifer. Jennifer didnt make this song hers.
from the arrangement, to the ad-libs. the background vocals. it just oozes Alicia

  33. royalkev March 15, 2011

I have been passing by this post over and over. I am not drawn to J. Hud, but after giving this a try and being open minded I realized she has something with this album. It’s coming along. Great new sound!

This song instantly made me think of the Ivory queen of soul Teena Marie song: I Need Your Loving some reason

    Similar undertones especially hook wise.

    Like this track alot though
    Jennifer just solid on this.

  35. HA-HA March 15, 2011

    @ANTERTAIM

I thought exactly the same thing! thought it was just me lol

  36. whatsittoyou March 16, 2011

Sounds like Alicia in the background at one point. If she had anything to do with it, it has to be a great song. Jennifer sounds great also.

  37. JNezz March 17, 2011

there is definitely a teena marie ‘i need your lovin’ sample all over this song. i love it! i think it’s a great tribute to the blue eyed soul singer…having said that, i would also like to hear alicia keys perform it…but damn jhud’s voice is incredible!
