New Video: Keyshia Cole – ‘Take Me Away’

Published: Monday 18th Apr 2011 by Trent

It looks like Keyshia Cole is going to give her ‘Calling All Hearts’ album one last push before moving on to her next project. The R&B singer released the TAJ-directed video for the record’s latest single, ‘Take Me Away’, today in a bid to help the LP get pass its current sales cap of 290k.

Watch the visual below:

Serving as one of the standout songs on the album, it is no surprise that this track has been released. However, following in the path of multiple unsuccessful singles and remarks by Cole herself about being ready to abandon this project, it is highly unlikely that it will make waves on radio beyond the Urban market.  Indeed, the song has already climbed to #27 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Maybe next time Cole should focus on making an album with records that show artistic growth and an edgier sound instead of material suited to beauty salons on the corner next to the liquor store. Just a thought.

    WTF KEYSHIA!?
She should have relased this video like a month or more ago, when it was kickin on urban radio.
But now it is about to fall off.
Just move on to the next album.

  2. Twista April 18, 2011

I think the main reason that R&B artists who experienced past commercial success and are flopping these days (Keyshia, Ciara, R. Kelly, Ne-Yo) is due to saturation. None of these guys are doing much to change it up or break out of their rut, and with Rihanna changing up her sound every LP and Lady Gaga keeping all eyes on her, they should be doing a heck of a lot more.

  3. THEMUSICPROFESSOR April 18, 2011

Keyshia waited too long to release the video. The song was actually climbing up urban radio and now its falling .She needs to regroup and she needs that reality show next album it helps her sales and she needs better material.

  4. Lolsmieyface April 18, 2011

With that said, she does look good and the video slays, just like the track does.
Too bad its not going to help…

  5. lisa April 18, 2011

KEYSHA COLE YOU NEED TO GO AWAY WITH THIS LATE VIDEO!

  6. Mr.M April 18, 2011

    Who’s that m*****?

  7. princebarbietv April 18, 2011

    Love this song

  8. TTB April 18, 2011

    That was cute!!

  9. WTF?? April 18, 2011

Trent, the song PEAKED at #27… Its currently in the #40’s on R&B…. SMH… The video is “OK”… Its seems like Keyshia’s videos are identical to her music: REDUNDANT… Every video she’s wear a beater beach side… The dance moves sucked.. Her face was beautiful but thats not enough.

Keyshia needs to return to her roots, (GOOD R&B SONGS). She has this cockiness about her that does really relate. I miss the Keyshia that was DOWN TO EARTH…

Nonetheless, album is DONE…FLOP…. She should’ve never fired Manny.

While I agree with Twista in some aspects…you have to remember there is a clear distinct difference between Pop and R&B. The only way artist to have such success with R&B is if its crossover music. Remember Beyonce was all R&B in the beginning now she totally revamped her style and is able to mix the two together. R&B artist like Mary J Biige has had major success but lately not so much.

So I do agree with you about them changing it up a bit, but please do not compare anything to the likes of Rihanna. She is a pretty face woman who lacks talents, but is very easy to market because many of todays fans are easily influence by the next big thing. Instead of loving an artist who passionate about their careers, their lyrical content, and music that is really timeless…. many of todays fans of this current music do not require that much. They like shock value lyrics, a nice beat to bang to, and nakedness! Im in no way hating on anyone, but Im only speaking the truth. While my favorite performer, vocalist, and extraordinary artist has seen her peak years already, none of these new artist will ever be able to create or repeat the success that she has! So Im not concerned if people disagree or not!

Ok maybe I should have watched the video first LOL….. Keyshia baby girl I love you and all…but we should of had a lil more interaction between you and whoever the guy was. A few moves and standing on a beach doesn’t have s*** to do with the song. And how many beach videos are we going to get SMH! I still love Keyshia and I play all her music because I am a fan, the video was very BASIC! Nonetheless this is my jam so f it. Where is Monica?

  12. IKNOWTHETRUTH April 18, 2011

I LOVE THIS SONG BUT FROM JUMP, SHE SHOULD HAVE RELEASED “SO IMPOSSIBLE” ALONG WITH THIS ONE FOR MORE PROMOTION AND MASSIVE EXPOSURE. KEYSHIA BEING AN R&B ARTIST NEEDS AS MUCH PROMO AS POSSIBLE. THE BALL WAS DROPPED WITH THIS DUE TO HER FIRING HER MANAGER RIGHT BEFORE THE RELEASE AND SHE WOULDN’T RE-RECORD THE ALBUM LIKE INTERSCOPE ASKED HER TO. “SO IMPOSSIBLE” AND “TAKE ME AWAY” ARE THE BEST SONGS ON THE ALBUM. SHE NEEDS TO RELEASE “SO IMPOSSIBLE” AS HER LAST CHANCE AT LEAST TO TRY TO PUSH THE ALBUM GOLD. SHE HAS TIME, IT’S NOT BEEN A YEAR YET. ALBUMS USED TO STAY OUT FOR YEARS BEFORE RELEASING ANOTHER SO FAST BECAUSE THE MUSIC IS SO BAD. SHE NEEDS TO PUSH THIS GOLD AND WHEN THIS ALBUM PASSES THE YEAR MARK SHE NEEDS TO RELEASE A BETTER ONE.

    FLOP girl!

  14. Nick April 18, 2011

Love this song-album is good., they just need to learn how to perform live & b all over then people woul b more into it

  15. dee April 18, 2011

The song is losing spins at Urban. It might be a little too late.

  16. dee April 18, 2011

Keyshia girl you better call Mo.

  17. okk April 18, 2011

I love this song, best on her CD IMO.

  18. royalkev April 18, 2011

I like this song. I think that people like myself (who aren’t Keyshia Cole fans) should hear more of this from her. This has a catchy hook and it’s really just something sensual and breezy that you can get into. Keyshia, like Mary J and J. Hud has a habit of making music that seems depressing, dreary and sometimes even dry. It nice that their learning to lighten things up and all 3 of them don’t over sing as much as they use to. I’m not insulting them, I just think they needed to switch it up(like someone said above). I don’t think Rihanna should be their inspiration, but I do think they should experiment the way she does… and this doesn’t mean going pop. R&B has cousins (jazz, funk, etc)…

I really don’t appreciate the comment about Keyshia needing to do “edgier” music instead of music geared towards beauty shops next to liquor stores…IF you had bothered to listen to her previous album, A DIFFERENT ME, you would have heard edgier music from Keyshia. She tried to branch into a smoother r&b sound on several tracks but her so-called fans thought her music strayed too far away from her roots and didn’t support that project.

CALLING ALL HEARTS is a good album in my opinion. I don’t skip the first 10 tracks so that’s a success in my book. Keyshia’s label had some major upheaval so her promo this go round has been effed up! She also was woman enough to admit that she fought for the WRONG lead single which gave urban bloggers an excuse to diss this project.

Anyway, TAKE ME AWAY is an upbeat very radio-friendly track and I sincerely hope that it ignites interest in her album because there are some great tracks on it!

  20. megan April 18, 2011

I like the song, but the video reminds me of the Sent from Heaven video.

  21. Jwellz10 April 18, 2011

I LIKE THE SONG BUT I THINK IT MIGHT BE TOO LATE TO SAVE IT…IF SHE WOULD’VE RELEASED EARLIER IT WOULD’VE GOTTEN HIGHER ON THE R&B CHARTS..BUT IT COULD TURN AROUND WITH THE VIDEO OUT NOW (JUST SAYIN)…I`M GUESSING DUE TO THE FACT THAT SHE WAS WICTCHING OR TRYING TO FIND A NEW MANAGER IS THE REASON THE VIDEO IS COMING OUT SO LATE…A LOT OF R&B ACTS COULD & STILL HAVE SUCCESS IF ONLY THEIR LABEL WOULD RELEASE IT TO POP & RYTHMIC RADIO TOO INSTEAD OF JUST SENDING IT TO URBAN

  22. Robier April 18, 2011

    pass

  23. MrIncredible April 18, 2011

A hot mess, and what was with her being in a wife beater no the beach and with those dated dance steps? No ma’am.

  24. The Life Size Bobble Head Formally Known As Rhitard The Goat April 18, 2011

Im officially adding Keyshia 2 da list of Life Time Acheivement Flop Awards…… da score is currentlly tied between Ciara and Keri Hilson

  25. Keesha April 18, 2011

I like this song, but not the video.

  26. Renae April 18, 2011

@TWISTA…Don’t know were you’re getting your numbers but from what I’ve heard R Kelly’s last album did quite well.

  27. theman April 18, 2011

This is a good song, but what took it so long to get released. This era has been all over the place, and it has been very rushed, nothing has been consistent. Keyshia messed up releasing that dated a** throw away song “I Ain’t Through”, she should have released “LWD” then this, then “So Impossible, and lastly the song feat herself and Faith Evans. I don’t know what she was thinking.

There were far to many things wrong with this era.

  28. theman April 18, 2011

“CAH” is a good album though.

When some people say that want the ole Keyshia, alot of them i think mean hood Keyshia, she is growing, and thats good.

  29. FORMERRIRISTAN….SMH… April 18, 2011

JR SAID IT ALL!! IM WITH U MAN…DATS WHY IM WAITING 4 BEYOOOONCE, EVEN FROM THE SNIPPET OF GIRLS(WHO RUN THE WORLD) SHE’S COMING TO SLAY, U HAVE TO CHANGE IT UP, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER UR RNB OR NOT….AND THE MERE FACT THAT AN ARTIST WANT TO GROW SHOULD SPUR THEM ON TO CHANGE THINGS UP TO…

  30. theman April 18, 2011

Change is good, but you also need to keep in mind whom your audience is, show growth but don’t forget your core audience either.

  31. The Truth April 18, 2011

This video is similar to her “Heaven Sent” video. Oh well I hope it works for her.

  32. Helen April 18, 2011

    Nice song…wasn’t feeling the album…

  33. KIIKD April 18, 2011

    Love Keyshia!

One of the last who isn’t a sell out and make quality r&b

  34. T-Sparkz April 18, 2011

I like Keyshia Cole and I like her music but, I feel like this was her weakest album. This album didn’t really give u the Keyshia from all three of her previous albums mixed together.

  35. JR April 18, 2011

@Theman you are right you cant forget your audience and that is why I love Monica. Although she did not have a huge commercial success she found it in her audience, and worked hard to achieve it. Her videos were not lame, they had concept and her songs had real meaning, and now most of all she can SING! Not taking anything away from anyone else R&B artist just need to be creative and work hard at maintaining themselves in this business, plain and simple!

  36. automatic7aubrey April 18, 2011

This is not like Heaven Sent just because she is on a beach, the video concepts are completely different. This video is beautiful i honestly didnt know the single had even dropped because of the issues with her management and such. I love Keyshia, she is one of my fav artists and I wish her the best.

  37. Cheers (Drink to That) April 19, 2011

This vid should not have been released, the project is a COMPLETE FLOP!

She needs to go BACK to the studio & keep working. I was TERRIBLY disappointed CALLING ALL HEARTS!

  38. antonio April 19, 2011

The same thing is happening to Keyshia Cole that happened to Ciara. There first two album were very Urban so their fans and critics said if they want to be morte successful, they need to diversify their music, so KC releaesed A Different Me and CiCi released Fantasy Ride and what happened, they got mixed reviews from fans and critics who said they both were abandoning their Urban roots for a smoother/lighter mainstream sound. Personally, I think A Different Me and Fantasy Ride were Keyshia and Ciara’s best albums. I just hope both of them can find a lane that suits them well and the same goes for Mya, Brandy and Ashanti.

  39. dylethat April 22, 2011
