Aguilera Talks Hardships, Traitors, & New LP On ‘Today Show’

Published: Tuesday 17th May 2011 by Sam

As if you couldn’t tell, Christina Aguilera has been on a gruelling promotional schedule for her hit NBC show ‘The Voice’ as of late.

Things came to a head for the diva this morning during a tense interview on the ‘Today Show’. For following questions about the usual topics, host Matt Lauer proceded to grill the singer on her recent arrest, divorce, and family’s supposed attempts at staging an intervention.

Given Aguilera’s much documented ‘attitude’, this certainly makes for an interesting watch. Check out how she responded after the jump…

Kudos to Christina for keeping her cool (although her face and demeanor when questioned were priceless). That said, Lauer gets props for actually ‘going there’. Far too often PR teams and corporate relations see artists asked safe or redundant questions just to ensure their slot on a show; something which not only hampers true journalism, but denies viewers answers to the questions they really want answers to.

Anyway, back to Christina…

  3. WildChild May 17, 2011

Christina is one of my favorites. I hope that her next album is just as good as Stripped.

  4. yaaaasss May 17, 2011

girlfriend is clearly eating her feelings =/

  5. Joseph McCoy May 17, 2011

Love that girl, so intelligent and aware.

Nobody is bringing this chick down.

  6. sabrina May 17, 2011

This was a really good interview! She was honest but also stayed true to herself. Love that about her.Shut up @Yaaasss

  7. lol May 17, 2011

All i’ll say about Christina is that she is and always has been all about Christina, this show is no different. She could give 2 hoots about her contestants, its a damn launching pad to salvage her career. Ceelo don’t particularly need it nor does that country guy.

  8. Carl May 17, 2011

LOL, I love her, she looked like she wanted to punch him but i’m hyped for this album.

  9. Angie May 17, 2011

Matt Lauer always leaves a bad taste in my mouth for some reason.

  10. chibikuma May 17, 2011

I love the fact that Christina carries on working and keeps her head high! The last year the media was out to get her like no one else and she still remains true to herself and carries on doing what she loves! For that reason I will always be a fan!

  11. Kim May 17, 2011

She doesn’t give a damn, when she has to work she works no matter what. And that’s what I like about her.

  12. Dave May 17, 2011

She SLAYED the interview & him. & you be over-exaggerating stuff. She barely had those face moments. Love her though 🙂

  13. Alex May 17, 2011

….”there was a lot to happen this year, the divorce, the national anthem, the fall at the grammys and the fall of your dress strap toward the middle of this interview…..how do you feel christina……..lol……………….(I love her work ethic and I love her voice)

  14. Giovanni Dayevid May 17, 2011

    X-Tina. X-Tina. X-Tina.

When will someone give this poor woman a great stylist, and a great PR team. In all honesty with such an EPIC voice, a large compilation of albums and singles, and such talent all around. . . How come nobody will tell her that if she would just drop 15 pounds, dye her hair black, and learn to dance that she would literally obliterate Gaga, Britney, Rihanna, and Katy Perry. Like she could be the best girl on the block. If by some twisted chance you are reading the Christina I love you, and we all love you lets forget the drama and start putting out some hits baby! ^_^

  15. Kerry Johnson May 17, 2011

    YES CHRISTINA SLAY ME!!!!!!!
Christina aguilera and Rihanna are true DIVAS!!!
    THE END!!

  16. wateva May 17, 2011

i love how he gets props for “going there”, but when a m*********** “goes there” with that precious lady chris brown, and he tears up the green room with his psychotic meltdowns, everyone blames the interviewer, and not the subject of the bratty childish b*******…

and anybody that doesn’t like what i just said.. get a sippy straw and suck out my p**** hole!

  17. Xadax May 17, 2011

One of the best but underrated.

  18. Floprisha Knowles May 17, 2011

she handled that interview like a pro.
she was on top of her ish and quick with the comebacks
but shes starting to look shape wise like snooki smh

  19. Bruno Kin May 17, 2011

she didn’t speak on all that weight she is gaining..but her voice is incredible..:)…Uggs Giving Away Stuff After PETA called them out.. http://goo.gl/OeFMB to Get Consumers to Support them….haha got 2 pair!

  20. True Blue May 17, 2011

Agree with @Wildchild, Stripped is her best album. A very raw and honest record. Highly underrated too. I can’t wait for her next album, especially since it may have some strong rock influences.

And you might want to let up on the peroxide, Christina. That’s too blonde.

  21. Kerry Johnson May 17, 2011

    KISS ME!!!

  22. Jules May 17, 2011

I love how there’s a mix of well-thought out comments and ignorant, stupid, and judgmental comments… Shows that some of you really have nothing better to do that to spout poison about others on the internet. It’s not so much the criticism, it’s the lack of class and thought that’s put into it.

  23. Kerry Johnson May 17, 2011

    Christina Aguilera nd Rihanna 2012!!!!!!

  24. xxx May 17, 2011

    ^^^@wateva great point!

  25. Holla May 17, 2011

I agree with Wateva. When Chris Brown went nuts on GMA, this website accused “the media” of trying to get him down. However, Matt gets kudos for upholding “true journalism?” “Far too often PR teams and corporate relations see artists asked safe or redundant questions just to ensure their slot on a show; something which not only hampers true journalism, but denies viewers answers to the questions they really want answers to.”

Isn’t that what Robin was doing?

  26. aisha May 17, 2011

i also think she’d look better w/ darker hair. love u aguilera!

  27. Kerry Johnson May 17, 2011

    KISS ME!!!!

  28. nate May 17, 2011

    @Holla
I was just about to type how this site gave Robin from GMA so much crap for the Chris Brown interview.. Yet when Matt Laurer grills, it’s good journalism? Robin had acutal proof that Chris Brown has anger issues.. Matt has NO concrete evidence that Christina’s friends tried to stage a intervention, just rumors. Christina got him together either way.

  29. DION_ISH May 17, 2011

Cosign that….Funny How when Robin wanted to ask the question that everyone wanted too know which was has CB seen Rihanna or anything after the Restraining order (Had NOTHING to do with the actual incident) Sam says shes being un-proffessional but when Matt does it to Cristina its true journalism …PUHLEEZ! B*******….Sam wouldnt know what TRUE Journalism was unless it somehow possessed his body.

  30. Kerry Johnson May 17, 2011

    S** FOR BREAKFAST!!!!

  31. HUDSON MORRIGAN May 17, 2011

    Yaaaaaawwwwns
That’s the difference between Lady Gaga whose art is about positivity and enjoying life
And Xtuna, whose art is all about reliving her pain over and over and over and never getting over it, that’s why in every album since “Stripped” she includes songs about her childhood hardships and s***…in other words, she is still a victim and doesn’t wanna get over it so she keeps trying to spread her darkness around, misery loves company
That’s why I can’t admire her or respect her, I don’t think the world needs that kind of message at all, the world needs positivity and happiness not constant “my daddy beat my mommy and molested me”.

  32. Hudson Morrigan May 17, 2011

OOPS. Sorry. I just said that because I’m sooooooooooo freaking jealous of Christina’s talents.

  33. Kerry Johnson May 17, 2011

    F*** GAGA
    THE END!!!!!!

  34. True Blue May 17, 2011

    @ Hudson Morrigan:

So that means every artist who writes about pain sucks? I didn’t know making music from your heart was a bad thing, I thought that’s what makes an artist sincere.

And I would think most people who go through hardships in life could far better relate to an artist who speaks to their pain. Oh, and Christina’s music isn’t all about doom and gloom, it’s also about having strength and not letting the negative s*** bring you down. If you actually listened to her music, you would know that.

But continue making yourself look as dumb as a FOX News commentator. Saying s*** without knowing your facts, just for the sake of shooting your mouth off.

And co-sign with @ Whateva, Holla, Nate and Dion-ish. The bias and hypocrisy of this site is staggering.

  35. True Blue May 17, 2011

LMAO @ the fake Hudson Morrigan!

  36. LaLa May 17, 2011

LOL @ MORGANNA… you haven’t grow up. tsk tsk tsk…

I guess you never FEEL the pain of life. *sarcasm*

  37. #1QueenGaga May 17, 2011

    I CAN’T WAIT FOR FLOP 2.0

  38. skintightjeans May 17, 2011

Christina, less time at Popeyes Chicken and the liquor store and more time at the gym. Fat ass!

  39. LaLa May 17, 2011

^ Oh damn.. you make me drooling. I want Popeyes’ Calamari!!!

  40. irene46 May 17, 2011

    @ giovanni dayevid…

christina should definitely drop some weight and get a (new) stylist. perhaps the same one that styled her through 2004-2008 glam era. she was referred to as a fashioneesta back then!

christina seems way to fair-skinned for the harshness of black hair. at her age it might make her look worn and haggered.

christina can hold her own with any of them when it comes to dancing. the evidence is in her ‘dirrty and ‘candyman’ videos! she also showed some good moves in her movie ‘burlesque’.

    ————————————————————————————————-

that was remark from matt lauer about the voice contestants becoming more famous than christina after her 10 year career, was snarky, shady and uncalled for. she gets this kinda crap a lot. and people want to call her a “b****”?! she gets kudoes for the way she handled it though!

  41. Ariana May 17, 2011

Matt wasn’t disrespectful at all, he was very nice to her even though he asked some personal questions. I like the interview, who would have thought Aguilera would keep it cool? She managed the situation very well.

Dead @ Hudson’s alter ego. You guys are too much! 😀

  42. Ariana May 17, 2011

PS If I were on Aguilera’s PR team I’d strongly suggest her to tone down her make up and change her wardrobe. Seriously, she’d look so much better.

  43. irene46 May 17, 2011

@ the real hudson morrigan (with the christina icon)…

well, you finally gave that “i hate christina because she can’t sing” crap a rest! now you hate her because you claim her songs are negative. kinda lame, hudson!!!

  44. Christian May 17, 2011

@ Giovanni Dayevid – Sorry but Christina isn’t obliterating ANYONE!!!! Atleast not the names you’ve mentioned in your post.. Makes you wonder why the general audience didn’t accept “Bionic” which by the way she was15lbs thinner. Oh and dying her hair black WON’T DO ANYTHING!!!!

But I love Christina’s music and I wish her the best. 🙂

  45. It’s time for “4” May 17, 2011

“true journalism” yeah, like this site sam.

  46. LaLa May 17, 2011

    @IRENE & @HUDSON

    here’s… a mashup quotes:

I don’t think the world needs that kind of message at all, the world needs positivity and happiness not constant “i hate christina because she can’t sing” crap.

LMAO! Now that’s the truth right?!

  47. IRememberMe May 17, 2011

    @ Hudson Morrigan-

Have you not listened to the lyrics on every song of Stripped? You are too f****** delusional.

You f****** Gaga stans drive me nuts! Delusional f****** teenagers!

  48. HUDSON MORRIGAN May 17, 2011

She can write music from her heart and pour all her dark feelings into it
But I won’t be buying, I’ll be happy at the club with a bottle of red wine stars in my eyes coz I’m having a good time yeah yeah so happy I could die and it would be alright 🙂

And it’s not like she is really anything about “the darkness” at least artists like Marilyn Manson criticize the darkness and try to find a way out of it, not dig deeper into that feeling.

  49. HUDSON MORRIGAN May 17, 2011

And I already said I don’t hate Christina as a person
I hate bad singing and the concept that singing well should sound painful
And she epitomizes that, that’s why I dislike her singing and her music 🙂

  50. Xadax May 17, 2011

Xtina came in strong. Gaga (rolling my eyeballs) cried at her trailer. She even said retarded at a mag interview. Xtina is strong. Stripped, B2B & Bionic had better concept, topics, positivity than The Fame The Fame Monster & Born This Way combined. Stripped helped a lot of ‘real freaks’ than what Gaga had to offer. Technology made it posible for Gaga unlike Xtina who had to pull it through w/o those itunes etc…

  51. rich May 17, 2011

    shes amazing

  52. Julien May 17, 2011

She looks fat :// but I still adore her 🙂

  53. Xtina_always_wins_all_the_time May 17, 2011

Christina is the best, like Cee-Lo says. Christina is not just the best VOCALIST like so many older legends say, but she’s also the best most normal and sane, down to earth bad@** pop star.

Christina AMAZINGLERA is my favorite singer of all time! 1998 to the infinity. I will now proceed to listen to all of her CDs.

  54. LaLa May 17, 2011

    @HUDSON…
    mmmkkkaaayyyy…
so you “dislike her singing and her music”
but why are you always on damn XTUNA POSTs!????

just to spread negativity or because you’re Gaga’s Lil Monster!?
you talk so much crapppp… positivity MY ASS!

  55. Xtina_always_wins_all_the_time May 17, 2011

Christina Voicelera has a trademark singing style so epic, it’s THE BEST!!!

Who agrees that Christina is one of the best singers of all time on Earth? Google it : Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Etta James, Cee-Lo, Blake Shelton, P. Diddy, Mick Jagger, Ricky Martin, Aretha Franklin, JC Chasez, Timberlake, Goldfrapp, etc, etc, ETC.

So many folks have praised THE VOICE OF THIS GENERATION the one and only Christina Aguilera.

The haters can stay f*cking mad. Poor haters always feel threatened by Xtina, EVEN WHEN SHE FLOPS. You poor wack haters. Xtina poops on you and whoever other stupid@** pop star you prefer over her.

Xtina Voicelera wins all the time.

  56. S*** May 17, 2011

    .

  57. Connor Evans May 17, 2011

I hope the new album isn’t just 12+ ballads. I love Christina’s ballads, but when she get’s down and “Dirrty” – I adore it! I’d like her to do maybe a few dance songs, some up-tempo some ballads. This stale R&B-ballad sound has been with her since a very early time, and I think some songs in the vein of “Like It Or Not” by Madonna would be very different and enjoyable. And, dance music is very popular now so with this she can keep her personal, heart-felt songs but obtain a commercial like-ability; something I feel she tries to do with “Bionic” but again did the stale R&B.

  58. LaLa May 17, 2011

^No need to bragging. coz Haters will alwayssss aside that facts…
plus… her voice is not for EVERYONE to enjoy.

    example:
S***: QUEEN BEY is the BESTTT VOCALIST!
KYLE: HELL NO B****! BRITNEY IS THE SUPERSTAR! SHE SING BEAUTIFULLY.
HUDSON: GAGA SOUND SO AMAZINGLY, IT MADE ME CRY. EPIC!

    😛

  59. harlem May 17, 2011

Damn all you people ever talk about is flop this flop that..smh….

  60. Kerry Johnson May 17, 2011

Christina aguilera is better then GAGA
    THE END!!!!

  61. S*** May 17, 2011

    @Connor Evans

Isnt that the EXACT SAME mistake she made with her LAST Album BioFLOP, Thinking she can PULL OFF Dance Tracks when she really cant??

RUN THE WORLD >>>>>>> BioFLOP 😐

    @LaLa

    You’re damn right!, I HATE Xtina’s Voice. 😕

    @Xtina_always_wins_all_the_time

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC0wyiySV9w

  62. Xtina_always_wins_all_the_time May 17, 2011

I would LOVE to have Xtina’s voice. NOBODY ELSE’s.

Celion f*cking Dion HERSELF says Christina is a better singer than she is. Now THAT is an EPIC COMPLIMENT.

Christina VOICELERA’s voice is f*cking incredible. It f*cking annihilates everything. I LAUGH at the haters who attempt to discredit her immense voice. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! You poor imbeciles!

Xtina poops so hard on the haters, since the 90s to the infinity.

I am listening to ALL OF XTINA’S EPIC CDs right now.

  63. Xtina_always_wins_all_the_time May 17, 2011

    Xtina can FLOP! I don’t give a sh*t!

I LOVE her flops! The best pop CDs I have are from Christina VOICELERA!!! I don’t give a sh*t if she sells just twenty CDs worldwide!!! LOL

Who gives a flying f*cking f*ck about that sh*t. Who epic nerds are so pathetic with your flops this and hits that. STFU about sales and charts. I don’t buy CDs based on charts and flops! You epic idiots.

  64. LaLa May 17, 2011

    @S***… I know hunnee
There’s ONE & ONLY diva in your head = BEYONCE.
I luv her too & I like “Run The World”

but lol at chu comparing BIOFLOP to RTW.
Thank Lord I’m not delusional. lmao

    just pray dear… pray.

  65. GangsterA May 17, 2011

Great interview this woman is so strong keep it going x can’t wait 4 album haters will deal :p

  66. Xtina_always_wins_all_the_time May 17, 2011

Look at Christina smiling, not giving a sh*t if her CD flops or not.

Why? Because she doesn’t worry about the wrong things! She doesn’t worry about stupid wack@** sh*t like being number 1 on the charts at all times.

Christina remains the epic talented vocalist and sane, strong human being that she is.

    Xtina always wins.

The haters are too stupid to understand.

  67. HUDSON MORRIGAN May 17, 2011

LOL @ these stans saying she is the best voice in the world
If she is so good why does she struggle with simple middle voice notes? why does she sound like she is in pain just trying to hold a simple note? seriously, I expect the best singer to sing effortlessly or at least appear to be doing so effortlessly, not sounding a tired strained mess.

  68. credtis May 17, 2011

Oh man!!!!!!!!!! DID HE JUST SAY WHAT I THOUGHT HE SAID????????????? “They are going to be more famous than you after the show than the 10 years of your career”….WOW!

  69. LaLa May 17, 2011

LOL @Hudson Morganna who didn’t even address the REAL TOPIC of this post.

    POSITIVITY right? buahahahaha Bull S***.

  70. Corey May 17, 2011

That was a great interview. She handled the questions really well. NBC and The Voice has done wonders for Xtina, and vice versa. I hope it shows people that she’s not a b**** like people to say she is (guarded, yes) and that she has a warm, bubbly personality. Don’t people remember her like that when she came out? lol.

Anywho, I’m ready for whatever she gives us whether more TV, films, and of course more music. The list of producers & collaborators thus far is intriguing.

  71. KoreanDream May 17, 2011

“They’re going to be more famous after this show than you were after 10 years of your career”? How dare he! That’s so rude! If I were Christina, I would have slapped him across the face.

    Man, I miss Bitchtina.

  72. True Blue May 17, 2011

    @ Renaissance Woman:

I swear you don’t know what you want.

  73. Mizkeri-babe May 17, 2011

    Matt Lauer aint s***…lol

man I was busting laughing through this whole interview…

    xtinas face priceless……

she cant blame people for judgin her a**, especially when she has a stink attitude threw her whole career..

she needs to take note, and eat a huge humble pie for her next album

  74. LEGENDTINA4LIFE May 17, 2011

    Chrissy next album will slay!!
    @HUDSON MORRIGAN
You just couldnt keep away from an Christina post could you? Its ok, I have the same problem

  75. Mahogany May 17, 2011

SHE’S THICK NOW. NOT CUTE AT ALL ANYMORE.

  76. Technodick May 18, 2011

I think xtina will do fine. She’s not the best singer of this generation in my opinion . But she still can sing better than about 90% of the singers today. Its kind of crazy how she fell off all of a sudden . Xtina,Beyonce,Ciara,Britney shouldn’t have to compete with the newbies. Christina, and Beyonce should be making grown up music. Ciara should be where Janet was around the Janet album fresh and fun minus the crunck. Britney should be where Madonna was in the 90’s movies, soundtracks etc.

  77. iLoveXtina May 18, 2011

Hudson Morrigan needs to hear songs like Beautiful, Fighter, Can’t Hold Us Down, Cruz, Soar, Keep on Singing My Song, Ain’t No Other Man, Understand, The Right Man, I Am & Vanity.

Gaga has plenty of dark songs (Speechless, Bad Romance, Alejandro, Monster, Edge of Glory as well but she masks them with dance beats and catchy hooks. She doesn’t have too many because she didn’t have a harsh upbringing. She had it all.

Plus Xtina can sing whatever she wants to since it’s her song! How do you know that that’s her way of saying she’s reliving her pain, what if she just wants to write songs that will help others get over similar situations? No one is constantly happy or positive, everyone has their days, & I don’t think no one wants to be in denial & think life is a smooth ride because it isn’t.

  78. Hudson Morrigan May 18, 2011

Christina has said such messed s*** like “Depression is seductive”
I think that’s a horrible message to send out

  79. LaLa May 18, 2011

THE VOICE eps. 4 is ON!

  80. CORY May 18, 2011

SOMEBODY WAS REACHING WHEN THEY SAID HER DEMEANOR CHANGED WHEN ASKED QUESTIONS…………………..

  81. Christina is The Voice May 18, 2011

    @ Hudson Morgan

Seems you know Christina’s music well for someone who pretends to hates her so much. Though saying that depression is seductive might not be a pretty message it is so very true for many people. The darkside has seducing us since Adam and Eve, but finding our way to the light after we’ve fallen is a big part of the meaning of life. “Save Me from Myself” was about how Jordon gave Christina a reason to resist the seductiveness of that dark place where she would be alone. What’s more he gave the love she needed to inspire her to seek the light and continue to work hard to achieve her dreams. Christina shares the joys and the pain, the tragedies and the triumphs she’s experienced in life in her songs. She is a good song writer, even if some of her songs are heartbreaking, like “Hurt”, but many musicians and critics say that that song is a masterpiece.

  82. Taylo1 May 18, 2011

    @Hudson morrigan

It’s funny he keeps talkin about being positive and happy and he hates xtinas music because it’s negative and depressing and how he hates her voice because she can’t sing. AND YET, every time I come on here to read, he’s on every xtina post obviously reading about her and being that negative and depressing person he so claims xtina to be. He just does it for attention, I don’t know why people entertain it.

  83. Shatanisha May 18, 2011

he said, “There going to be more famous after this show, tahn u were ten years after your career.” HE WENT THERE. LOOL!

    @Hudson Morgan

    Xtina >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gaga

    U will Deal!

  84. madamextina May 18, 2011

EVERYONE XTINA AND CEE LO ARE DROPPING THEOR.DUET THAT NEVER MADE IT.ON.BURLESQUE OST FRIDAY.MAY 20TH IM.SO HAPPY CANY WAIT TUE.SONG IS NASTY.

  85. Chrystal June 15, 2011

Each one of Christina’s albums reflects her life at each momnt. Her debut was a stepping stone to get in the industry. Stripped was about her childhood and things she went through during the debut era. Back to Basics was about dating/Marrying jordan and contronting her father for his nasty interview with the Inquierer months before the album dropped. Bionic is about her letting down her guard and just having fun. Max was the inspiration for that. No seriopusness involved.

  86. Chrystal June 15, 2011

Christina doesn’t care what the critics have to say about her. She’s sleeping good every night and making money while the haters staying presses as usual. Christina was never stated to be the best singer in the world. She made the list because her vocal chops surpassed her other pop contenders during her debut era. She has shown diversatility with her voice. She can sing to any style of music.
