Britney And Rihanna Face Criticism From Parents Television Council

Published: Wednesday 25th May 2011 by David

For some, it was the ‘singing’ or lack of it that stood out as the most notable part of the Rihanna and Britney Spears’Billboard Music Award performance. However, it was the pair’s raunchiness that the Parents Television Council have come out against, labeling the showing as a “profanity laced S&M sex show”.

Find out more below…

Via Ace Showbiz:

“I cannot imagine what would possibly lead the ABC television network to air a profanity-laced, S&M sex show on primetime broadcast television’, the President of the PTC explained going onto say, ‘It certainly has no place at 8:00 p.m. on the publicly-owned broadcast airwaves, the overtly sexualized performance by Rihanna and Britney Spears was no accident but a deliberate effort to target teens with images and lyrics that glamorize whips, chains and other sexual fantasies’

The remix, which  reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, is the first time the pair have collaborated together. It faced little controversy (beyond being awful) when it debuted last month. However, clearly some feel that the the visual interpretation of the song was a step too far on an event billed as a family show. Do you agree?

Britney is a joke in the music industry. She can’t sing! She can’t dance! She hardly write songs (except Everytime and Me against music of which she co-wrote). Britney is a complete mess.

i think they just trying to make something up, about the ”S&M” song again, just like they did about the video. (Which i think the video was not that bad). but i dont see why you keep make posted of rihanna on your website and its plan as to see you do not like her and her music. i think you all just haters, i bet any money in the world that you could not do any better.

And Britney looked like a 40 yr old man that belonged on Ru Paul Drag Race

  9. Ariana May 25, 2011

Both Britney & Rihanna looked like s**** but the so called “Parents Television Council” are a bunch of double standards hypocrites.
People should understand singers/musicians aren’t role models; parents are the only ones who must be good examples for their children and they should stop delegating such responsibilities to someone else.

There was only one thing that bothered me that night and that was Britney. She should be banned from “singing” for life. B****’s so over.

  10. Blue Kid May 25, 2011

This is nothing new for Rihanna and Ms. Spears, their whole act has been sexual for years, I guess the Parent Television Council doesn’t go to Briney or Rihanna concerts.

When it comes to comparing both artist for as talent they are equal: comparing Britney to the average pop singer in the game she lacks talent all around.

Comparing Rihanna to the average Black pop or R&B artist Rihanna lacks talent all around also,.

But if we compare them to each other, they compliment one another because they both have equally the same amount of talent, for as singing and dancing, both are lazy at time, but can sometime come threw and give a good performance, by their standards.

Both Rihanna and Britney are good at playing the game they both have made money at what the lacking in (talent). I’m not hating I applaud them both.

No shade, this is just my honest opinion.

  11. THE UNDISPUTED QUEEN OF POP May 25, 2011

LMFAO ROFL @ QUEEN B WILL S*** ON UR FAV Britney did look a s***** mess. What the hell happen to her? Must have been all that coke, meth, crack, speed and all them other drugs she been doing over the years. That b**** looked horrible. She did look like one of those drag queens from Rupaul show. 15. Blue Kid May 25, 2011

I agree Britney is barely moving, it’s got to be the drugs!!!! I agree Britney needs to throw in the tile.

Rihanna gets tired quick in her performance and lacks stage presents.

Rihanna is the Black Britney Spears, for as singing and dancing she is not kosher in the black community.

Whether u guys want to admit it or not Rihanna is a role model. So many kids look up to her, from buying her songs a million times to purchasing every magazine cover shes on. Her behavior lately is starting to convince me Britney is not the only one on drugs, so is Rihanna.

  19. MISHKA May 25, 2011

    Oh puh-lease

The song itself and the music video have been facing criticism , there’s nothing new there.

What rightfully deserves criticism is their sh%tty performance especially Britney the Zombie.

Zombney made me feel sorry for Rihanna actually *shocker*, who wasn’t brilliant but who was at least trying with what she got, as usual.

This remind me of what Adam Lambert did on the AMA: shock value then criticism yet the material was horrible in the first place.

I’m not sure what these people expected from an awards show geared toward adults or at least young adults. It’s not the Kids Choice Awards on Nickelodeon. Smh.

    “profanity laced S&M s** show”.

I’m with the Parents Television Council and I rarely agree with them on anything! The Rihanna and Britney s** show was quite unnecessary! Rihanna would have done better “singing” CKB and Britney actually singing her song TTWE. I don’t know why anyone in their right mind would think that “performance” was appropriate @ 8pm on a Sunday?!

  33. mobwife May 25, 2011

“…….an event billed as a family show”

LMAO really is that what is was billed as being…LOL! I guess the jokes on the rest of America! In addition to criticiszing these two they should also say something about Ke$ha (psss… why is she famous again?) running around in a “ONESY” with a furry vest and combat boots! Also, what whatever Nicki Minaj & CO. were wearing and doing!!

Oh yeah the “king of domestic violence”…..”serial beater” and drug addict EMINEM receiving 6 awards should have been mentioned by this and other groups!! If it were somone else, you know their one fight would have been mentioned!!

  34. kayb33 May 25, 2011

I mean what do they seriously expect? The awards aren’t geared towards kids and this performance is the least true parents should be concerned about. I’m 23 and I don’t have kids but I have an 11 yr old sister so I know what’s shown on tv. American Idol isn’t a family oriented show. A lot of those performances on their are questionable as well as a lot of commentary especially from Ryan Seacrest and Steven Tyler. The same goes for Dancing with the stars. Bruno says whatever comes to mind and most of the dancing is s***! I don’t understand why these committees pick and choose who they want to scrutinize when the entire entertainment industry is overly sexualized nowadays. Another one is Glee, who these kids are crazy over yet it promotes s**, homosexuality, underage drinking, etc. Most of the shows on Disney and Nick have MANY subliminal messages and and scripts that the average child should not be watching. Maybe these “parents” should just completely turn the television off if they are so concerned about what their kids are being exposed to. Maybe they should talk to their kids, counsel them, and instill the difference between right and wrong in them instead of wanting celebrities to raise them.

That crap that it takes a village to raise a child went out the window A LONG time ago. Society has changed. I, for one, wouldn’t want some of these jackasses in my so called “village” trying to teach my children anything. Get it together people. It starts at home. If your child knows right from wrong you don’t have to worry about what they see on t.v. or what they see and hear at school. You aren’t going to be able to constantly shelter them from the “bad” because there is going to be a time when they aren’t under your eye, but you have to trust in them that you taught them well enough to know. I didn’t watch rated r movies, watch mtv, bet, the simpsons, and any award shows. In fact, around the time award shows aired I was in bed because my parents already knew what was up. Outside of channels that are catered to children, and even those are questionable, there is NOTHING on television for a small child.

The term role model is overrated. You, as parents, be your childs role model. I wouldn’t dare want my child to be inspired by Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, etc. It’s definitely ok for your child to aspire to be a singer, but to be a scantily dressed woman gyrating across the stage is a different story. A woman can be powerful without all of the s*** antics and catchy lyrics. Gain power and money by making a difference and standing for something. See Maya Angelou, Cicily Tyson, Oprah, and I want to say Michelle Obama but I can’t believe she considers Beyonce a positive role model.

This isn’t hate. I love Rihanna, big fan, but the chick isn’t a role model. Kids shouldn’t be listening to her. She’s just doing her and cashing her checks. The parenting is left up to us because at the end of the day celebrities are only human.

    Rant done.

  35. lola May 25, 2011

KAYB33 and the rest of a you STUPID STANS…

Rihanna’s stupid ass admitted that she WAS A ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG GIRLS ON THAT 20/20 INTERVIEW! Why the hell do you stans always make excuses for this fake ass b****?! This is another thing that proves that she’s a phony and doesn’t care about her fans. I wish people would stop saying that these singers aren’t role models WHEN THEY F****** ARE FOR YOUNG KIDS AND TEENS WHO WANT TO BE SINGERS!!!!

How the hell can you want to be a singer or listen to music without seeing or knowing about performances like these? Lady Gaga just had pics on the internet that showed her holding a baby in her hand with a bra and panties on at her CD signing. Point blank, none of these whores and b****** should be selling s**! I’m 21 and I don’t want to see that s***! It’s not just for kids, but for everyone. So because we’re adults, we should want to see two s**** masturbating and getting nasty onstage? It was inappropriate for all ages!

Plus, neither of them can sing or dance!

  36. SEBSEB May 25, 2011

LOOOOL the PTC need to SIT!
The song is CALLED S&M.. U want them to stand there with the microphone stand?
And erm.. If you don’t want children to watch it.. Change the channel maybe? Yeah. That would be wise.

  37. omzir May 25, 2011

oh wow awesome! this is so symbolic of their position in the music industry with the chains, just two chained up whores who are slaves of the music industry… oh no big deal. hate them both they suck and they suck.

  38. omzir May 25, 2011

i’m not surprised if Rihanna & Britney Spears work for the devil…

  39. lol May 25, 2011

Agree with the PTC their performance was too much being that the time was at 8:00
BUT why dont they talk about other popstars like BEYONCE,LADY GAGA AND CO FOR THEIR “RAUNCHY NESS”

  40. kayb33 May 25, 2011

First of all, the name calling is a bit immature and uncalled for. On another note, I stan for no one but myself so you can throw stan s*** out the window now.

What ever happened to kids aspiring to be doctors, lawyers, teachers, and astronauts? Why would they want to be Beyonce, Rihanna, or Lady GaGa? When I do have kids, they will be taught that they can be whatever they dream to be, but they should always remember to stay true to themselves. No one should want to be like anyone. That’s what’s wrong with the world today or at least one of the things. As I stated before, it starts with teaching your kids right from wrong. If you do this maybe you won’t have to worry about them shaking their asses across the stage if they did reach the goal of being a famous singer.

I’m not making excuses for anyone. It’s the truth. Maybe there are accounts of her saying she’s a role model, but there are also accounts saying she doesn’t like the term and just wishes everyone should be themselves. I agree with the lather. These celebrities are in the spotlight on a constant basis and their every move and action is criticized. Who the hell are we to say anything when the only thing they are doing is being themselves? In my eyes, none of these celebrities can win because someone is always going to have something negative to say. These people do sing about s** just as rappers rap about s**, drugs, and money. There are those out there trying to send positive messages, but those aren’t the ones you’re. Going to find on mainstream television. The truth hurts. You’re not going to please everyone. If you don’t like it, change the channel. It isn’t that hard.

As far as Lady GaGa goes, the parent is just as much the blame. Why would you allow her to hold your baby in that attire? Why were kids at her signing anyway?

Rihanna, Beyonce, or Lady GaGa don’t have kids and its not their jobs to babysit yours. Some of the same ones complaining are probably the same ones wearing even less clothes and going to the club every weekend just to shake their asses on some random guy.

People are so hypocritical. As adults, don’t kids look up to all of us?

  41. Bey’knight May 25, 2011

Well if u aint in the news for a great performace, u may as well be in it for somn else

To d person who brought up gaga, gaga wasnt on tv besides its a diff story when u transport urself over to her signing session

I think rih is reli pushin it too far, getting pigheaded. Even madonna reached a brink durin erotica era n toned it down for bedtime stories era

  42. True Blue May 25, 2011

    @ Ariana:

I came here to say the exact same thing, thank you. I’m sick and tired of people blaming their parental failures on celebrities. There’s a ton of kids who turn out perfectly well-adjusted who grow up with all of this in the media, so clearly the problem isn’t in celebrities being “bad role models”. Such an easy cop-out for people who can’t think for themselves.

Anyways, didn’t ABC viewers also famously raise a stink with Adam Lambert when he performed at the AMAs?

Rihanna: OK Britney, it’s showtime! Let’s go out there and show these b****** how it’s done.

Britney: Naa. I’m tired. I think I’ll take a pass. You go get um Riri.

Rihanna: WTF! B****! You better get yo ass up and hit this stage with me. We been practicing all night long for a whole week. You can’t do this to me Britney. Please! You’ll be awesome!

Britney: F*** off Riri. I’ve been doing this s*** since I was eight years old. I’ve had enough of this ho ass game. Now you get your cute little ass out there and give um what they want. They’re gonna love you Riri.

Rihanna runs to J Z’s dressing room and beats frantically on the door. J Z opens.
JZ and Beyonce and the producers are talking bussiness.

    JZ: What’s up Riri

Rihanna: J you gotta do something. Britney’s in her dressing room and won’t come out. Says she’s through with this ho ass game.

JZ: Ok Riri, Tell Britney that i”ll get the producers to give an extra $500,000.

Beyonce: WTF J? What did I just hear you say? Ah hell no!

JZ: Now just wait a minute baby. Calm down. Riri, go tell Britney that the producers will give her another half a million.

Rihanna runs back to Britney’s dressing room.

Rihanna: Britney, the producers say they’ll give you 500,000 more to do the show. Come on baby let’s do this. The crowd is waiting.

The crowd outside is screaming for Britney: Britney! Briney! Rihanna! Britney!

Britney: F***! Ahh man! OK I’ll do it. But during the performance you gotta kiss me like Modonna did back in the day. When we kiss that means I’m passing the batton to you. You can be the new Queen of Pop now Riri. Ok let’s show um how it’s done Ri . Let’s hit um baby, one more time.

This devilish ceremony (the Kiss) has happen so many times at the award shows. Call passing the legacy. Britney now passing her stiff , no talent legacy on to Rihanna. In reality there was nothing to pass on, Rihanna has already reach Britney Spears legacy, for as talent, what is next for Rihanna maybe a number one album???? That is the only thing Rihanna doesn’t have, but she sure got the number one hits.

“LOUD” is about as good as “GGGB” the word is can she top her latest album??
Rihanna is just as lazy as Britney Spears for as concerts and performance, Britney with her auto tune fake singing and Rihanna getting bored of her on songs in the middle and mind wondering off doing her performances isn’t much to be desired.

Britney needs to just sit and raise her children and Rihanna needs to rest for a minute like her role model Beyonce. Rihanna needs to take a break and rediscover her self.

  49. KoreanDream May 25, 2011

The song was #1, was played constantly on the radio, and was #1 on iTunes (remix), and in the top 10 for months (original). Plus the video racked up 26 million views. I’m certain that teenagers are the ones buying and requesting the song and watching its video, so it’s not like the performance was shocking or new for them. The performance was actually G-rated compared to the video.

I think it’s ridiculous that they don’t hold Rihanna and Britney Spears and the rest of the these so called ‘singers’ to the same standard. They drug the whole wardrobe malfunction thing on for nearly ten years and fines were served. Janet paid a huge price for that and I’m not talking about financially, her career has not been the same. And I don’t feel that this is any different. It’s really getting out of control.
