It appears last night’s nominees announcement for the BET Awards 2011 has left more than just select fans disgruntled. For, moments after the credits rolled on the 106 & Park announcement special, rapper Trina took to Twitter to let her feelings be known.
The ‘Diamond Princess’ was omitted from the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist category in favour of Nicki Minaj, Diamond, LoLa Monroe, and Master P’s daughter Cymphonique. This despite releasing an album last year, and two mixtapes since then.

And, unlike a number of her contemporaries, the rapper has yet to delete the tweet. Only time will tell if her ‘colourful’ response will drive her displeasure home or further distance her from what is, nomination or not, a major platform for her.
No word yet from fellow overlooked femcee Lil Kim – although we’re sure it’s coming. For, the network failed to pay homage to her Pay Pal chart success.

Trina should have been nominated. Her last album was great. I can listen to it all the way through and I like every track. Look at the Amazon reviews. Nicki’s album has a couple decent tracks but most of the album was garbage. It is all about being fair and BET straight up ignored her.

yup..BET doesn’t select the nominees or the winners. There is a master list of potential nominees sent to a group of industry leaders who vote on who they believe should be the final nominees. Same way MOST awards shows handle the nomination process. Once the nominees are set, ballots are sent to the voting board, which is comprised of other industry leaders and fans. Now, given BET has a great relationship with Keyshia, don’t you think there would be a strong desire to have her rack up on awards? Everything isn’t a conspiracy 😉

Trina released a CD last year? I saw and heard a few awful cuts from her mixtape feat. on this site a few weeks ago but that’s it! Perhaps she didn’t create enough buzz around her name per CD sells and radio airplay as oppose to the other nominees! Everyone knows that Nicki will win (like her or not), Diamond, actuall have released songs and was featured on a few singles that were heard. I have never heard of either LoLa Monroe, or Master P’s daughter Cymphonique. The Master P/ Lil Romeo (DWTS) connection more than likely made this nom possible. In any event, THE FIELD HAS BEEN WIDE-OPEN ITS TRINA’S FAULT THAT SHE HAS NO TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF IT!!!
