Nicola Roberts Gives 1st Performance ‘Beat of My Drum’

Published: Sunday 19th Jun 2011 by Sam

With Cheryl Cole on a hiatus and Nadine Coyle hoping we forget her Tesco fiasco, it’s Girl Aloud’s Nicola Roberts turn to show and prove.

Hoping to do just that, the quirky starlet took to the T4 stage to give the first televised performance of her debut single ‘Beat of My Drum’. Let’s just say the song’s couldn’t be anymore ironic…

Lord…

    She reminds me of Rihanna. Has good music, looks good in her outfit and CAN’T DANCE!

  2. BeyStanBabygirl June 19, 2011

    If that was my song… I would be going off!! *Looks for Beyonce on YouTube*

  3. Miles June 19, 2011

    This performance was obviously NOT about dancing at all so comments about her “dancing” seem kind of ridiculous. I thought she did a pretty good job. She sounded good and gave a nice performance to a crazy good song! She has already said she was super nervous to perform solo without her GA bandmates (which is kind of sweet) and I’m looking forward to seeing bigger and bolder performances from her now that she’s gotten the initial one done and out of the way. Go Nicola!

    Chiilllleeeeee what in the HELL was that? Lemme get me a plane ticket to the UK immediately they let anyone be stars over there. This chick with the brick saw face Cheryl Cole JLSissies susan boil I mean lord … Where do I sign up. If that’s all it takes sign me up!!

    The stuff that comes out the UK is a ki ki to me.

  5. Joanne June 19, 2011

    To all those dissing the talent coming out of the UK, all I gotta say to you is U2, Coldplay, The Beatles, Leona Lewis, Estelle, Jay Sean, Natasha Beddingfield, Adele (who is still taking over your charts) Chipmunk, Jessie J (who is about to take over your charts), Alexandra Burke, Rusko is taking over your Dubstep and Drum and Bass seen and that’s just off the top of my head. Do you need me to continue? No? Then sit down!

  6. Jazmine June 19, 2011

    Yes brits have very low requirements
    You dont have to look good , be smart , or have an ounce of dicernable talent to become a star over there .

  7. xxx June 19, 2011

    brits have low requirement?

    ok, name me one us act (current and succesfull), who can sing! I’m waiting…

    and don’t come with the only one who can…we all know who it is…

  8. YOOSONDALOOSE June 19, 2011

    @ ‘XXX’ Adele LOL.
    And she is not very good performer!

  9. Ihavetheclap June 19, 2011

    Joanne the only people you should have mentioned are U2 coldplay and the beatles. Legends. From the old school. We r talkig about the new batch of “talent”.

    Alexandra( basically American idol trash will be on where r they now in 5 yrs) J sean( who) Chipmunk(? Chile who) leona (who flopped) rusko(never heard of it) Jessie j.

    Chile. Like I said. The stuff the British public puts on a pedestal would never truly make it in the US unless they r grinding like hell.

    The only one u mentioned who is actually talented is Adele crispy Kreme eating ass. And not off her first record. She had to grind it out.

    I think most would agree u all eat up whateve is being served. The US market is a bit more fickle.

  10. hunni2nice June 19, 2011

    adele is beating everyones fave and don’t need to be naked to do it

  11. WonderLand19 June 19, 2011

    USA have low standards, RIHANNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! USA swagger jack our style. Euro music/dub step.

  12. Ihavetheclap June 19, 2011

    Out of all that new talent u named I wouldn’t pay a dime to see any of them perform live. I mean look at this toothpick nicola. I couldnt even enjoy the song i was laughing so hard at how stiff she was and whatever that thing she wAs doing that issupposed to be dancing.

    The shade is her face ain’t even all that beat! At least give me something pretty to look at. She is a MOOSE

  13. Ihavetheclap June 19, 2011

    Wonderland

    The post is about ur British talent boo. Stay on topic.

    Although i will vouch. Yes Rihannold McDonald Is trash. Which is prolly why she is so popular in the UK. Fits right in to my point. You all have low standards. Every post i see with UK talent has me sitting at my computer after watching a performance like -__-

  14. Even.Your.mums.better.than.britney June 19, 2011

    Im
    From
    The Uk, And im gna b real, US talent is best in the world
    On the music front. UK artists (using that word loosely) are so bad and lack talent. Lets just be real now. Adele is the only one flying out flag right now. Peace

  15. Mari (RIP Dwayne McDuffie) June 19, 2011

    “USA have low standards, RIHANNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    @Wonderland

    Rihanna’s not American.

    @Ihavethe clap

    Britney’s playing 10x as many dates in the US than in the UK on Femme Fatale tour. So, what was that about US standards when it comes to live performances?

    @ even.your.mum

    Muse is flying the flag, Marsha Ambrosius is flying the flag, Teenie Tempah’s got a single on top 20/ top 40 radio, Jessie J is smashing here. When Amy Winehouse comes back, she’ll pick up where she left off. Adele isn’t the only one. U.K. artists are holding their own in the States.

    @topic

    I really like this single! I wish it was available on US Itunes.

  16. Ihavetheclap June 19, 2011

    Mari

    U need to remember the Britney u see today was not the Britney that was slaying from 98- wheneve blackout was out. Her performances just recently went to crap but Britney was not to be played with performance wise when she first came out. The reason her tour is selling out is cuz of thr hard work she put in early on. That’s it.

    Say what u want bout her now but STIFFney was everything back in the day. From what I hear her first show in Sacramento was a huge hit people are raving. Of course I’m still waiting on the receipts but I’m hopeful. Lol

  17. Bey’knight June 19, 2011

    Yall can push an artiste to the brink of s******. How many of u are pioneers in your chosen field, assumin u are actually good at some craft.

    Cut the poor girl some slack, its her very 1st solo gig n she chose an ideal platform. Bey isnt d same performer she is now as she was at that VMA ’03

    To damn all UK acts is the ultimate reach, jus cause an act doesnt successfully crossover doesnt mean they’re no good

  18. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN June 19, 2011

    It is rubbish to be fair

  19. I see June 19, 2011

    atleast she sang live unlike britney, cherl cole and more…
    this is her first time going solo…..

    and the U.S VS UK thing, us artists are better but there are some uk artists that are also doing their thing.

  20. Topman June 19, 2011

    Don’t see what’s so bad about it, not every singer has to be in-your-face and full of attitude. Plus it’s her debut

  21. MissImpartial June 19, 2011

    @Ihavetheclap
    There are others like Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Joss Stone, George Micheal, Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones and many others. These are talented people.

    U2 is a Irish band not a Uk band by the way.

    The US artist are not better they are more mainstream that’s it. UK artist are more vocally talented than the US. There are not true vocalist in the US at the moment. The only decent ones are Beyonce, Christina, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood.

  22. Even.Your.mums.better.than.britney June 19, 2011

    Cut the crap about the UK having better vocalist… Lets not get delusional now. Jennifer Hudson… Who are vocally talented in the UK at the moment. And how dare you say Beyonce is the only ‘decent’ one…! You neee to check
    Out Youtube nd view some Live performances e.g. Amrrican idol rehersal. Beyonce
    Is
    Far more than ‘decent’.

    hahahaha

    This wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. She needs work though.

  24. WildChild June 19, 2011

    This performance was not that bad. She’s probably not used to performing alone.

  25. queenBey June 19, 2011

    @Ihavetheclap Well, maybe the UK just worries about the music. And not really the artist. Beyonce is my favorite artist. But i tend to enjoy Rihanna’s songs as of late a bit more then Beyonce’s songs. It has always been my opinion that talent is relative and you like what you like. All the people who say Rihanna, Ke$ha, and Katy Perry is crap still buy their songs and ringtones. Because, they are listening to music. Not praising them…. You like what you like. Rihanna performs terrible 60% of the time. But I cant get enough of her music. That doesn’t mean she is Great in any way. I do enjoy her though.

  26. Kweli69j June 19, 2011

    Couldn’t care less if singers can dance, if the vocals are on point and a solid enough song then its all good…
    Nicola was always one of the better singers in Girls Aloud, thought the performance was good, looking forward to the album…

  27. Kweli69j June 19, 2011

    Really annoys me when people go on about dancing, I mean i don’t know about anyone else but i don’t buy a cd or download a song cos they’re a good dancer

  28. Imgunnacheckuboo June 19, 2011

    Gurl, drink a redbull and get yo’ s*** together!

  29. dave June 19, 2011

    @MISSIMPARTIAL

    The UK has better vocalists??? name 8, because i sure as hell cant.

    The US has obviously beyonce, Jennifer hudson, kelly rowland, mariah carey, tank, christina aguilera, chris brown (who is ALSO a performer), usher can sing his ass off, brandy, jojo, toni braxton, trey songz, kelly clarkson, carrie underwood, idina menzel, kristen chenoweth, chaka khan, bruno mars, just to name a few. and even tho some of them may not be at the top of the charts, they are STILL leagues ahead of most of the singers coming out of the UK.

  30. Dragon June 19, 2011

    lol it’s always so hilarious when people try to knock the US talent and put UK acts above them. The UK used to have alot of credible artist but that was back in the stones ages with the Beatles, George Michael, U2 (who are Irish) etc.
    As of right now, Adele and Jessie J and a couple others are the only ones waving the f** of talent and when it comes to Adele she’s just the flavor of the month. She’ll fade away after this album just like Duffy, Amy, James Blunt, Spice Girls and all the other British acts who world salivates over for whenever America decides to pay attention to them.
    Like someone said above, talent is relative but everyone damn well knows some of the greatest singers/performers in Music are from the US.

    With regards to this perofrmance, *facepalm* The only thing more overrated than her is the group she came from. 5 of the most average/boring women put in a group. Her and Nadine have decent voices tho.
    She’s supposed to be PERFORMING here and yes, that includes some dancing.
    She may be shy or whatever but anyone could’ve done this performance.

  31. Dragon June 19, 2011

    lol f** of talent.
    that should say *FLAG of talent up there.

  32. MissImpartial June 19, 2011

    @dave
    Joss Stone, Duffy, Adele, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Shirley Bassey, Sade, Amy Winehouse, Florence from Florence and the Machines, Rebecca from Xfactor.
    Chart success does not equal talent. And I would not put Chris Brown as a vocalist.

  33. FameKills June 19, 2011

    yea this wasnt that great at all & i actually like this song.
    *waits for Jessie J to blow up*

  34. LENNI June 21, 2011

    Reading all these comments on here, I have to say that all of you are right (well, most). I’m from the UK and honestly most artists in my ipod derive from American talent. With that said, people must not forget that bad talent is everywhere. I do agree that the UK have a lower acceptance rate as to what they regard as talent. However, Americans must acknowledge that some UK record companies and artists are influenced by the music which has derived from America and their goal is to replicate that to the UK market. That is why probably many Americans on here do not like or understand why Britain like some artists.

    In my opinion Nicola Roberts is not great. She is okay for the child and pre-t*** girls but for matured listeners obviously not. That is something to think about. Music is targeted to a certain demographic. If you don’t like it then it’s probably because it is not meant for you.

    Like most have said, those British artists who have broken into the American market are the best that Britain has to offer. There are many UK talented artists and musicians which go under the radar and are not being signed by record companies because they believe that they do not know how to market them successfully in the UK. They then go on the American market where they can make the music they want and be successful. Look at Marsha Ambrosius. I know she’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but she’s making a success of herself.
