With the 10th anniversary of her untimely death approaching (August 25th), BET took to Twitter yesterday to announce plans to honor late R&B diva Aaliyah
As Miss Haughton’s influence was widespread across multiple genres of the industry (and name is still in regular mention against today’s top divas), it is only fitting the ‘More Than a Woman’ singer be remembered with a tribute. The details of the ‘tribute special’ have yet to be revealed, but as ever, keep it locked to That Grape Juice for more on this story as it develops.

Wish someone would make a major film about Aaliyah’s life and untimely passing like La Bamba was made for Ritchie Valens who died the same way. I just hope they don’t take as long, Valens died in 1959 but the movie didn’t come out until 1987. I remember watching that movie back then and not knowing who Valens was or that he died so the sad ending was shocking. Aaliyah deserves a movie also, her career was on the rise and her death was so sudden and unexpected.
I hope they get real artist to tribute her such as Brandy and Monica who are both from her era, Missy , Ginuwine, Timberland…..Not Rihanna, Lady Gaga, or any other R&B lacking ass artist….

While I’m glad that a tribute will be done for Aaliyah, I’m giving BET the major side eye. They are known to f*** things up so badly (see first Michael Jackson tribute on BET awards,etc.).
I really really hope the end result will at least be decent. You just never know with BET.
I’m glad they are doing that. I don’t like how aaliyah has been ignored by the media and michael jackson continues to get praised. Even tho he was a genius but aaliyah deserves credit too. So, I’m happy for that.

Awwww! I seriously cannot believe it’s been 10 years. I was hoping BET was gonna do something like this! I just hope it’s a REAL tribute & not some sloppy ass one like they did for MJ back on 2009. I hope it won’t be to sad & more of celebration of her life & her music. I really want these youngins who don’t know who she was to get the opportunity to see how special she was and why she is still so adored so many years after her death.
I can definitely see Ciara being a part of it. We know all know she can’t sing, but as a dancer she is the closest thing to Aaliyah. I’m sure Missy, Timbaland, Genuine & that whole crew will be apart of it as well. I would also love to see her brother and family take part too.

She was so happy to be next to one of her idols and said one of her first albums she bought was Karma Chameleon. She was always on point with cds, clothes, hair, videos, etc. Her last cd was classic and if she lived, man she would’ve been elevated to the next level. RIP Aaliyah.

I still remember that Sunday morning on my way to church when my mom told my siblings and I that Aaliyah died in a plan crash. I was 10 and I had heard about her, but not really fan. I avoided her music for a long time because I didn’t want to become attached to a dead woman. But I stan for Baby Girl now. I love her music! Listening to her got me into Monica and Brandy. Now I’m all about 90s R&B. I hope Destiny’s Child does something. They were neck and neck.

Aalyiah was a very beautiful talented singer and actress. She paved the way for Beyonce, Ciara and Keri Hilson but none of them will be able to fill her shoes I don’t care if Beyonce goes 7 X’s double platium. The thing I loved about Aalyiah is that she could come out in a tight stomach showing shirt and baggy jeans and still look good. These days some of these artists are so infacactuated by being thick that they opt for fake breast implants and booty lifts that it’s ridiculous so ordinary women follow their steps. WHY because all you hear from rappers “red bone”, ‘super thick”, if a women cant love herself for how she is and a man can’t accept it oh well go to the next one.
