Remember Mariah Carey‘s ‘Angel Advocate’? You know, the ill-fated remix album to the chart disaster that was 2009’s ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ which never saw the light of day. Given how everything played out, Ms. Carey will no doubt be hoping all is but a distant memory. Especially with the forthcoming arrival of what is no doubt the most important album of her latter career (after 2 so-so sellers, her commercial relevancy hangs in the balance).
However, any such hopes were dealt somewhat of a blow today after the R. Kelly featured demo for ‘Betcha Gon’ Know (Remix)’ surfaced.

Sigh. For two artists as gifted as Mimi and Kelly, this sure is a snoozer. Yet, then again so was the original, as was the album, and, of course, Mariah’s career for the last few years too (impeccable Christmas album aside).
Echoing earlier sentiments, here’s hoping motherhood has inspired Mariah’s new material. For, despite her musical mishaps in recent years, she is still very much an asset to a talent-starved industry. Hence the sooner she stops making either cookie-cutter rubbish or funeral music such as this, and finds a unique balance between the commercial and age-appropriate, the better. For, at 41, time and this unforgiving industry wait for no one.

The song and its original were one of the best on the album, and most of the songs were good. Mariah will always have the talent and support to continue her successful career, unlike some artists you are trying to push for on this blog.

Her latests efforts were not good but Xmas album was impecable? Man, if that is not a contradiction I don´t know what it is. Sam knows Mariah is one of the best to ever do it but for some strange reason he always throws shade at her. Memoirs is the worst album of her career. It’s basically Dream’s s***** album. She completely adopted his style/let him do everything. There were never other people’s demos and their recycled songs when it came to Mariah Carey except for on this project.

sorry but thats not true, the cd didnt sell anywhere else but the US and like South Korea where platinum in like 10,00 copies, it only shipped 60k in the UK not even sold, none of the singles charted well anywhere outside of obsessed which did ok, so there is no way she sold 1.2 million copies and obsessed only went platinum

Too harsh a review. You are basing your facts on sales on not the quality of the album that was released. Promotion for that album was virtually non-existant, thus making it difficult for high sales. It also came about during a private time for Mariah, where sales took a back seat to her love.

This track has nothing to do with “Angels Advocate”, it is a DEMO which has a completely different sentiment to the original, the whole thing that remains the same is the production. It is not even called “Betcha Gon’ Know” it is being called “I Check” and how you can even call it a “remix” when we only hear Mariah’s vocals for the first five seconds of the song I do not know.

Memoirs was a brilliant album, this version does not touch the Epic original version but Betcha Gonna Know is lyrically one of the funniest tracks i’ve ever heard pure drama, very well written and a great song!

As far as I remember, Mariah didn’t struggle during her 4th album – which was game setting for the risks she took. Her 4th album stayed at number 1 for 6 weeks & spawned 3 number 1s, one of which holds the longest weeks at number 1.
