Moments ago, Leona Lewis‘ latest single ‘Collide’ surfaced online. Lifted from her upcoming album which is set for a November release, a visual for the song is expected in coming weeks.

Whilst this release is a far and brave cry from the Contemporary Pop Ballad sound she spent years at the heart of, ‘Collide’ unfortunately sees Ms. Lewis land on creative ground that she is possibly not suited for.
For despite the easy to learn melody and its unimposing production value, one cannot help but to assume that this song is a vague attempt to capitalize on the Electro Dance craze that has swept the charts.
The far younger and inexperienced sister of Katy Perry‘s ‘Firework’, ‘Collide’s lyrics may be regarded by some as straight to the point, whilst to others shamelessly basic.
Here’s to hoping it’s follow up single does more to aid her upcoming LP which many have high hopes for.

basic. its ok…nothing special, if she had a personality it might make sense, but she cant dance and is a very dull performer, not sure how she would carry this songs off and make it a hit?….

Awful shes better than this, the song is really bad to me, she needs to stick to the ballads, also I hate her new look that hair is way too harsh for her face and its obvious that shes had a nose job, another one sucked up in the Hollywood world shame really I perfered the old Leona

She is really taking the positive response of “Out of My Head” from Echo and trying to capitalize on it. I hope the album features more soulful ballads though.

I actually love it. It took a couple listens but I think it really suits her vocals. And her releasing another ballad just wouldn’t have worked tbh. This song is already getting it’s first US Spin on Kiss FM Today, which is great for someone who hasn’t had a hit here in 3 years.
I’m sure she’ll have ballads and different types of song for the rest of the album.
And it’s getting a great response for the general public. The afro-jack remix is SICK too.

There is no evolution there.This sounds similar to ‘Out Of My Head’ and it wouldn’t sound out of place in ‘Spirit’.It falls short on every single level.I was genuinely excited about her comeback, but calling it underwhelming would be an understatement tbh.It’s rather awful

Her voice is really what brings down the chorus. Her held notes are just blaaah. Like I could actually hear Celine Dion or old Whitney blowing this out of the water since their voices have s much personality as well as power.
And it’s funny that people were saying she would’ve been better suited for ‘Firework’ when in reality it would not have worked at all.
It’s a grower guys, just give it a chance and find Afrojack remix, it’s great. Summer hit!

Even if this song isn’t a hit, which I think it will be; it isnt the end of the world. She can always go back to what she does best for her second song! I think mainly the advertising has to be better. If the wanted can get a number one, then this song can!
well its definitely different different. but what makes it special is the structure of the song is not like any other pop song..its different and refreshing! THANK GOD the vocals r still there even though its not a ballad. i love it actually…although its a song that needs to grow on me more…but i love that its different in an artistic way!

I agree about the song, but at the same time, its not like Katy Perry’s “Firework” was THAT much more “mature & experienced”, in terms of how u described it.
“Firework” saw Katy singing in a similar, corny ass, head-tilting-from-left-to-right, melody in its main verses as this one, but the beat all together was just a bit more exhilarating.

I like it. The vocals, particularly in the chorus, definitely give the song it’s life. If anyone else was singing this it would just be another typical pop, radio, dance track.
I STILL think Leona needs to come harder though. I don’t want her to see the same fate the other X-Factor contestants normally see.. . This album needs to SLAY, period.

Pathetic. Another midtempo balladeer trying to come out with a silly “dance” song for the ADD generation. Even though it’s not like Leona has an audience she’s betraying, but she’s still sad for going this route. It reeks of desperation.

I’m not a Leona fan, but this is her best song. This will definitely be a hit if it gets the right promotion. I prefer the original orchestra version, though.
Um….I really like Leona I love her vocals, but this is quite boring. Even though it is uptempo it’s still just so…blah! Her voice sounds so dull & lifeless. I’m glad she decided to do a new sounds & not a typical ballad like she usually does, but this was really disappointed!
It sucks that someone with a voice like hers can’t find music that suits her sounds & showcases her vocals. She really should be more successful than what she is.

OMG! That sounds like a bunch of noise. WTH is this mess? All she’s doing is yelling at the top of her lungs and this track is confused. It doesn’t know if it wants to be a ballad or up-tempo. It’s time for her to hang it up. I always thought she was an amazing singer and had beautiful, meaning ballads, but now she sucks. She also changed her ways. She used to be so reserved and now she’s reading Madonna’s s** books and getting drunk (something she looked down on). What a damn hypocrite? I liked how reserved and natural she was. It now seems like she’s forcing herself to be like everybody else and you know what, she’s still boring and she’s ugly. She looks like a drag queen.

Eh, I’m really not sure about the song. The beat’s ok but she could still do so much more. It just doesn’t suit her to me. Who knows it might grow on me but I’m not rushing to add it to my itunes any time soon.
