What does Taylor Swift have to do with any of this? This is a Kelly post! I know the Beyonce comparisons are inevitable b/c Kelly was in a group w/her but Taylor has NOTHING to do with Kelly. She’s a country singer for God’s sake. Everyone knows about the domination that country music has had on the industry over the years sales wise because there are just more Country listeners in America period so Country artists don’t have to do a lot of the things that Pop and especially R&B artists have to do. Beyonce’s success is tremendous and very commendable considering she comes from an R&B background. Why compare her to some one who jumped into the largest selling genre of music (country) the way Taylor Swift did. Anyway, as long as you sing about a story or stories people can relate to, it takes very little vocal talent to be a successful country singer. Beyonce is in a much more demanding genre when it comes to establishing longevity and she has been able to successfully do so. Even Rihanna can sing better than most Country artists.
One thing I love about Kelly is her positive and humble personality. If she keeps that before her, she will be just fine. She doesn’t have to blow up on the level of other popular artists to be considered good. As a matter of fact, I find that some of the female artists that doesn’t have as much popularity are the ones that can really blow! People like Melanie Fiona, Chrisette Michele, Teedra Moses, etc. These ladies can sing their asses off, yet they are not extremely popular. All in all though, they still have a loyal fan base. The only place that people are harsh on Kelly at, is here in the United States. She’s large over in Europe. They love her to death over there! So, even if she’s not shown any love here, she will always have the Europeans giving her love. At least, she’s not the type to give up even though she has people coming at her left and right with. She did this album and I’m proud of her. Do your thing Kelly!

JR I agree with you and I understood your point about watching an album grow and not peak too fast. I’ve seen many artist say this. In my opinion no Kelly is no Whitney Houston. Whitney is one of those singers that will never be replaced BY ANYONE. She has set standards, many artist look up to her and many wanted to sing like her including Kelly.
Kelly Rowland’s album to me is EXCELLENT. It was a breathe of fresh air for me when considering her trying to build her fan base in the US. Keep in mind when she was singing those albums that had more meaning, that had excllent lyrical content (Ms. Kelly & Simply Deep) nobody wanted to pay attention. Now she did what the others did shed a lil clothing and received some recognition. I think her label and management dropped the ball on this one. Her product was there, her passion seems to be there but was not displayed in her work ethic. She should have been everywhere and on everything. Also keep in mind I am BIG KELLY fan I truly am but right is right. Just like I was disappointed in Beyonce’s promotion I was in Kelly’s. For Beyonce to be such a household name I’m shocked at her sales. But I also am a realist. She cannot do the numbers that Whitney, Mariah, Janet, and Michael did in the is era. People do not respect the art anymore and they download music.
I say all this to say, be proud of Kelly for still continuing to push ahead despite her MANY haters. In the end she will be a winner. People are checking for Kelly despite not buying her album like the should have. She still has XFactor & a tour with Chris Brown. Also notice how fans outside of the US are more supportive of her…s*** if I was her I would capitalize on the countries that support me the most. F*** the United States. @CHRIS – You made some interesting points. Both, “Simply Deep” and “Ms Kelly” are good CD’s. Great musical arrangement and lyrics. Especially, “Simply Deep”. But, you’re right, nobody was checking for her. People are always saying that they want artists to have music with substance on their albums, but when artists put that type of music out, nobody appreciates it. For the last few years she’s been doing her thing over in Europe. So, when she cames back to the States to record and release something for people over here to see if she can build a fan base,once again, their not feeling her. Hey, at least we can say she tried right? I understand now why she spends most of her time over in Europe. They appreciate her more. Hell, like you said, if I were Kelly, I’d capitalize on the countries that supports me too. Even if she were over in Europe, I’d still be a fan of hers.

There’s just as many good vocal country singers as rnb singers. It’s good that Miss Kelly had fun during this shoot. I definately agreed with her when she says confidence, knowing your strength, being comfortable, hard work, and having a great team around you pay off in this industry. Miss Kelly comes off very lovely as usual. She’s blessed with this beautiful aura. I hope she holds on tight to these qualities, and she continues to grow amazingly as an artist / entertainer.

I’m a Kelly Rowland supporter for life. I could care less about numbers. As long as she remains the humble, sweet-natured, immensely talented star that she is, I will continue to show her love and BUY her music.
HOWEVER, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Promotion and PROPER MARKETING is key. People can not buy an album that they don’t know about. If I did not search Kelly on the internet I would not know what she’s up to. She’s NEVER had the MAINSTREAM exposure that she needs as a solo artist. NEVER. The buying public that exist outside of the blogosphere have no idea that Kelly has released a new album. Promo the day of your release is not enough to pull big first week numbers, but if Kelly is really serious about stretching this era out and going for long-term sales, I’m with her, and hopefully she and her team will continue to release singles and PROMOTE. Appearances, PERFORMANCES, interviews on nationally syndicated shows, more magazine covers (can we get Essence or Ebony for once?). Kelly is (as she stated) “grown and s***”, therefore, she should be marketing herself to a grown and s*** audience. MATURITY is key. The 106th and park crowd aint gon’ cut it. While there are young people who DO buy albums, there are twice as many who illegally download and think nothing of it when they do. Kelly’s album leaked. I think alot of people (who blog) downloaded the link. The blogosphere may mean free promotion for an artist, but it is also the means by which most artists get jacked.
Kelly just needs to forge ahead. There is such a thing as “slow burn” albums. If Kelly continues to put herself out there she will eventually aqcuire the audience that will actually go to the store or to i-tunes and purchase her album, not to mention her over-seas release in November. One must consider the fact that this draft of the album was only released stateside and Kelly is still building her brand as a solo act in America. Once European and Asian markets get a hold of her music this Fall, record sales will be a non-issue because those continents seem to love Kelly and are huge supporters of her music.
I’m not worried. I purchased my copies like I said I would, and I am thouroughly enjoying the album. I enjoy all of Kelly’s albums. That’s all that matters to me. My review is still pending. I’m waiting for the perfect post to place my review in.
Kelly’s gonna be fine. Bump what they haters say.
And by the way, the week isn’t over yet.

Do people realize she had the number 1 R&B single, 7 weeks straight, still top ten, and album came out this week (with first week sale predictions of 75,000). How does that equal flop. 75,000 for Kelly is decent, I’m sure a few more singles will continue to garner the album the attention it needs.
But definately not a flop…she’s keeping everyone attention right now, radio, blog, tv, and most importantly…the naysayers…Get it Ms. Rowland!
