First off – We’re about a year and a half into this decade. How bout you wait 9 more years and see where Adele is at then before start delegating titles.

Even back then, her role as being the sole dominat force in music for some time to come was apparent from the onset. Proverbially speaking, she ‘took the world by storm’!! Yes, we still had VERY succesfful, chart-topping, mutliplatinum recording artists in the same lane eg: Mya, Amerie, Ashanti, but it was clear that there(at the time) there was only ONE Beyonce!! Hence woman of the decade..though she did share a couple of those years with a certain young bajan*wink. Same concept with Adele, not so much talking in retrospect, but prospectively!!-) Also, you’ve confused me with a nother poster..

What do you mean all of the hype? Adele has been on national tv less than all of the other stars. She went 3x plat with one single, which is still doing amazing. She has yet to release a second single. Going 3x plat is a feat in itself nowadays. She’ still selling very well. Amazing…….. Her first album went platinum, so she has had success before. It will probably be on it’s way to 2x plat here in the states. Gaga is doing really well, she’s nearing 2 million sold in the states.
Also Susan Boyle’s last Xmas album went 2x plat. She is a huge star.

Musicaly, it changes nothing: Adele is just a new voice-singer in the sentimental song departement. Nothing original. Subo was there too. She sells so much because of her demo, but her music is bland, her songs average. She can sell 20 millions album, it will change nothing.

I, fundamentally, understand what you are saying: “just because Adele isn’t walking around in NYC with torn stockings and green wigs doesn’t mean she is not part of the hype machine.”
I get it. However, when thinking about “21,” people are simply responding to the music–that’s all. There are no bells & whistles, no theatrics–only voice. I also don’t believe that Adele has sold herself as the anti-Gaga, or the anti-anything. However, people, music executives, fans, and stans tend to sell her as such. The most important thing to remember is that Adele, herself, never did. We’ve been down this road many times before- Xtina and Pink as the anti-Britney, for only one example.
Again, people are responding to the music on “21.” I liked Adele since “19” and many people feel that “19” is superior to “21.” They are like: “this is what we were trying to tell you about “19” when she went almost unrecognized, commercially, in the States.” Regardless, in either case, it is about the music. She’s not some calculated marketing project that people are responding to b/c some marketing campaign told us to like her (see Justin Bieber).
Adele is simply dope.
People can twist this however they want too. Adele cannot be messed with, her albums are solid. There is not 1 song that I skip on that Album, she delivers on every song, and so far, she has only really released two of the songs, we haven’t even gotten to the good stuff, as she continues to release, the album will continue to stay at the top. Let’s not try to take away her credit, it is what it is, she is a great artist and she is consistent. 19 was also a very awesome album, every single song. We need to support great artist. Stop the comparisons, there are no comparisons. Do you know how hard it is to sell 3 plus million CD’s in this day and age? It says a hell of a lot. I just don’t understand why it is so hard for people to give credit where credit is due.

I remember that quote when Adele said that she makes “music for ears, not music for eyes.” She said this because people are CONSTANTLY in her face about how PHYSICALLY different she looks from her contemporaries. She didn’t name Perry nor Gaga. That’s what WE do- NAME.
Adele admires many traditionally beautifully pop artists– see Beyonce. She LOVES Beyonce and Beyonce LOVES her. It’s not about that. But the record executive (Richard Russell), like i said before, will absolutely position Adele as the anti-aritist.
If you don’t like Adele-cool. Her and Susan Boyle, musically, have NOTHING in common but I understand the comparison. However, Adele simply makes good music.
By the way, I love Gaga. With “Born This Way,” she has produced her finest music to date- “Heavy Metal Lover” being my FAVORITE Gaga song ever. This is not about discounting Gaga in order to appreciate the great talent of Adele.

Adele has already been around for three years, and unlike Susan Boyle, her “hype” isn’t being a physically unattractive middle-aged woman who happens to sing, and therefore only gets by on being a novelty. She actually makes great music that people respond to and that will ensure that she’ll stay around for a hell of a lot longer than just the next two years. Original music that she writes. She’s not a cover artist like Susan. It’s pretty obvious that you’re threatened because Adele is a force both critically and commercially. Your fave on the other hand, is nothing without her numbers. Im proud of Adele, that chic has me hooked. The album 21 is crazy. I love it from beginning to end. She is great all around. This shows that people still buy albums! Kudos to you Adele!
Adele can sing alright but it’s a FACT that record labels Inflate YouTube views, sale numbers and buy out large sums of stock. It was done with The Beatles, it was done with Nirvana, and it’s done today. If you believe she’s as young as the label says, you’re nuts. She and Amy Winehouse were classmates. Amy was 27.
