Joining Madonna and Janet to become as synonymous with ‘epic’ music videos as Prince was with interchangeable lead singers in the 80s.
An icon of an era where the premiere of a music video was just as anticipated as a sell out tour, Britney Spears was undeniably as integral to MTV’s success as it was to hers.
However, recent years have seen the ‘Toxic‘ entertainer unable to live up to both the creative and commercial highs that made her the icon many agree that she is today.
So we want to know….
Is Britney Spears really worthy of an MTV Tribute?

Putting what happened in 2007 aside, the last few years have seen Britney Spears go from being her only real competition to having to fall in commercial and critical rank with the likes of Katy Perry, Rihanna and Ke$ha.
Her sound no longer groundbreakingly Pop forward (most likely attributed to the fact that her executive producers also work for every other Pop tart craving chart glory), she is no longer the Music Video Empress.
That role has now been snatched by one of Spear’s former writers.
Lady GaGa.
Who now seems to have put aside any issues she had with Ms Spears after aiming several indirect comments at the mother of two for her habitual lip syncing, another criticism anyone against her MTV tribute may use to defend their point.
Now heavily anticipated, the VMA’s have always known how to draw in viewers and it is worth wondering if their honouring of Britney is really motivated by its appreciation for her work, or for the benefit of ratings.
Either way, we here at That Grape Juice HQ are always eager to see exactly what MTV has up its sleeve.

I have always tried to like Britney, but I can’t. There’s no doubt, she has broken records and she is one of the most popular Pop-singers in our time (I respect that), but in my eyes she doesn’t deserve a tribute. Like I mentioned she did a lot, but her effort and her talent is not enough for a tribute.

Britney has had very much succes in her carrier! Singles and albums who sold very good..
We can say what we want, but we cant deny that! She has recieved very much awards and i like her. Because its Britney you know. She has been through a lot, also with the press and her personal life.
We also cant deny, that since the era BLACKOUT! the succes was not like before.
Also she dances less, and playbacks. Thats why I respect her less as an artist like I did before.( But I still like her though. )
I thinks that a tribute is OK. Only because of her first albums, because she is Britney and she still sells good (not like before, but it still works). Her name only deserves a tribute. As far as singing that is interpretive .Does having a small vocal range mean you cant sing ? uh no SADE and Billy Holiday dont have large vocal ranges but they are regarded as vocal legends. What Matter is the quality of the songs you sing, Britney has quality songs her music like im Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman (which talked about growing up and being in that transition stage that all women in history can relate to) as well as “overprotected” (talked about Britney living a too guarded life )
in fact most of Brineys catologe actually consists of relationships and the songs are relatable only until recently did music take this “clubbin” route you have LADY GAGA to thank for that . Well….I used be a Britney fan, ten years ago when I was 14. As I’ve grown up I’ve realised how truly untalented and how much of a fad she really is. Sure her music is catchy and she has produced a lot of hits, but I don’t know anyone (who isn’t delusional) that considers her an actual ‘artist’. She was just a pop sensation who was hot at one time and has since lost her appeal. Yes she may have sold millions, performed with legends, and be one of the most successful female artist of her generation but I think anyone with a face can see she is far from the artist she once was!
That being said this is the VMA’s, not the Grammy’s. In the early 2000’s to now the MTV audience has been a huge part of her career. In he prime Britney had a lot of her best moments & performances at the VMA’s. Her performance with the snake, the performance where her & Madonna kissed, and of course her most disasterous performance back in 2008. She has brung the VMA’s a lot of so it would be fitting for the VMA’s to do a tribute to her. I also think they are doing this to get a buzz & help with ratings.
So she can have her lil VMA tribute. It will be a reminder of the artist she USED to be. Let’s hope she won’t per

I’m going to go ahead and say that I’ve always prefered Aguilera to Spears from the beginning, but there’s no denying that Britney has also done great things and was, I say WAS a good dancer back in the days. She still releases good songs even though nowadays her performances are mediocre, but there’s no denying that she has marked the industry, and probably will someday continue doing so, comebacks are always possible. Having Iconic songs,albums,videos,tours…you name it. (Even though she has no real talent) She still managed to be in the top for the late 90’s and early ’00. So Britney does deserve a tribute, but I just think not before Beyonce
Beyonce who has been in the Game longer, having just as a great impact in Pop Culture if not even more. She ruled when in DC3 and has been on fire ever since she went solo. With iconic songs, albums, videos and tours(including DC) She is much more worthy of a Tribute. For she also has Talent
Now GaGa and Adele. First of all Adele hasn’t even had much of an impact in Pop Culture(but I don’t think she strives for that either) and well Gaga May be on her 4th album already in less than 5 years, but she still has something to prove. Will she be able to stay relevant for years to come or is she just the “hot” thing right now. only time will tell.These 2 woman have real talent. But it’s too early in their careers to be doing such a tribute. I personally believe Gaga and Adele will mark their spot in Pop Culture, just like Beyonce and Britney Have already done so.
