Kelly Rowland Chats With Wall Street Journal

Published: Thursday 18th Aug 2011 by Rashad

Still heavy on the promo trail for her 3rd studio album ‘Here I Am‘, singer Kelly Rowland was spotted chatting it up with Wall Street Journal.  The ‘When Love Takes Over’ songstress was quizzed on everything from an overview of the industry to her success as a solo star, and beginnings with Destiny’s Child.

Though her interviewers may have their fingers heavy on the repeat button (in terms of questions), Miss Kelly added some interesting tidbits in the interview.  Find out more below:

    Great interview.

  15. Thedimplepuppet August 18, 2011

@YeaBey No I’m still here but how can one continue to support an artist that’s out of sight & continue to promote other people’s s*** except her own. I did my job & purchased the album. I like Kelly but Janet Jackson is the artist I Stan for.

  16. YEABEY WON’T DANCE 4 U August 18, 2011

    @THEDIMPLEPUPPET
It was a rumor actually…Someone on twitter was lying she’s not there….She’s in the UK and she’ll be back to film Lay It On Me next week

  17. jamir21: bey,rih,brit,gaga,nicki # 1 FAN !!!! August 18, 2011

Here is something for Kelly in Norwegian !!
Din fave er en flop !!!!

  18. Holla August 19, 2011

I love that pic! Kelly’s my girl, but I feel like she’s really dropping the ball with this album. The Motivation video came out 4 or 5 months ago, and we’re still waiting for a follow-up. She’s only had 2 televised performances. She says her team knows what they’re doing, and she’s more focused on long term sales as opposed to opening numbers, but it seems like they’ve miscalculated and already missed the boat. I hope I’m wrong though. I’m not even clicking on this video, because I’m over watching interviews. I want to see videos and performances.

  19. Thedimplepuppet August 19, 2011

@Holla I agree with everything you said.
@YeaBey I was replying with your statement about the bandwagon fans. Yeah I also heard that rumor as well about ‘Lay It On Me’ video shoot next week. Which means it won’t premier until mid September S M H.

  20. nice_gurl August 19, 2011

Love Kelly. Can’t wait till she films the Lay It On Me video.

  21. bdaboss August 19, 2011

This was a refreshing interview. This guy asked her questions about moving foreword.

  22. KD August 19, 2011

All that I got from this interview is that Kelly Rowland wants to make as much money as possible…not that I have anything against that Lord knows I want some extra zeroes in my bank account.

  23. diva August 19, 2011

Great interview as usual….wish her all the best as the X factor starts tomorrow and that Hereiam album is fantastic i love it.

  24. BEYONCE HATER August 19, 2011

    SHE SOLD 77,000 ALBUMS FLOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

  25. YOOSONDALOOSE August 19, 2011

Her album didn’t flop, that was good charting and sales for her!
I saw her yesterday at X Factor, she rocked!

  26. Here i am….IS DONE. August 19, 2011

I see this longevity statement as a pattern when they flop

In Ciara’s exact words when her album flopped like kelly’s:-
“When you think about first week [sales] and performance, you don’t really think about that because I’m in this for the long run, … I’m in this to build a brand, I’m in this to one day hopefully be known as a solid touring act. That’s the ultimate goal, and there are so many other factors that you have to put into play when it comes to being an artist. And it allows me to be in a positive place.”

Where is she today? The album hasn’t gone gold till today.

Kelly would suffer the same fate. I strongly doubt X-factor would help her sales bcos it seems as though in the UK they like kelly as a DC member certainly not as a solo star and if they had their way they will fire her from X-factor. They don’t want kelly as a judge.

By the way lay it on me has been dropped by 6 radio stations already. Tounges are saying she might have to have a lilwayne feature on all her songs for al her songs to do well.

  27. tjrae August 19, 2011

    @YOOSONDALOOSE

    HER ALBUM FLOPPED

77,000 is highly dissapointing, y”all should quit it about this being her first album. This is her 3rd. Kelly needs to own up that she is a failure and stop playing victim and can she stop featuring pls.

Can she have a solo hit song.

You will think she gained more fans from her dance music. How can she have a #1 single on the lesser chart for 5 weeks and can’t even get a keri hilson number

  28. Dance August 19, 2011

Her team is just wack and Kelly is not serious…she doesn’t have the drive to be successful….

THIS ALBUM WAS HER BIGGEST FLOP…………

My patience with her is decreasing………Before she knows it, her fans will get tired of waiting and she will eventually lose her fan base…….

    *leaves*

  29. lola August 19, 2011

I can’t believe how bad her album is doing. I hate when stans blame labels when it wasn’t the label’s fault, but I actually do the blame the label because if you look at their history with artists, being on Universal/Motown is a huge mistake! They barely or never market their damn music artists right. A lot of their artists never make it big. With Ciara, Jive put a lot of money and time into Fantasy Ride and released like 3-4 singles and the album ended up selling only 192,000 copies. Not to mention all that money they spent on her recording with A-List producers. So when the singles from basic Instinct flopped hard as hell, they weren’t going to spend a whole lot of money again to promote a predictable flop. If Universal/Motown were smart, they would have had Kelly perform on a day or night once a week, for a few weeks before her album came out, while having her do all of these morning talk shows. Plus, she should have performed “Motivation” in clubs and at fests months ago. I know that the X-Factor interfered with a lot of her promotion, but that’s why she should have done bits and pieces way before her release date.

WSJ: “So Ms. Rowland, you’ve so far, after 3-weeks, moved UNDER 150K units. Matter of fact, “Here I Am” has slipped off the Top-40 Worldwide Music Charts (http://www.mediatraffic.de/albums.htm), is Universal/Republic loosing money by investing in you?”

    KR: “Wanna see my tits?”

WSJ: “MS. ROWLAND, we (The Wall Street Journal) are a serious and long-standing member of the 4th Estate; I BEG YOUR PARDON!

    KR: “Oh, sorry!”

WSJ: *clears throat, regains composure* Ms. Rowland, you’ve never had a Platinum Certified U.S. OTC Retail CD, nor Single. And your “best year” was in 2002 with your-then debut solo effort: “Simply Deep”. And since then, your CDs have returned even less: 2007 1.3-Million Worldwide. What gives?”

KR: “Its Matthew, he hates me!”

WSJ: “Ms. Rolwand, these are SHOCKING allegations you’re now making!!”

KR: “And Beyonce too, they ALL hate me!”

WSJ: “Ms Rowland, may we quote you?”

KR: “SURE!! …Wanna see my tits?”

    WSJ: MS ROWLAND..!!!

    KR: “Oh, sorry.. My bad!!”

WSJ: “Ms. Rowland, your most-recent U.S. Broadcast Late-Night TV performances were pretty-much panned on the Urban Blogs. What would YOU like to now say to that U.S. audience?”

KR: “They don’t like dark-skinned girls and I have a white man (I’d never be caught dead with a black man), so go cop dat “Here I Am”!”

WSJ: “Ms. Rowland, you’ve had marginal success since your, well-over-decade-ago-days as a member of DC. How did you land that gig as a sitting judge/mentor on X-Factor U.K.?”

KR: “I showed Simon my tits!”

WSJ: “GOOD LORD, MS ROWLAND!!!! If you persist I’ll have to terminate this interview..!! I now insist that you conduct yourself in a proper manner!”

    KR: “Oh-oh, my bad!”

WSJ: “Ms. Rowland, some might rightfully question your ability to judge or mentor up-and-coming talent, when you-yourself seem…”marginal” at best! What would you say to said “promising talent” who’ll THEN question your credentials as mentor/judge?”

KR: “I’d hook ’em up with my wig-stylist, make-up artist and publicist!”

WSJ: “But Ms. Rowland, this seems a bit disingenuous, no?”

KR: “Go tell dat to Rihanna!”

WSJ: “Ms. Rowland, with you being unable to..”motivate” your fan-base, which is reflected in the current woeful “Here I Am” returns, some will rightfully question the rational behind having you included on/in CBreezy’s coming “F.A.M.E” tour. That said, how did you managed to get added to that ticket?”

KR: “Oh, when Kerruche wasn’t looking, I flashed him my tits!”

WSJ: “MS ROWLAND, your behavior has been nothing short of an outrage and borders on the scandalous! As a representative/agent of the Wall Street Journal, and a nominee AND winner of numerous Peabody Awards, I cannot now, in good conscience, continue with this interview! I’m sorry, Ms. Rowland, have a good day..!!

KR: “…So you DON’T wanna see my tits….??”

    @TJRAE

If she continued making more dance music, she would have increased her stan base but the dumb b**** thought she could do both R&B and Dance exclusively because she doesn’t wanna be put in a box……….That just proves that her confidence has still blown out because she doesn’t wanna take risks and also because she is just afraid of trying different things……

Most of her fans did not but the album and that’s why she flopped like a waterfall……….Like I said this success was just temporal and not permanent………….Kelly rowland will never be an R&B diva or icon…In her wildest dreams……..If she continued making Dance music she would have been making a name for herslef globally……..

SHE IS JUST A DUMB GIRL!……Now she’s a certified flop……….she needs to give it up at this rate!!!…….She has no drive, passion, or determination to make it big………….

(Mind you, most of her fans are not urban listeners)

Kelly need to be promoting her next single. She may as well manage herself because her management team sucks.

Kelly Rowland has things under control, she hasn’t drop the ball on her coming out album. Just sit back and enjoy the ride!

We’re just fans that know nothing about the industry, so stating your humble opinion means nothing to her or the empire she’s building.
