With most of Destiny’s Child(ren) hovering around the 30 mark, it’s hard to fathom how long and storied their careers have been.
Former member LeToya Luckett celebrated that history while performing at The Woodward in Detroit yesterday. The ‘Torn’ singer journeyed back to the good ol’ days, performing the group’s hits ‘No, No, No’ and ‘Say My Name’. Luckett also took the moment to address speculation about a ‘beef’ between her and her one-time bandmates.

Granted her performance may be greeted by side-eyes from some sects, I feel it refreshing to see her celebrate something she is ultimately a part of. And actually hear her voice this go round too.
That said, with a new album on the horizon, it was somewhat appaling to see the lack of finesse in her stage show, demeanor, and language. Clearly itching to embrace her role as a member of one of the biggest girl-groups of all time, it’s high time Ms. Luckett carried herself as such. She’s come leaps and bounds vocally and has weathered many a label and political storm, yet none of that will matter if she churns out showings such as the profanity laced one above. It’s as if the 30 year old was performing at a cook-out. No maam.
As an ardent supporter of hers, yours truly has longed for a more polished product from her. One can only hope her new project ushers that in. For, as Kelly Rowland‘s latest showings show, a little creative direction can turn a potential stage force into a legitimate one.
uh oh I hope matthew cleared this LOL jk good performance I actually like letoya a lot I would absolutely DIE seeing her bey kelly and michelle (even latavia I guess ughh lol) on stage together that would defff be a pop culture moment .. And seeing as they as ALL friends includin letoya and michelle its very much lookin like a possibility in the not too distant future
I kind of agree with Sam but it was still a small club and judging by the word ‘heffas’, it was a rather hood situation, so I don’t mind that much.The most interesting thing is that she only performed one song (it was not a medley) and that song was the 1st single by DC that she wasn’t on. Hmmm…

Yes they made rnb music but they were on the mtv tour with nsync and jessica simpson so yesss they were and are very much apart of the pop culture that doesn’t mean only ppl who make pop music .. @Asap Clearly thats nothing big. Im a KING B stan and i knew DC opened up for Christina because she was semi bigger n early 2000 and im not asham to say it. Look whos bigger now. Hell DC eclisped Christina anyway n 2000. Bac to bac #1s and TWOTW stayed on BB200 for 2years and sold over 9million copies n the US alone. @TC23 Im wishing for that moment too. I would just die if B, KELLY, TOYA, CHELLE AND TAVIA reunite on a stage somewhere……….OMG that would b EPIC! People just dont know how big DC was back then. Sam, you must have sene early DC interviews and seen how LeToya conducted herself with the most class.
LeToya is a classy woman…just judging by the setting and crowd it was a more informal setting. On TV appearances and such she knows how to conduct herself.
Anyway a DC reunion with BEYONCE, KELENDRIA, TENITRA and LETOYA would be EVERYTHING!!

This wasn’t a concert performance. It was an impromptu showing as she was hosting a party… which means it’s okay for her to be a little loose. With the kind of crowd she was in front of, I don’t think “finesse” was much of an issue.
Anyway, I think it’s great to see her do stuff like this. It annoys me when people act as if she doesn’t have a right to sing those songs. She is just as much a part of Destiny’s Child as anyone else.
No one seemed to care when Michellle sang “No No No,” Say My Name,” “Bills Bills Bills,” or any of the other songs she had absolutely nothing to do with prior to joining.

@ASAP – Just an FYI Letoya was on Say My Name. She and Tavia were booted out of the group after “The Writings on the wall” was released. They were about to shoot the “Say My Name” video a week after they were kicked out. The first album DC created, of which Tavia and Toya were not a part, is “Survivor”.

Well LeToya mainly sings Say My Name cus she and Bee co-wrote majority of that song and ended up being DC’s biggest hit at the time. Think Hey Ladies was other song LeToya had main contribution writing as well (even though they all get credits)

She’ll put on the serious properly when its time but i think she should sing DC songs as seriously as she would her solo efforts.

Letoya, Kelly, and Michelle have proven why Beyonce was the lead vocalist in Destiny’s Child. She has the most versatile vocal styling out of all of the DC4-5 girls.
Which actually showed who balanced the harmonies in the group. I remember watching youtube clips of when Beyonce was sick with the flu in concert, the entire harmony was off.
Letoya is an incredible solo artist, R&B strictly. She has major respect for being able to convey emotions through her music. “tears” “Don’t matter” “Obvious” “Lazy” “Over” are all classics in R&B, to me.
Kelly Rowland, she is simply trying to find her nitch. She’s almost there!
