Being the Queen of Pop means you’re setting standards for others (videos, choreography, music, etc.) Anyone can sing and dance but it all comes down to how you use those tools to set trends and musical innovations which Madonna and Janet has done in their own right.
Gaga has set trends with dance music.
Rihanna, in some aspects has set trends, especially with Rude Boy, Umbrella and What’s My Name,….You have Rude Boy rip-offs and What’s My Name rip offs (Lay It On Me, Right There)…
Britney is the closest to becoming the Queen of Pop rather than any of these because of her longevity and her iconic performances/videos/music….She’s still relevant with each album she puts out and remains relevant through her fragrances/tours, etc.

Lady gaga. Britney Spears time has come and gone, but the impact she had on Pop is 2nd right next to Madonna. Beyonce is more than just the queen of pop. Madonna has done a pretty good job and is still very much relevant in POPular music unlike Janet Jackson, but Janet will be the closest thing we have to a ‘black’ Madonna.
Madonna and M.J remain the queen and king of pop because you still see some artists going out of their way to copy their styles, artistry and image to have the similar type of career, but its not going to happen, do YOU – THEY did THEM!

Like a Virgin wasnt even scandalous, except for the song, which is actually mild in sexual content compared to the music we have now. She sold her units with hard work, determanation, diligence, and bitchiness. Alot of people like to hate on madonna, and as a true fan, I’ve seen the movies she’s directed. They arent that bad. And the movie she just got finished directing is getting positive reviews, the actors that were cast are speaking very highly of her and it was even featured in Vanity Fair. You can’t knock madonnas hustle for wanting to try new things, and every now and then she messes up. She’s human, but she’s all about perfecting her many crafts. She always has been. And I’m not a young person (im not old either hehe)…I grew UP with madonna and I know alot about her and how she came to be the star she is.I witnessed it first hand. I pratically lived through her tippy top prime. I researched her as well, and believe me, she did not sleep her way to fame.

Yes. It’s actually very interesting, it’s madonnas modern day take on a heart enducing royal romance of some sort….The main character is a woman named wally, divorced, who looks up to the romance and relationship of a king….I forgot his name. S***. But anyway, its basically a romance flick. I like where madonna went with it based on what I’ve heard and researched, and the stills from it, I GAGGED.
As far as the whole using thing goes, it’s not hard to fall in love with madonna. That’s another thing she’s good at. However, I do agree, they really did the best they could for her. Im sure madonna appreciates this but never wants to admit it, and looking back, the peeps she was involved with never had a bad thing to say about her. Except for her b**** ass brother.
As far as Hard candy goes, I dont think did it to stay relevant. I just think she wanted to be more urban, something she’s always wanted to be. She’d been working with rappers and urban producers before hard candy, in the early sessions of american life and music too, so something like hard candy was inevitable. Also, madonna wanted to appeal to a more youthful audience but I dont think it worked out. My fave song on there….hmm….I’d have to say dance 2night.

I haven’t Seen any of her live performances on the voice. Even if they were lousy performances/ vocals, I think she has the best voice out of the bunch. He could have served up more of the same for the Purple Rain follow-up but he stayed true to his art and released the type of music that inspired him at the time on ‘Around The World In A Day’. Of course the album did not sell as much as ‘Purple Rain’ but it was still a successful album and is considered by many as classic material now although there were a lot of people who criticized him at the time for not releasing another ‘Purple Rain’. Artists have to evolve and not necessarily focus on topping or equating the previous albums. Some people were questioning Prince’s legendary status (the same way you are trying to argue that Beyonce has fallen off of the path to legendary status) when ‘Around the World In A Day’ came out but in time they were proven to be wrong. In time you will also be proven wrong when it comes to Beyonce, whether ‘4’ tops or matches her previous albums or not.
Nobody listed is worthy of being the new Queen of Pop. Everyone of those artist listed is still following the footprints of Janet and Madonna. The girls of 2day have not created a path for their own as of yet, this is Y Madonna and Janet will always be named Queens of Pop. Even Beyonce who is close of a runner up has not created a path of her own. She’s still following what Janet has created for her, sorry but it’s the truth! Look how Britney will be honored by MTV this year and yet she mentions Janet and Madonna as her inspirations. Yeah it’s the truth but it just goes to show that artist of 2day is still in the house Madonna, Janet N MJ created. Lady Ga Ga is just a Madonna 2.0. She has way too many more accomplishments than anyone on that list with the exception of maybe Beyonce cause they’ve been out the same amount of time almost. Christina has sold MUCH more albums than everyone on the list as well, with the exception of Beyonce. People love an artist and disregard everything else. Educate yourself. lady gaga……she’s talented but eh….we have to see since she’s only been out A COUPLE YEARS. Who knows.
The thing this whole post does wrong is assume that certain people are actually in the running to become the so called “Queen of Pop”. I can say only a handful of those people are aiming for that title. I doubt Beyonce or Adele (and maaaybe Lady Gaga) really have any need to REPLACE someone else. Those girls are TALENTED enough to CARVE out their OWN legacy and title in the music industry. And that my friends is A LOT harder to do.
In Beyoncé’s case, she herself has stated that she’s comfortable in the throne that she has BUILT for herself. Building something takes work as opposed to jumping into someone elses place. As for Adele, the girl obviously could give 2 shits about what all the “pop” stars are doing. She’s doing her own thing. Then we have Gaga who I’m afraid has an uncomfortably similar career aesthetic to Madonna, but she’s also carved out her own niche so I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t care about the title.
The rest of the girls are pretty much puppets that I could see actually wanting that title. Luckily, even if they don’t build a discernable legacy for themselves, they still got huge shoes to fill by going after Madonna’s title.
Then what the hell are C- and D-list artist (Xtina and Ciara) doing on this post? This is a serious consideration that requires serious candidates.

MJ was only king of pop cuz he had songs mostly everyone could relate to and different styles and genres of music. Beyonce is pretty much only r&b and feminist, flamboyant. Ok, this is where I’m coming from, and I get what ur saying. But when Christina was a lousy 5 years in and was more than relevant, did she did deserve the title then and if yes then why not now? (mind you, she did and does have talent more than Rihanna) time is needed, she could surprise us and come out with a great album like she has before. Other than these useless stans commenting, I shall make a semantic and fair one.
Its not that this voting matters, the Britney fans have gone all bias on this voting though I will say, the biggest pop culture impact is between Britney and GaGa. With GaGa, we can expect craziness and blasphemy (which apparently people go nuts for) for each era so its expected but in her prime, Britney has always been the one to watch. She went from school girl to s*** to crazy h** to clean up mum all in under like what? 7 yaers? But yes, I do admit, Britney is the biggest influence of Pop in the past decade.
Vocal ability, the rest can’t match up to Beyoncé and Christina. Hands down. Not far behind? Adele. That girl can sing. hard.
Music video epicness has definitely got to be GaGa. Realistically, she has a good record of amazing videos. Beyoncé, as big of a fan I am of her, some of her videos are like, ‘that’s it?’ and the rest have ‘some’ good videos, very good ones but the rest are all -blergh-. Katy Perry has a slew of good music videos too, especially from her Teenage Dream era (though I admit, I haven’t seen the Teenage Dream video) and Rihanna has always been about shock value – but she doesn’t make a solid statement in each video. Britney… Let’s just say she was so much better before Gimme More.
Choreography hands down, Beyoncé. None of these other b****** can compare. Even with Britney’s complicated dance move, it’s never replicated as good as it was in the music video on stage. Lady GaGa tends to fall flat sometimes on stage and she is not as good as hiding her tiredness while performing on stage. Christina barely dances. Katy jumps up and down and Rihanna does the same hip grinding moves every freaking video. Adele sits on a chair.
A voting system doesn’t work to find the aggregate of Queen of Pop – magazines can pull s*** from the air and say, “oh she’s the queen of pop” but really, it’s different for everyone – everyone can be a queen. Beyoncé didn’t say “who run the world? me”. She said “girls.” Plural, so why can’t we all just look at it like that?

I’ve never been excited for her videos.Her albums and singles yes her videos not so much. The only ones I was excited for was the telephone one with her and Gaga. And the other one with Alicia Keys which never even came out. WTF?
Choreography-Goes to Ciara,Beyonce and Britney Spears. They are dancers and entertainers their dance moves are always on point.I just wish Ciara could stop coping off of Janet. Britney winning in all categories is deplorable.
Britney used to be able to sing when she was younger. Of course she lost it but it was definitly there for a long time until she hit probably 20. Her voice was so incredible, I was even blown away. Did you know she sung chaka khan? And ripped it the f*** apart? I dont care what people say, britney used to be a powerhouse, she had the full package but threw it all away when she figured out it wasnt taking her far. She can write, she plays the piano, she had a basic understanding of music. She is underrated, of course not right now, but she should definitly be respected. Her performances were better than beyonce’s at one time, I dont care what anyone says. Britney wasnt just a puppet, she had immense talent, and she lost it. Okay so this voting is rigged somehow because there is no way that Britney Spears has more vocal ability than Beyonce, Gaga, or Adele. Also, Brit can’t dance better than Beyonce or Ciara and I’m pretty sure her fan base was left weirded out by her when she went through her little stage. Speaking of stage, Brit has no stage presence… she’s an awkward nasally person, not even a performer anymore… in her prime yes. Beyonce right now has the complete package and is the female Michael Jackson for she can dance better than Gaga who’s more creative (because she smokes dope) and she, vocally, is considered one of the greats. She was a hit with Destiny’s Child, one of the best selling female groups of all time which by itself is great, but Beyonce is a determined individual and wanted to make a name for herself by going solo. No one can do runs as well as she can and the 16 Grammys prove her talent. She has the third most in Grammy history and she’s not even 30! Also, all four albums debuted at number 1. She just headlined Glastonbury… I mean come on. B proves that she doesn’t have to PROVE anything with her new album which showcases her raw talent. Through key changes, ballads, and up-tempo club bangers, B can do it all and she’s accomplishes it with grace, humility and charm. She is effortless and an iconic entertainer. That’s why MJ was so great… he was effortless and an iconic entertainer. Both of their music will live on well past their years.
