New Song: Shontelle – ‘Reflection’

Published: Saturday 20th Aug 2011 by Sam

It’s been a year filled with high highs (‘Impossible’) and low lows for Pop trier Shontelle. Now, after side-stepping over to Universal Republic (from sister label Motown), the singer-songwriter is back with ‘Reflection’ – the first cut to be lifted from her 3rd studio album. Could it be 3 times lucky for the Bajan stunner?

Judge after the jump….

Songs sounds great reminds me of India Arie’s video. But there is something missing when it comes to Shontelle. She doesn’t have the je ne sais quois.

RIRI ALREADY TOOK SHONTELLE`S MUSIC CAREER !!!

    I really like this

I think it could work if she really went for a whole new image. It won’t work in America, but it could work in the UK cos this kind of chilled pop with a strong message does well here. Saying that I doubt highly they’ll be clever enough to reinvent her as anything other than ‘another Rihanna’ / ‘R&B singer wannabe’. She needs to be made into a Corinne Bailey Rae type if she wants to sing tracks like this, otherwise she needs another ‘T-Shirt’ imo!

Shontelle`s music will not do good here….because her fanbase is not that big….BUT RIHANNA`S IS !!!!
So she better make it in the United Kingdom !

  9. Harvey August 20, 2011

Her fanbase is alright,Impossible used to be everybody’s s*** though.

  10. Victor August 20, 2011

@ Harvey NO IS NOT !!!
Rihanna has fans in Finland, Norway, United Kingdom, France, South America, Australia etc., can shontelle do that no…unless she records a song with rihanna !

Impossible and Perfect Nightmare were pretty damn flawless. PN deserved to be a MASSIVE hit.

This is just okay, I doubt it’ll do much on the charts…

Love me some Shontelle. Glad to have her back

  14. bey’knight August 20, 2011

why shes wasting no time , the rih route!

if she wants a hit so bad, why dont she do somn like whats my name or somn dancey like disturbia

i like this though, it has a country feel to it but as far as becoming the hit she needs hmmm

  15. bey’knight August 20, 2011

    @RICHARD

i still have perfect nightmare on replay.

the “no way” x8 part gets me and in the end when she goes na na na, na na na na

that song is everything if Rih had recorded it , it woulda been a no1 –sad really, Shontelle is a much better singer w/ good /not-as-catchy material

  17. IMGUNNACHECKUBOO August 20, 2011

Prang Mantis is still trying? She’s had two hits and STILL no one gives a s***? Pack it up honey.

The song would do good in the UK but Shontelle as a brand wouldn’t… She is completely irrelevant both in the UK and US, shes struggling bless her, her voice just isn’t amazing or quirky at all… with a big image change she would do better in the US than the UK… Rihanna is bigger than Beyonce in the UK, thats saying something, Beyonce won ALOT of fans back at Glastonbury however… None the less Rihanna and the UK and very tight, and Rihanna knows this. Shontelle stands no chance… good luck tho

  19. Bey’knight August 20, 2011

Pls Rihanna is not bigger than Beyonce in the UK, her 2 1st singles n album did wel cus of xfactor end of n she still did huge promo on tv shows, radio n magcovers Since then what has Rih done in UK that Bey hasnt done b4? IASF is like 4 or 5 times platinum and 4 is sellin steady for dis time of d year. If it wasnt for Amy’s death the album would still be top 5 They jus voted B worlds greatest dancer. Evn jessie j n Katy Perry are higher than Rih on list. Shes bigger when shes physically there

I wish every body would stop comparing everyone to Beyonce, “Beyonce” is in a class/lane of her own by herself and no one of this era is catching her. Beyonce is a “ICON” and surely this generations “LEGEND”

  21. nice_gurl August 20, 2011

I like the song. It has a country feel, a catchy chorus and good message. Don’t know if it will do that well on US charts. Maybe top 50 if she’s lucky.

  22. lola August 20, 2011

She must be kidding if she thinks this is going to do well. Her voice sucks. What is it with all of these music artists who can’t sing. And people are happy she’s making “real music” when she’s made that nasty song “Licky” and has a new track where she’s shouting “play that f****** music” and it’s totally electronic-pop.

  23. sabrina August 27, 2011

I like this song but Shontelle needs to push herself vocally. It sounds like she’s holding back.
