Even though it was recently confirmed that Drake and Lil’ Wayne are indeed preparing a joint LP after their solo projects, R&B heartthrob Trey Songz has also revealed an interest in recording a duet album with his former ‘Successful’ co-star.
Speaking with hip-hop magazine The Source, Trigga had this to say:
“When thinking along the lines of that, Drake is the first person that comes to mind that I am that musically comfortable with in that space. He is a friend of mine as well, and I think we can pull something off like that; could sound very authentic.”
“I mean, you got to look at [Kanye and Jay-Z] and see how long it took them to do it, you know? So it has to be organic in whatever way it happens. It can’t be a business decision and you can’t look at it in a way of making it lucrative,” Songz explains. “I think it has to be something that you are definitely going into for music’s sake. It has to be something real, because if it’s not authentic you can hear it.. They’ve been working together for so long and so many tracks together under their belt before this album even came that it’s been very much premeditated.”
Though not far-fetched given the number of collaborations the two have had (see: ‘Replacement Girl’, I Invented Sex’, ‘Successful’, ‘The Usual’, etc.), it would be interesting to see what they could cook up in the studio. Given the disaster that was the industry’s last ‘best of both world’-esque endeavor (Bow Wow/Omarion), maybe Trey’s signature haunted house howl is exactly what fans need to regain interest in another singer/rapper duet LP.
