VH1 attracted critique from many a corner last year for the questionable line-up of acts assembled for their ‘Divas’ re-boot. However, if this year’s newly announced list of headliners is anything to go by, the hit annual is back on form and in a big way.

The network today announced the following headliners for the extravaganza:
* Mary J Blige
* Kelly Clarkson
* Jennifer Hudson
* Jill Scott
* Florence + Machine
* Jessie J
The impressive cast of vocalists will be backed by The Roots, who will serve as the houseband at the New York event which airs December 19th.

As one who remembers being a child captivated by earlier versions of the show and the headliners of yesteryear (see: Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, among others), this is certainly quite the coup for the network. Especially after last year’s random array of acts.
The ladies above -despite being at different stages of their careers-all represent similar things. Sass, confidence, and above all, vocals! Special shout-out goes to Jessie J, who is doing a fantastic job of flying the British flag. We can’t wait!
