I live in Europe and I can confirm that Rihanna is more popular than Beyonce over here. Riri is immensely popular over here, it’s almost ridiculous considering she’s just 6 years into her career. Same with Gaga, but she’s huge everywhere I guess. I think European people have this love-hate relationship with both Beyonce and Gaga, which is probably the reason Rihanna is sometimes considered bigger than them. Overall, people seem to like Rihanna, whereas Gaga is too extreme and Beyonce is… well, I don’t actually know why people dislike her, but Rihanna is exciting, new, fresh, always changing – I think that’s a positive thing here in Europe. Rihanna has a lot of haters in the US. Europeans are more open-minded when it comes to music, I think and Americans expect a lot – performing skills, writing skills, entertaining – thus, why Gaga and B are so huge in the US

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion but this is such a big honor to give someone. I like Umbrella it’s still edgy and does not sound dated. You post an article about Beyonce and you see how people DO NOT respect her and doubt her “legendary” status. People do not respond well to her hype, and people post countless examples of the smoke and mirrors that make her career. THIS ALONE PROVES that BeYAWNce is a joke. There is never even a consensus on her talent, her credibility, or her success. People bicker, fight, and argue about BIONCI and she is extremely polarizing. You don’t get that with a LEGEND. A legend is cemented in stone and you can’t argue with. All the divas are unsurmoutnable legends: JANET. MADONNA. MARIAH. WHITNEY. Legends. BeYAWNce is not a legend and just because her team emailed VH1 asking for a list with her name on the top DOES NOT mean anything. A LEGEND is something that is unheard of, the things they did were unimaginable. The songs they sang were timeless. The videos they did were memorable. NOTHING about BeYAWNce is her own, it’s all similar and reminiscent of someone else who came before her. She’s done nothing other females haven’t done. Wear a blonde weave and dance around on stage… handfuls of other female have done the same. Records R&B songs with rappers… it’s been done. Have one of the biggest songs in radio history… it’s been done by all the legends. One thing in particular that BeYAWNCe will never do is surpass the success of her debut. All the divas have done it TWICE, BeYAWNCe can’t do it once. JANET with Control and JJRN1814 (and then janet.) Madonna with Madonna and Like a Virgin (and then True Blue) MARIAH with Mariah Carey and Music Box (and then Daydream) and Whitney with Whitney Houston and Whitney (and then The Bodyguard). BeYAWNce hasn’t been able to surpass the success of Dangerously in Love which sold almost 10 million WW and had 4 hit singles, no flops. D-Day only had one hit “Irreplaceable” and all the others fizzled out on radio and the Hot 100 within weeks of their release. IT barely sold 7 million WW with more hype and prmotion than any album in 06 or 07. I Am… Sucha Farce had 8 or 9 singles and only 4 hits. And we don’t even start with 4lop. GIVE IT A REST, BeYAWNce is not a legend and she’s on thin ice. Her career is in trouble because all the shady things she been doing over the years have finally caught up with her. Watching Kelly Rowlands song smash must have killed her as all her songs release AFTER “Motivation” flopped and motivation is STILL on the charts. DAMN

Well, I am super late in here today but as I expected it just turned into a stan war and of course the Bey stans are in heavy effect to defend their girl. Why am I not surprised. *rolls eyes*
I won’t necessarily agree with the list, I actually wuold have given the title to Usher for ‘Yeah’. I love Bey and I am happy that she topped the list,, ‘Crazy In Love’ was my s*** but I definitely think that ‘Yeah’ was a bigger record! I can’t believe it wasn’t even in the top ten. I also think ‘Umbrella’ should have been in the top ten (yeah I may not like the singer but that was a huge record) and ‘Empire State of Mind’ shouldn’t be top ten IMO. *shrugs*
For the most part I think all of these songs were definitely huge records that deserved to be on the list but the order is so random. Certain songs definitely deserve to be higher and the songs in the top 20 just seem to be the more recent songs. I don’t see how ‘Poker Face’ made top three, maybe top 20 but top three was a serious reach. I guess since she blew up over the past couple of years they felt the need to put her in the top 3. I just think that’s because of her popularity right now. I personally ‘Just Dance’ was a bigger hit than ‘Poker Face’ but whatever.
I’m happy that my boy made the list and I love that Aaliyah is on here as well but overall I am not too phased. It’s just someone else’s opinion and it’s really impossible to name just one song the best song of an entire decade. There is just so many to choose from and it’s impossible to get everyone to agree! Plus I don’t think anyone really takes VH! too seriously anymore, especially after their list of the greatest artist of all time. SMH. But again, congrats to Bey for topping the list.
