Whitney Houston On Aaliyah: “My Sparkle Has Gone To A Better Place”

Published: Sunday 13th Nov 2011 by David

Now firmly re-positioned back in the spotlight after a tumultuous last few years, a seemingly revitalized Whitney Houston has continued her promotional tour in support of her upcoming movie ‘Sparkle‘.

Now heavily anticipated by her support base,  her upcoming interview with Access Hollywood about the film is expected to see her discuss a number of difficult issues, from addiction to heartbreak.

However, until the full clip airs, get into this snippet of the icon sharing her thoughts on fellow the vocalist Aaliyah who had been cast in the movie before her passing ten years ago.

YES, aaliyah would have done so many great things with her career. still such a great loss to music & to the urban audience that knew & loved her. you’re still missed babygirl.

  2. Malibu Barbie November 13, 2011

Queen Aaliyah no chick is and can touch her… never.

  3. nate November 13, 2011

I’m still on the fence about Jordin Sparks being cast as Sparkle. I think the Keke girl from “Akeelah and the bee” would of been a better fit. Keke has already proven she can carry a movie, and she can also sing very well.

  4. Lisa November 13, 2011

@NATE I think Tiffany Evans would of been the best choice.

It was very good that she said that.I had heard that she had handpicked Aaliyah for the role, so she obviously liked her and so did Janet, Stevie Wonder and so many other legends…It’s still so tragic that she died, but this kind of optimism (“she went to a better place”) is the only thing we can do…She was about to dominate, though with 3 movies, 1 worldwide campaign with Hilfiger, the album, the singles, the videos, she would probably tour too…She is truly missed and her music is still appreciated and granted that it was ahead of its time (and it STILL is), I think it will stand the test of time and then some.

    R.I.P. Aaliyah

Whitney Houston has nine lives and yes she is an Icon.

  7. JohnVidal November 13, 2011

RIP Aaliyah don´t get me wrong. But I don´t see how she was going to become that huge worldwide phenomenom some of you always want to make it seem. We would never know to say the least
And what matters the most here is the presence of WHITNEY HOUSTON, one of the biggest names EVER you know, just saying

  11. Shiines November 13, 2011

Trust me Aaliyah had many many movies lined up Matrix (all sequels), Honey(Jessica Alba took the role), and Sparkle(which is now Jordin Sparks) she also had a clothing line coming out she was suppose to go on tour after filming Queen of the Damned and so much more.. She would have been so legendary I mean she is, she has accomplised so much in only 22years!! She is missed so much in the music industry her fans and family miss her as well RIP Beautiful Aaliyah you are loved 10yrs later babygirl

  12. Tru Voice November 13, 2011

  14. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) November 13, 2011

We can predict that Aaliyah would take over because all evidence led to that conclusion. The success of ‘Romeo Must Die’, ‘Try Again’ becoming a worldwide smash, her songs charting with no promo and no videos, the awards, the campaigns she had lined up and she was supposed to perform at the Grammy’s in 2002, but… 😥 Magazine covers, charts, TV shows, radio, club, cinema, Aaliyah was everywhere. This is how we know.It was only inevitable for her to blow up and dominate, but she passed away…

    R.I.P.

  15. Rondo November 13, 2011

Whitney looking better than ever … Love her to death

  16. Peanutisabitch November 13, 2011

I think she look so,so beautiful, better then the last time.

  17. Mabs November 13, 2011

People say that Aaliyah could have reached the moon cuz all signs pointed upward. Hit singles, critically acclaimed album, MTV/TRL presence in tact and the MOVIES. Aaliyah was going to be in the Matrix ok. Nuff said.

  18. Spunkypoop2001 November 13, 2011

That’s my girl Whit! Whit! She looks great and I can’t wait for the movie.

  19. BIGGESTAALIYAHFAN November 13, 2011

I luv u baby girl Forever and for always. True talent=true art. Will forever be ur #1 fan. RIP baby girl.

  20. irene46 November 13, 2011

in addition to all the projects she had lined up, she was also very well loved by important people in the industry because she was said to be so sweet and lovable. missy elliot referred to her as an angel on earth. when an artist is loved by those who count, there’s no way to go but up. not to mention the fact she was a true talent!

truly many stars loved aaliyah including britney whose belly dancing outfit and snake dance at the vma’s was inspired by aaliyah’s ‘we need a resolution’ video.

  21. Teflon Boy November 13, 2011

For those who question Aaliyah’s relevance and whether she would have taken over I just have to assume they are too young to understand how firmly cemented Aaliyah’s success was in that it wasn’t based on keeping up with short-lived trends etc. She wasn’t one of those one bad single from obscurity type acts…, she was a trusted talent, well loved, naturally gorgeous but more than any of that, she worked hard and wasn’t complacent…, the main reason I think people are convinced now more than ever that she would have reigned is because so much of what followed after her death had her influence all over it and also so much of what she stood for has become mainstream in her absence.

  22. TREAL.! November 13, 2011

out of all this who shot john mess about who’s queen & who’s not, Aaliyah was a true queen.! in her short 22 years, she accomplished so much in this world that some of the acts of today, will never be able to touch.! & on top of that, every time you hear someone speak on Aaliyah, they always have something positive to say.! how beautiful she was, how her smile lit up a room, how when she walked in a room, her presence itself demanded attention.! she didnt have to do all the extra stuff to gain attention.! attention came to her naturally.! she is missed so much in the music industry & in the world period.! everyday i think about her passing because even after 10 years, i still cannot believe that happened to a person such as her.! but all we can do is keep her memory alive & remember everything she prevailed in with her 22 short YEARS of life. R.I.P Aaliyah,. we love you & we miss you so much.!

rip aaliyah – true stan forever right here – ONE IN A MILLION!

  24. Lord’s Prayer November 13, 2011

Love Whitney and Alliyah. You could tell she was really affected by Alliyah’s death

Btw, Whitney is looking good and she is so calm now. I like this Whitney.

  25. CityLife November 13, 2011

I can’t wait to see Sparkle and I love Whitney. So glad she is getting better, she looks great

  26. phenomenalblessings November 14, 2011

I so wish Aaliyah had not passed away so all these doubters could have seen the mega star she was about to become. She had so many big films lined up and if she were alive to make them the whole world would have been in awe of her. People in the industry as well as her true fans knew that she was about to take over the industry because she was a triple threat and was beginning to blossom into her womanhood and acting skills and these adult roles would have show cased that in a very classy way. Whitney Houston knew, the producers of the Matrix knew it and all of the other producers who had hand picked her for projects knew it. So all you doubters that don’t get it, it’s your ignorance of her talent that blinds you to what everyone could see.

  27. MMM November 14, 2011

    RIP Aaliyah

Whitney is so beautiful in this clip. Classy, elegant, attractive. I can imagine Aaliyah being her daughter. I can see that Whitney was affected by Aaliyah’s death. “My Sparkle has gone to a better place’….wow

  28. Jazzyln November 14, 2011

Imagine what the world would be if Aaliyah hadn’t put out a record, or Whitney hadn’t put out a record, or Aretha hadn’t put out a record. I’ve always said that these three women represent the three generations of African American singers who changed music forever. What a coincidence all three have been involved with the Sparkle movie/soundtrack.

I simply cannot wait for Whitney’s return to film.

  29. swagg November 14, 2011

its still crazy how baby girl was taken away so young from us …i know some ppl are nay sayers because they think whoever is hot right now is the best..but realize she had two triple plat albums before she died and two movies with plans to do many more in addition to matrix sequels honey and sparkle she was supposed to make sequels to queen of the damned (which she did a hella of an acting job in there)..there is currently no other chick in rnb that has done that many movie roles that she was about to do

  30. creativei November 14, 2011

    RIP AALIYAH ;-(….

  31. nicegirl November 14, 2011

RIP Aaliyah. So wish she were still here to do that movie and make great music.

Oh and Whitney is looking good too.

  32. Shanice November 15, 2011

I loved Aaliyah. So don’t take this the wrong way.
    But what did Honey do?
What did the two Matrix films do?
Sparkle might have been the only movie that would have gotten her some shine.

  33. tia November 15, 2011

Aaliyah was the baddest b**** when she was alive. She was easily one of the most popular black singers of her time. She already dominated and made a huge impact with the urban community and she was about to dominate the pop audience as well. She was gorgeous, beautiful voice, and slick dance moves. She was the whole package.
