Billboard: “No More Singles From Lady GaGa’s Born This Way”

Published: Sunday 29th Jan 2012 by David

Following the release of ‘Marry The Night’, the 5th single from Lady GaGa‘s ‘Born This Way‘, many began to just which cut from the LP would serve as its follow up.

Unfortunately, the news her fan base had been dreading was confirmed today.

No more singles are to be released from the album.

Full story below…

During an Ask Billboard session on the company’s official site with Gary, one Germano Blanco suggested:

Hi Gary

Lady GaGa’s ‘Scheisse’ should be her next single.

To which he replied:

Hi Germano,

“Sheibe” does have a hooky chorus. Personally, I’d still prefer “Hair” as a pop radio single were another to be released from “Born This Way.”

An Interscope executive confirmed to Billboard this week that he is not aware of any current plans for another single from the album.

To be honest, we wouldn’t be too surprised if this was true.

Because, despite selling 5.4 million worldwide and shipping almost double that figure, ‘Born’ is just not the mega seller Interscope were hoping it would be.

For,taking into consideration its year long promo campaign, cinematic videos and critically acclaimed singles,  selling 5 million copies just isn’t the business, especially following the smash hits that were ‘The Fame‘ & ‘The Fame Monster‘.

With album #4 on its way, we hope GaGa serves something bold, fresh and exciting.

Because as inspiring as ‘Born’s cuts are, they just aren’t as exciting as the ‘Alejandro’s and ‘Love Game’s of the world.

  5. NAUDISWEET (Xtina Stan) January 29, 2012

What?!! Hopefully this isn’t true, she has so many great singles on the album.

  6. Those That Cannot Do, Stan January 29, 2012

4 albums in 5 years, smh.

Well I hope the next one is better, no pop star should fall off that quickly. Every singer has a slump or low sales but Gaga really shot her mouth off with this album and the way it’s developed so far hasn’t matched her words.

She did try though, lots of singles, lots of promo…that bizarre ABC special.

I hope this time around she eases up on the show and focuses on the music, I think that’s where she got lost a little. She had to top her stunts, her costumes, her wigs. Bigger bigger bigger till folks started intentionally ignoring her.

    Better luck next album.

  7. Angelina January 29, 2012

I think that if she wants that same level of success she should make catchy songs like she did with the Fame and Fame Monster and have banging beats. This obscure stuff does not suit her.

  8. LindseyMari January 29, 2012

The entire ‘Born This Way’ era was lacking something though. It was a good album, but it seemed a bit experimental compared to the previous work. As they say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

  9. Cheeki-Mann January 29, 2012

She succumbed to Adele. L’il Monsters FLOPPPPPP!!!!!

  10. JP January 29, 2012

Cute pic, but I agree…Lady Gaga and her team are at fault for the performance of the record.

    90% hype, 10% substance

With the current success of Adele’s 21…I hope she doesn’t make the same mistake of over promising and under delivering with her next album.

It’s always best to under promise and over deliver. Something to think about.

  11. YOOSONDALOOSE January 29, 2012

Think it is the right move she should wait until her next album for another single, her fan base is decreasing and decreasing, she play her cards with her next album.

  12. ♛ pop royalty ♛ ( iMusic ) January 29, 2012

    😥 😥 i wanted her to release ” S” 😥

this pic is PERFECT. it’s a rare form of LG !!

looks like a greek goddess. 😉

  13. MISHKA January 29, 2012

2011 was supposed to be her year but Adele and Rihanna stole her thunder. Contrary to all expectations.

  14. Ray January 29, 2012

Maybe there were some ‘wrong’ single choices.
Judas was obviously not that loved.
She should have gone with Hair, especially when it had so many downloads right from the start.
Americano would also have been a smash had it been released last summer. It’s as good as Alejandro.
Marry The Night would have benefited from an earlier release and a better video.

So I would have gone for:

    Born This Way
    Hair
    Americano
    Marry The Night

and finally Yoü and I or The Edge of Glory

    1) Hyperbole and Over-Hype: Gaga began making extravagant statements about “Born This Way” as early as March 2010, over a year before the album was actually released! She wrote about the album, “It [will be] the anthem for our generation…[with] the greatest music I’ve ever written. I promise you, that this album is the greatest of my career.” In June 2010, 11 months before the album was eventually released, she said, “This new album is my chance to create what in 20 years will be seen as my iconic moment.” In September 2010, she teased fans by singing a capella the chorus of the title track when she accepted her award for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards.

At the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2011, Gaga announced the release dates of the album and its lead single. While the single was going to be released in February, fans were shocked to learn that the album wouldn’t be out until May 23rd. Since Gaga had been talking about the album and how great it was for almost 9 months at that point, it was surprising to hear that it would be another 5 months until the album’s release. In the spring of 2011, Gaga revealed the polarizing album cover, which many Little Monsters were not fans of. Gaga also continued to speak in hyperbole when discussing the album in the months prior to its release.

As brilliant as the album may be, there is no way that it can live up to anyone’s expectations after it had been hyped up so much for so long. Hype, excitement and anticipation are always important to create buzz leading up to a big album release. However, too much hype turns excitement and anticipation into frustration and annoyance for many. And those who remain excited are often a bit disappointed because even if the album is really good, they were expecting a masterpiece and can end up disappointed that it is not as mind-blowing as they were told it was for so long.
    _____________________________________________________________
This basically was the biggest mistake she made this era.I stan for Gaga BUT I’m not going to sit there and say she didn’t make any tall ass claims…Gaga should think about scaling back the comments come next era.

  16. aishaaguilerakeys January 29, 2012

Thank God. The album was ok, but the vids were deceiving.

  17. AmbeRussell January 29, 2012

If she cannot explain the message of her music or videos or fashion for a 5 yr old to understand, then she need not use that idea. Her “art” is toooo over thought out that it actually loses its main intent becomes seen as a mess. Art should not have to be explain in an art expert manner, especial pop music. What gaga needs to learn is less is more, make music on subject matters ppl care about n don’t assume ppl want u as their “leader”. Also, she need not act like everything she dies is ground breaking bc it isn’t.

  18. Chis January 29, 2012

@Wizard, you are correct. She looks gorgeous in that pic. I’ve never seen Gaga look like that. My mouth DROPPED!

  19. AmbeRussell January 29, 2012

To me born this way just wasn’t an over all average music consumer friendly. The lead was a hit, but it come of came off offensive to some as well as the music video. Then judas, how do u think ppl felt when they heard that title? She was too full of shock value, with mini movies music videos. That’s cool when the short version is good w/o the extra stuff, but her videos lacked when shorten. Then edge of glory video was boring n looked last minute, you n I wasn’t a summer song n video made no sense. Over all, the album sold well, but it was over hyped, over thought out n was trying toooo hard to be THE ALBUM to be epic. Epic happens on it’s own. MJ made tons of 10min long videos n they all worked in a 3 min long version. They were also didn’t come across as being better than other videos neither. Gaga tried to say she was the s*** n only ppl who fell fir it were the stans n music reviewers who love kissing her ass. But as billboard poll backfired, gaga is not queen of pop n she is not as stable as many wanted us to believe she was. I mean 3 yrs n they give her that title NOW. well look at any1 during their prime

    Nothing was confirmed.

  21. DMWN January 29, 2012

This album coasted on NOTHING BUT hype. Hype from her last album and hype from her name. There was no real substance or movement behind it. Between the 99cents sales price…BTW copying Madonna’s song…her sales dropping 85% during week 2…it became clear early on that this album wasn’t gonna live up to full expectation. Then ADELE came out and made her look just silly. Then Madonna called her reductive.

This whole era has been a bust and her time clock is ticking.

  22. Bey is legend January 29, 2012

She looks goddess-like in that pic, <3

Im cool with her not releasing further singles from this album esp now that she's planning a new one. I love the theme and content of btw but some of the productions were just overdone. If she doesn't hit the 6mil mark, that'd be a bad look 5 years from now. Bandwagoners flee at the faintest suspicion of failure so hopefully her next lead single is a monster hit.

    PS
I dont get why she's opening and closing the grammys. This will be her 3rd consecutive year performing n i get thats cus she's always had stuff out n nominated but she opened the show 2 years ago. She needs to cut back on the overkill. 1 performance 1 song wouldve bern just fine!

  23. INK. January 29, 2012

  24. The One and Only Miss Perrylicious January 29, 2012

I thought Heavy Metal Lover will be her next single?
The single cover already released. WTH?
Btw,…none of her next singles will crack Top 20… #fact.
5.4M after super huge promos. That is GARBAGE!
    Adele is laughing somewhere. LOL

  25. Queen Navy January 29, 2012

BTW was a flop. I can only imagine how many tens of millions were was spent on the making and promotion of this album, only to have it sell a measly 5.4 million. The album hasn’t even been out a full year and they’re already ending promotion. That’s the REAL reason they got her recording another album so soon, to make up the difference. And I promise you that the budget next time is gonna be considerably smaller.

  26. ♛ pop royalty ♛ ( iMusic ) January 29, 2012

i still believe in gaga though.

  27. SLAYFANISTANN. January 29, 2012

Thank you! I’ve been a GaGa fan since Just Dance and Poker Face came out. That was her best era and so was The Fame Monster. She was original back then, now she’s SO obsessed with becoming the modern Madonna that it’s just a turn off.

Considering the promo, 5.4m is nothing much to arite home about Gaga visited every continent in promo of this album im talkin as far as India. Brit n Bey each had 1 special, F*** had at least 3 that i can rmbr right now. Those r just samples. My point is nobody’s promo trail was half as extravagant as Gaga’s last year. That’s why I said they were decent instead of Great.I actually do think the overhype was what killed the album for most.I don’t think Gaga would have put herself in this position if she would have scaled back on the quotes/did a little less promoting.

TBH,This article brings up some good points (none that weren’t already said before, but still)

  35. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) January 29, 2012

Well, that would be their best bet. They shouldn’t release any more singles, the masses are clearly not here for this sound and after the massive flop that was NMT worldwide, even the possibility of a bigger flop follow-up would be a terrible risk.

Too bad ‘GH’ and ‘Scheisse’ weren’t released. They should have been the 4th and 5th single respectively, while ‘You & I’ (that VMA’s performance completely ruined the entire era for her) and ‘MTN’ should have remained album tracks. I hope her next album is miles better and more creative than ‘BTW’ and I also hope that the label will tone down their hype machine a little, because overexposure and arrogant statements both contributed to the interest fading out.

  36. ChristinasCOMING January 29, 2012

Anyway, I am very glad to hear this. Her music is horrible.

  37. JP January 29, 2012

Gaga is very talented, but this era was very pretentious.

She needs to just focus on making fun catchy music…not making albums of the decade, not trying to be the voice of the people , not trying to be some leader for gays.

No one wants her to fail, but it would be nice if she got over herself.

  40. Smudgemonster January 29, 2012

BTW is her best work to date, every song is amazing. Judas the best video of 2011 by a long way. The masses don’t geddit, and that’s how it is. They all want the kind of pap that KP and Rihanna churn out, but the Mo†her Mons†er has moved on. She is a true artist, not a singer of someone else’s stuff, or cut your throat music like Adele. All you haters will have to look back with the rest in the years ahead and acknowledge that BTW is indeed the Album of the Decade.

  45. JohnVidal January 29, 2012

    @ MRDIVABITCH
I agree it´s fantastic. A great and deserving contender for Album of the Year at the grammys. Obviously better than the Fame. I understand people liked more that one cos it was more commercial but the difference is obvious

And I have to say it. Really sorry but this Patrick guy is slow. How the hell “Alejandro” and “Love Game” are more exciting than Bron This Way album?? Among all her previous songs you chose those two??? I could understand Bad Romance or Paparazzi or Poker Face or other non singles, but those two??? haha Zero credibitily

  46. JER January 29, 2012

Still can’t at her letting the fans sway into releasing “Marry the Night” that boring, uneventful flop from the get-go. All her stans “IT’S GONNA SMASH IT’S THE MOST RADIO FRIENDLY SINGLE” actually it’s not. “Hair,” or “Government Hooker” are catchier. I felt 4 singles was enough but they just HAD TO push it and break protocol. This proves Gaga can’t deliver 5 singles off an album because her schtick and the buzz has worn off by then

  47. RihannaNavy January 29, 2012

I was getting sick of her on every damn show promoting her album, she did like 3 specials in one year. so overrated!

  48. Hush January 29, 2012

BTW’s sales only look “decent” on paper. In the grand scheme of things, it being the second biggest seller of last year means very little. I bet Interscope didn’t make a profit from it, and actually went into the red after all the money that they pumped into it didn’t produce earth shattering returns. Gaga blew up too big too fast. Usually when that happens, they deflate quickly.

  49. Marble January 29, 2012

5.4 million in 7 months is not cottage cheese. Allowing for the 99 cent sale (Amazon took the loss, not Interscope), sold better than Perry who had 5 no. ! singles. Touring makes the artist money, and BTW was designed for the arena rafter raising thumping. Interscope is looking at next album, 450 show dates that could bring in 1 billion ( thats billion) dollars,

  50. LaLa January 29, 2012

wasting of “Sheisse”… Like she did with “Teeth”… damn! >,<
    & What about BTW ball/tour???

As a true Gaga’s fan, i don’t care that BTW sold 1or 10million! For me BTW is way better than TF and TFM! I’m here for the artistic work and talent, not for some commercial success!!! I Just agreed with you haters, that she chose the wrong singles( xcept Judas:-)). I would like to have “scheibe, Americano, HML, BM” as a single, too bad!!

  53. Theman January 29, 2012

She’s sold nearly 6 mil ww and over 2 mill in the states. Thats decent. She went for artistry with this album which is good. People complain abour music then when you get quality music u still complain. She should release one or two more singles. Adele and Gaga have nothing to do with each other. She’s fine. Also she has had two albums and an ep. Not three.

  54. Alexis Carrington January 29, 2012

government hooker was the only thing worth releasing after btw…everytime a new vid from this album came out I didn’t watch it…i just didn’t have the time to watch 7-15 min vids for so-so songs.

SHE SHOULD HAVE RELEASED BLOODY MARRY,AMEN FASHION,ELECTRIC CHAPEL AND THEN YOU AND I.

  56. Saetana January 30, 2012

What a slanted topic post – Born This Way was the second best selling album in the WORLD last year, coming second only to the currently unstoppable Adele, who isn’t a pop singer in any event! I for one do not wish her to return to the pop pap of The Fame era, I would never have bought that album until she added the Monster EP, the original album was at least half crappy generic shite that anyone could sing. Born This Way was experimental, yes, she admitted that, it mixes sounds and genres fearlessly. I have no interest in Gaga making music purely for popularity or chart position. Just to point something out as well, Born This Way has been out for only 8 months – how many had The Fame sold at that stage? I rest my case ;o)

  57. Lil monster 18 million! January 30, 2012

Gaga has not flopped! Born This Way was an incredible album with 4 top ten hits, and 5 top 40 hits. Out of all of the music put out this year all of her singles did great! Gaga sold 5.4 million copies of BTW! She also gained about 4 million twitter followers! Gaga hasnt flopped and isnt going to… Her next album will be incredible and unique, just as The Fame and The Fame Monster were. GO GAGA!

  58. R January 30, 2012

If you say that the singles have been rushed, then what about Rihanna?
    3 singles in 4 months.
Gaga just had 5 singles in 9 months.
    Which is quite normal.
    STUPID HATERS.

  59. Jeff January 30, 2012

Gaga should drop the ’80’s pop meets Elton john’ sound she went 4 this era. something fresh & current & crossover, not stuff 4 the gays only.i mean cmon gaga.its too early for u 2 change music.which brings us 2 gaga problem #1 -overrating myself & thinking i’m the best ther is-coz she aint. Born This Way isn’t done with yet, its still in the UK top 40 and has been for almost every week since it was released, can’t speak for other countries. The album is only EIGHT MONTHS old for f***’s sake, The Fame hadn’t sold anywhere near as many at that stage. I love the Born This Way sound personally, yeah so it harks back to the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, you know, those decades where we had some decent music in the charts instead of all this rent-a-rapper/rent-a-singer shite that is clogging up most of the charts at the moment. At least Gaga hasn’t stooped that low, when she went for a collaboration she went for her fellow pop queen Beyonce, the woman has taste, gotta give her that. Look at all the legends who have worked or want to work with her (Elton John, Tony Bennett, Cher to name but three). I cannot see her going backwards with her music, I have no idea what she will put out next but generic pop pap is not likely to be amongst it ;o)

I can understand why Born This Way was not as massive as The Fame or Fame Monster, because Born This Way pushed people’s buttons especially the buttons of , Beiber, Perry, Rihanna, & Britney fans . Born this way is a very sophisticated album that had a production standard that you just dont hear within the modern homogenized SAFE pop music market today. It said in this billboard blog that Born This Way has sold 5.4 million copies worldwide but interscope records reported back in december 2911 that BTW album sales are in excess of 8 million copies W.W………thats over 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD A MONTH EVERY MONTH SINCE IT’S RELEASE …..UMMMMM THAT IS STILL A S*** LOAD OF RECORDS EITHER WAY!!!!!! Just like Adel’s 21 album with is sold loads as well……

Wow, peoples comments here make me sick. Just cus gaga is not following the materialistic s** induced flow of her first two albums she’s suddenly not good? BTW was an amazing album, every song was mouthed waterlingly fantastic. Adele is a rubbish lonley woman who croons about negative things in life in a whiny voice. She is the most overhyped thing ever; not Gaga!
