R&B diva Ashanti cranked up the push for her latest single ‘The Woman You Love’ by shooting its accompanying video yesterday.
The singer called on actor/model Marcus Patrick to serve as her leading man in the clip, which is hoped will give the track the boost it needs. Since its release to digital outlets in December, the cut has thus far peaked at #74 (and climbing) on Billboard’s Hip-Hop & R&B Chart.
Fans of the former Murder Inc star should fret not, for Ms. Douglas promises more singles ahead of the release of her first independently released LP when it arrives this Summer.

#FACT – Ashanti is now releasing music independently, which means limited $$$ for promotion. And that means she’ll have a harder time competing against releases coming from majors.
I would love her to prove me wrong because I have a desire to see black (R&B) music regain it’s commercial hold, but I’m not holding my breath for Ashanti’s comeback because she has too many things working against her. I feel the same way about SWV’s comeback. Only Brandy and Monica give me a little glimmer of hope; and I’m nervous about them.
The song went for adds at urban radio on the 23rd (not even a week ago) and promotion is just starting. Stop saying what she will and won’t do when she has barely stepped out the gate as of now. The song leaked early and her plans are just coming to frution.
