Hot Shot: Ashanti Ups Her Diva In New Promo Pic

Published: Tuesday 24th Jan 2012 by Sam

Peep Ashanti!

The singer looks all sorts of smoking in this hot new promo shot for her forthcoming album.

Currently untitled, the set is preceded by ‘The Woman You Love’ – which we can only assume is now a “buzz” track given the lack of follow-through (see: video, radio promo).

An issue I hope doesn’t plague the record; as I’ve long believed the “independent route” would always a tricky one for an artist such as Ms. Douglas. Yes, going it alone means she cuts the major label overheads and pockets more of the cha-ching. Yet, when you’re an artist who once had it all, is more $$$ worth the lack of recognition and low chartings the solo route is ridden with. Especially when, on the merit of your name alone, you’re still competing with the Beyonce‘s and Rihanna‘s of the world.

Put simply, here’s hoping the rest of the project follows a structured, clear-cut path; one that yields the results she deserves. For, she’s made the necessary strides vocally and as a performer to render herself worthy of success.

Your thoughts?

  2. jay January 24, 2012

the song hasnt gone for radio adds yet, it bieng sent soon! shes independent, so itl take time! but shell get there!

  3. ~Eve~ January 24, 2012

yesturday l think she was saying it goes to radios TODAY! and she was asking people to request, request, request because ‘that is what really counts’ she also mentioned being on 106 soon (bet with the video!)

Ashanti has decided to take an independent route. She is the only one pushing her project, unlike the “Rihannas” and the “Beyonces” of the industry, Ashanti is not backed by a huge mass of support. So you have to understand, things may take a bit more time with her. She confirmed via Ustream her video will be premiere in 2weeks. Additionally, the song went for radio ads yesterday and today also. She is not only her own artist, but she’s her own executive – and has to split her time. I much rather she take her time, and build an amazing project, instead of rushing out something and having it be lukewarm, or half-assed (again, like the “Rihannas and the Beyonces” of the industry) – She is a hardworker, and she more than anyone knows what’s best for her career. I have no doubt that Ashanti is making every right decision she has to make to ensure a successful turn out. She’s been through enough these past years to know what to do and what not to do. All we can do is wait, but something tells me, it will all be worth the patience.

@maricin – you right on that BUT she will never be the star she was back in 2002 – 2003 era when murda inc. was hot doing there thing it probley won’t get voted on the 106andpark countdown cus a lot of people ain’t really checking for her like that since beyonce, Rihanna, run the world and brandy making a come back with Monica! So yea she is pretty much done

  6. MarkyMark January 24, 2012

This WOMAN is doin it! It goes 4 radio ads today, “The Woman You Love” that is. Shes independent & already knows the routes of success. This time shes literally makin every move & by the time this video drops in 2-3 weeks she’ll have earned so much respect because the chick is STILL here & STILL makin hits. Ashanti’s no dummy ya’ll i see naysayers even flipping their previous negative statements because they truly missed the diva. 23k ppl watched her ustream after 4 year hiatus in music… who else is doing that? Hate it or love it, Ashanti Diva Princess is still on the throne & this time making moves of her own! Holla! Requests the new single & let this star get her shine on in music once again.

    Nahjee,

Who are you to say how big she’ll be? Ashanti has a LARGE fanbase. And the majority of the people who dislike her isn’t because they believe she has no talent, it’s because they’re stans of another female artist and only have tunnel vision. Rihanna has no vocal talent, but she puts out hot music and that’s what people want to hear. Beyonce’s album didn’t fair to well on the charts, does that mean no one is checking for her? Let me remind you, Ashanti’s stardom exceeded 2002-2003. She’s only had ONE album that didn’t sell over a million copies, and that was her last release. And we can all understand why. Irv Gotti didn’t promote her, and basically used that last album as an opportunity to fufill their contract. So, I’m not quite sure why people feel like Ashanti has no fans, or her success is dated, because it’s not. Her new music sounds HOT. She’s in charge of her own career now, and she has recieved nothing but positive feedback for her latest effort. Unlike Rihanna, she can actually sing (don’t get me wrong, I’m a Rihanna fan) and unlike Brandy and Monica, Ashanti has a mainstream appeal, so her comeback will definitely overshadow whatever it is they’re doing. Besides Beyonce, Ashanti is the only female artist, in my opinion and majority of others, who can do R&B and still do Pop. She has the ability to appeal to many audiences. Like I said, give it time, she will blow up. All over again.

  10. Nahjee January 24, 2012

@marcinis again another great comment… But she has to prove me wrong on this if she lands on the radio and they play the hell out of this single then I can take a bow. And I’m not saying she doesn’t have a fan base I know she do BUT her fan base ain’t really making no noise.. Rihanna has talent I love the way she puts on a show and yeah beyonce album may have flop BUT she has a video for almost every song on the album and some of them made the 106andpark countdown and beyonce got mad radio spins with them single to. Now I’m not a Rihanna or beyonce fan I’m just giving my opining on things. And again don’t count brandy out she is coming with some heat

  11. Lax January 24, 2012

For anyone in the entertainment industry, why not let them

AND OUT BEAUTFUL UNIVERSE PEOPLE, GHEEEEEEEEEZ!!!!!!!!

  12. Lax January 24, 2012

Rihanna isn’t claming to be the best she has never tried to hold any one hostage to listen to her music. RIHANNA is a free spirit that is doing rihanna
and what ever it is through all of the sh*t thrown at her shes still doing herself and has the attitude that she just do not give a fu*k what anybody has to say she’s going to keep right on doing it to she get enough.
And foir the SIMPLE REASON THAT I ADMIRE RIHANNA’S GET OFF HER ASS AND DO SOMETHING ATTITUDE NO MATTER WHAT I WILL SUPPORT HER BECAUSE SO MANY HAS WRITTEN RIHANNA OFF BECAUSE OF BEYONCE AND BEYONCE AINT RUNNING SH*T BUT HER OWN GAME AND ALL OF THESE Other Artist are sure in the hell running their sh*t right along with beyonce and all of the other acts thats out there with a stage and a MIC in their hands.
Withe Ashanti & Rihanna “Watch And Learn for real!!!!!!!!

  13. YOOSONDALOOSE January 24, 2012

Go Ashanti, but she is not promoting properly and there is no video. This song is dead already. Feel bad for her, the track was that great anyways.

  14. Royalkev January 24, 2012

    @ Marcinis

I totally agree that things are building and over time Ashanti can find success again. I don’t think that she’s an artist that fits in the Pop and R&B world. She has always seem to be more of an Urban artist to me. Brandy has had way more pop and international success. I think she’s the only “R&B” female act out now that can do both, along with Beyonce. Remember ‘Human’, it didn’t fare too well – but it was a pop album. Still, Brandy has plenty of work with crossover appeal. In Ashanti’s case I think she should take her time and produce quality work. She’s on the right track with this single (music wise) and it’s possible for her to be a vital artist today. Also for the record, I’m so tired of these people speaking of ‘4’ flopping(especially when the top albums of the year are at 2million and lower, when you don’t include the mighty Adele). Anyway, I wish Ashanti success.

  17. JDE97 January 24, 2012

Going the indie route won’t bode well for her commercial success and is, I suspect, the mark for the end of her career as a ‘pop star.’ She won’t make any new fans this way. At best, she might be able to convince a few sporadic urban stations to give her a few sporadic spins, but her material won’t be pushed as an independent act. And without a strong push for her music, she won’t be able to book many strong shows or appearances. Now wasn’t the right time for her to become an ‘indie’ artist. She should have tried to find another major label willing to take a chance on her.

  18. Mouth Almighty January 24, 2012

Yawn Yawn Yawn at some of the negative comments. Really? Rihanna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and whoever the hell else get their s*** done and are most certainly making more money than you. Who Cares? They are all doing their thing and they are all different. What ever happened to just wishing someone succes. Who cares who the supposed “Queen” is?

PS. LOLz @ the illuminati comment. Illuminati comments always make me laugh lolololol. Go and Rock in the corner of your room somewhere.

  19. meshi January 24, 2012

    Its not going to sell.
Stop with this other crap lets be real

To hell with some of y’all are saying. I’m rooting for Ashanti, Brandy, Monica, & Keyshia Cole for their major comebacks for 2012. I got nothing but mad love for all of those women!

  23. Songscribe January 24, 2012

For someone to have a successful comeback, they must extreamly work hard. As an indie, its gonna be difficult make a notable impact. I am not hating but for God’s sake Ashanti is not giftes vocally. She got the looks but i dont know about the voice to sing. And someone above said she and bey are the only artists who can do pop and r n b. I beg to differ, there are other artists who can do these two genrs excellently. Beyonce is mainly Pop and she is good at it, no doubt. However her vocals in r n b aint that good. She lacks emotion and control in that area. The only r n b song that i love from bey to date is Halo. I would like to pick Brandy for both r n b and urban pop. She sounds good in both. Her voice control is good.

  24. BLAH January 24, 2012

  29. Erik January 24, 2012

@Daz why wouldn’t a label want to sign her? Out of 4 majoy releases, only one has flopped. She has one of the top 20 selling singles of all time, billboard HISTORY, two #1 Albums, 2 #1 movies, numerous top 10 & top 40 singles and a decent (loyal) fanbase.. Even with the last album being a lackluster success, given the circumstances that would not deter a label from signing her. Her 3rd album, Concrete Rose, which is dubbed as a flop to most, debuted at #7 with 256K sold in the US.. it was certified plat just one month later. The album has sold more than 2Mill worldwide with only ONE commercial single. That’s not power?

She made the decision to be independent. After having FOUR record deals during her time (come up & after success) she’s ready to take it on her own. She’s been signed to Jive, Epic, Murder Inc/(Def Jam), & Universal. Why not take her own proceeds at this point? She writes her music and has decent chart fairings. So what is the worst that can happen? Her album bombs and sells about 100K first week? On the charts that may be week but she just pocketed $ 500K.. sounds like winning to me.. But what if she successfully garners a strong buzz & following before the album and debuts (first week) between 150-350K? Multiply times 5 and you get her profit AND she’s high on the chart. Either way it’s a win/win situation for her.

To add fire to the flame, music is NOT the only thing she has in the works. She has television, movie projects (plural), books and other things in the pot.. it’s even been reported that she has signed a 3 Movie deal with Morgan Creek Films..

The point is, give it time to come to fruition. She made a BUSINESS decision and SO FAR it’s working for her.
