Madonna’s ‘Masterpiece’ Bests Mary J. For ‘Best Song’ At Golden Globes

Looks like ‘Lucky Star’ singer Madonna‘s 2012 is already starting off on the right note. Despite mixed reviews for her directorial effort ‘W.E.’, Madge’s musical contribution to the film, ‘Masterpiece’, nabbed ‘Best Original Song’ at tonight’s Golden Globe ceremony (but the film later lost ‘Best Original Score’). Going head to head with fellow music monarch Mary J. Blige, for ‘The Living Proof’ from ‘The Help’, the win marks Madonna’s second Golden Globe  – the first being for ‘Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical’ in the 1996 musical ‘Evita’.

Reportedly putting the finishing touches on her forthcoming album ‘MDNA’, this victory certainly highlights a week that has seen her Madgesty in headlines for less flattering circumstances (see: digs at Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson).  Fans of the diva will next see her on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jay Leno continuing her promo rounds for the movie and upcoming album.

Until then get into this video of her acceptance speech and red carpet pics:

The win also marks yet another slap in the face for longtime rival, fellow diva Elton John.

    “Less than flattering circumstances?” B****, shut the f*** up! Nobody gives a s*** about her alleged ‘digs’ at Lady Reductive except TGJ — and that’s probably because her people indicated to Sam that if he kissed her ass enough on this blog (like ultra pointless post about MTN hitting #1…on the dance charts. lol) then maybe someday she’d grant you a 3 minute phone interview. Please.

    Madonna, the ONE and ONLY Queen of Pop is back. Roll with her, or get rolled over.

  2. Anne January 15, 2012

    @MAFALO— Madonna is the undisputed Queen of Pop. Congrats to her on her second GG.

    @MAFALO

    YOU BETTER F****** “PREACH” THAT S***!!!

    “W.E” HAS GARNERED CRITICAL ACCLAIM FROM NUMEROUS CRITICS AND EVEN RECENTLY GARNERED A FOUR OUT OF FIVE STAR RATING FROM ROGER EBERT – THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MOVIE CRITIC IN CINEMATIC HISTORY!!!

    SO… “MIXED REVIEWS” MY ASS!!!

    MASTERPIECE IS A GOOD SONG AND IF THIS SITE HAD ANY ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE OF CINEMA, THEY WOULD KNOW THAT WINNING AN AWARD AT A PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS CEREMONY LIKE THE GOLDEN GLOBES, OSCARS ETC… ISN’T AN AWARD LIKE “BEST POP SONG” “BEST R&B SONG” ETC… THE AWARD ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING!!!

    FILM MUSIC/SCORES AND MAINSTREAM/RADIO MUSIC ARE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF MUSIC!!! MARY’S SONG WAS GOOD, BUT SO WAS THE MUSIC FROM THE ARTIST AND THE DESCENDANTS!!!

    #I CAN’T WITH THIS BIASED AND UN-INTELLIGIBLE SITE

  4. Anne January 15, 2012

    @MAFALO- Meant to say THANK YOU, completely agree with your comment.

    Seems the Madonna machine is in full swing! 😀 It’s almost reminiscent to ROL era.

    After 3-4 years of teenybopper clowns Gaga-Katy-Ke$ha-LMFAO and the rest of their annoying little classmates running the asylum, 2012 might finally be a return to decency in music — with the established stars making a comeback while the silly seat warmers fade away.

  9. MaryJBligeNews January 16, 2012

    Madonna is trailer trash. I don’t like that old pale f***** looking m*****. Her song was NOT better than Mary’s. At all!!

    But, OLDonna doesn’t qualify for an Oscar nomination. Mary does.

    Stay tuned…

  10. Mike January 16, 2012

    Long Live the Queen of Pop. And bad week? Please TGJ is the only place reporting Madonna hating on Janet b/c it was a freaking joke and you’re creating drama to get more comments.

    You all realize that if Madonna paves the way for an established middle-aged artist to have a massive radio comeback it’s only going to be easier for other aging divas like Mariah and dare I even say Janet (if she makes a decent song) to get back on top too

  11. Mafalo January 16, 2012

    I bet Madonna’s trailer is probably worth 10x the cost of the roof you reside under. Hell, I bet Madonna has more money in her coat than you have in your savings account.

    <>

    The academy thought otherwise.

    Yeah, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t get nominated. Let me stop, because I don’t hate Mary J., and won’t let some s***-kicking horses ass like you prompt me to disrespect her. I’m sorry that she loss, but am more thrilled that Madonna won. That’s right B****, Madonna WON! You mad? Good. Chew on it until you choke. Your mom is “OLDonna.” Buh-Bye! 😀

    Reductive! 😉

    Can you PROVE that she bought it? Because if so, let’s see your proof! If you have none, then now is about the time that you need to be shutting the f*** up! You’ve already made an ass out of yourself, don’t make me have to join in and make an ass out of you too. It’s “Be kind to buzzards” week, I don’t wanna have to swat one.

  21. SWAG January 16, 2012

    I’m giving major side-eye for that “Less than flattering circumstances” remark. I love the spin That Grape Juice (fake ass TMZ) is trying to deliver. This past week has been multiple wins for Madonna and her publicity machine. High profile, much buzzed about interviews where she promotes herself, her new movie, her new album and forthcoming SB performance…and finally addresses what the world has been waiting for her to talk about: what she thinks of her little cyber generation impersonator (and not only did she cleverly shade her in a coy, subtle, witty way…but also ushered the “Reductive” into pop culture landshape.) Then, without even trying, she owns another celebrity who attempted to publicly call her out as having no chance of being awarded a Golden Globe for “Best Song” by simply winning.

    This past week has been a 1-2 punch by Madonna, and all she really did was show up! 99% of the artists you feature here everyday would LOVE to have had Madonna’s week.

    Try harder TGJ. Methinks you’re just salty because Madge, with 1 word, slayed the whole career of the temporary pop star you’ve been stanning hard for for the last year; probably hoping to get something from it. I think you’re seeing Gaga’s decline and trying to do damage control in order to not feel foolish for having rode her d*** so hard.

    BTW (that’s BY THE WAY…I’m not abbreviating the copycat song with the same initials), what’s with some of the posts being cited as “Sam” and others as “That Grape Juice Staff?” We all know it’s the same guy behind both monikers! 😛

  22. MISHKA January 16, 2012

    Well congrats to Madonna.

    And this article is poorly written.

  23. Katy+GaGa=Queen January 16, 2012

    @Era of Tin
    B**** please. Madonna will be lucky to have half the success that Katy Perry and Lasy Gaga had with their recent albums. Her new single probably wont even out perform Marry the Night.

  24. MissImpartial January 16, 2012

    @KATY+GAGA=QUEEN
    How can Madonna be lucky to have the level of success of Katy and Gaga when her success is four times more than of your faves????Lol

    That was then honey. She will be lucky to have the success that Teenage Dream and Born this Way had with her next album.

    -shrugs- Madonna could flop for the rest of her career and will still cast a huge shadow over both Gaga and Katy. Neither will EVER catch up to her in record sales or touch her overall success. Hell, the way the industry’s set up now, they virtually can’t. Both of those tarts are a loooong ways away from Madonna’s 300+ million tally, and neither are even in the sales neighborhood Madonna was in when she was 2-3 albums into her career. Ha! Madonna really doesn’t need another hit, she’s got more top 10 singles than God…but I sure wouldn’t bet against her…

    I CAN’T WITH THE STUPIDITY in this post.

    do ppl really compare Katy perry to “MADONNA” ?! 😯

    let Teenage dream outsell “21” first then talk about comparing your fav to madonna. 😡

  32. Absolved January 16, 2012

    The public is slowly but surely turning against Gaga. Between Adele coming along and making her whole presentation seem childish and silly…all the questionable press (BTW/EY plagiarizing claims, selling the album for 99cents, her promising the ‘album of the decade’ when it was anything but)…and now Madonna, the still active star who the public generally considers her to be a 2.0 version of, coming back out and dismissing her as “Reductive,” something about the earth just doesn’t seem too steady where Gaga is concerned now. I think BTW really only did as well as it did because she was still on a high from the success of The Fame and it was able to sponge off of it. The reviews have always been mixed. Only her stans seem to adore the album; the casual fans seem less satisfied with it, and I can’t tell that she made too many NEW fans during this era. Despite most of the singles going top 10, only BTW and EOG had any real impact. “Judas” and “You and I” both sort of floated in and out of the top 10, not making much of a dent…and by the time “Marry the Night” came out, it’s like the public and radio was tired of pretending that another Gaga single was something to automatically jump on. Now she’s rush recording a new album, which seems like an act of desperation because BTW didn’t have the legs it was supposed to.

    As far as Katy goes. Meh. I consider a 2011 version of Fergie. Flaky, frivolous pop music that 14 year old girls and 20-something gay guys appreciate. Soon as those 14 year old girls music tastes start to mature and those college age gay guys graduate and their lives isn’t all about partying, Katy will be in trouble. Linda Perry was right when she called her music “microwavable pop corn,” because that’s what it is. After the first 2 singles or so from Teenage Dream hit, radio just felt “safe” with her and so they automatically put the rest of them in heavy rotation and the frivolous pop corn eaters ate it up because it was there.

    Both Gaga and Katy have been so overexposed these past few years (not to mention the clones they ushered in like Ke$ha) that they almost HAVE to take a break now to avoid a backlash…but here’s the thing: that type of dance/electro/euro pop that they do has been going on for about 4 years now. And while it’s still popular, I think at this point it continues to dominate more because that’s just what’s there in abundance. People are starting to get sick of it, and I suspect 2012 is gonna be a year susceptible to a new crop of artists and a change in music DURING Gaga and Katy’s absence. When they return, if they try and serve up “2009-2011,” it’s gonna automatically flop because music will have moved on from that…but, at the same time, how likely will they be able to adapt to whatever style is next when the public sees them as “California Gurls” and “Poker Face?” Honestly, I think what happened to 50 Cent is gonna happen to them.

  33. Tanni January 16, 2012

    Many people lost the Golden Globe only to WIN an Oscar..
    Let’s hope Mary J and Viola get nominated and win !!
    Hell ,, Mary is shortlisted !! Meaning she’s in the top 39 songs to be picked !!!

  34. ThankMeLater January 16, 2012

    Mary should’ve won..w.e congrats to Madonna though

  35. Perry Power January 16, 2012

    @Absolved
    Your ignorant generalization of Katy Perry fans is almost as ridiculous as saying Katy will fall to the same fate as 50 Cent. You asume that her fans will all move on in a year or two, but let me remind you people said the same thing about Britney and Christina and their fans stuck by them for over a decade. New artist have came along through out their careers too, but it didnt make a difference. There’s no rule saying you can’t like both artist. The crop of “clones” (For Gaga: Ke$ha; for Katy Jessie J) you speak of are no threat to anyone. They are building up a fan base of their own.

    I guessing your one of those people who judge Katy based off her singles, but doesn’t bother to listen to anything else. (Do you really think Linda Perry listened to the entire Teenage Dream album and the entire One of the Boys album?)The singles like Hot N Cold, California Gurls, and Last Friday Night were designed for radio, frivolous pop as you call it. But there are other songs like Not Like The Movies, Lost, Im Still Breathing, and Who Am I Living For that counter those songs. Radio plays her music because they know it will get listeners because people love her music.

    Katy Perry’s sound is not dance/euro/electronic, so if that sound dies out it won’t make a difference. You forget her debut album, along with half the songs off Teenage Dream, are pop/rock. Infact, Katy is the only mainstream pop act to not put out a dance/electronic/euro influenced album. There are multiple genres on Teenage Dream, it’s not one toned.

    And as far as image goes, Katy has change her look multiple times, I can assure adapting to a new look will be no mission for her 😉

  36. TruthTeller January 16, 2012

    Antonia Banderas is so hot. He can get it.
    Poor MJB, she looked so depressed. LOL

    Oh well, she ll win the Oscar anyway. Those moffos ain t gonna hand out anything to Madonna. They ll snub her just ike they did with Evita.
