Madonna’s ‘WE’ Bombs

Madonna may be a Pop icon, but when it comes to making or starring in movies, she really is a lost cause.

From ‘Four Rooms’  to ‘Swept Away‘, Ms. ‘Material Girl‘ – in many ways- is to film what Edward Scissorhands is to cosmetology.

A nightmarish wreck.

So, in what will be sure to have much of her fan base seething with rage, today saw her creative cause face yet another blow.

Her latest movie ,’WE‘ has bombed.

Full story below…

With only £182, 914 made in its opening weekend, the flick failed to enter the the Top Ten of the UK Box Office.

This, despite the backing of an intense promotional campaign which included, a now viral interview with chat show royal Graham Norton, advertisements on the London underground and her win at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, to name just three.

Box office top ten below:

1. (1) War Horse – £3,202,493
2. (-) Haywire – £1,197,866
3. (-) Underworld: Awakening – £1,114,327
4. (3) Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows – £956,434
5. (2) The Iron Lady – £949,517
6. (-) The Sitter – £910,382
7. (4) Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – £815,330
8. (7) The Artist – £770,403
9. (8) Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked – £568,758
10. (9) Puss in Boots – £568,590

Maybe if she had spent less time talking about Lady GaGa and more time dishing on this movie, it wouldn’t have done so badly.

Yes, while we understand the motive behind airing out her thoughts on the ‘Heavy Metal Lover‘, it is clear that this is one attention grabbing tool that has worked against Cicconne, with more people interested in her scathing remarks than actually going out to see the film those remarks were in aid of.

Either way, here’s to hoping her  upcoming LP ‘MDNA‘ fares much better than this did, as so much is riding on its success.

Honestly, Sam, are u suprised? Cause I’m not. I mean, her previous movies DID bomb. Someone told me that the Golden Globe jury doesn’t even look at movies before nominating them. So big deal if it got one. However, from the trailer, the movie doesn’t look bad.

  8. hausofjamey January 23, 2012

b**** r u serious? have u watched ANY of madonna’s interviews? all she does is talk about her movie. maybe u should spend more time getting actual facts than obsessing over rihanna.

Oh cmon… you people havent paid attention to this craptastic movie since it premiered at the Venice Film Festival months back. IT BOMBED WITH THE CRITICS WORLDWIDE!!! Even current US critics have trashed this. So far only 37% RATING on rottentomatoes.com which is an epicfail. Any grade under 60% is a FLOPPPP!!!!! This is NOT a surprise, not one iota. Main criticism says movie plays like a music vid concentrating on fashion and brand names as opposed to script and plotline. Critics all over the world laughed at this mockery of a flick!! Truth!!!

LMFAO @ So much is riding on its success as if she isnt already a F***** LEGEND. Get off of Gaga’s played out ass d***.

  12. Jay January 23, 2012

The f-ing movie isn’t even out in the US and besides could your favs direct a movie? Could Janet? Whitney? Beyonce? Not without extreme guidance. Regardless of how much money it makes Madonna is a creative force to be reckoned with. The movie is always 2nd to her music career b/c that/s why fans love Madonna. And even if the movie was Gone with the Wind it still would have been torn to shreds by critics b/c Madonna directed it. Movie critics ALWAYS try to bring Madonna down even before they see her work.

LMFAO at this old crustry inbred b**** trying to be multi-talented like her highness Janet Damita Johova Jackson.

Somebody tell this old h** to stick to means of relevancy that she is better suited for like; french kissing much prettier and younger woman on live t.v., spreading that butter for all the men in Hollywood, or introducing Queen J so that she can give a performances that she could only dream of ever come close to doing .

  14. whatever January 23, 2012

Madonna is a terrible actress. What makes people think she would be a good director? She sucks at singing and is only marginally better at dancing. She ‘s the most UNtalented “legend” of the past century.

    She was scared of Whitney

    She was shook over Mariah

    She was scared of Janet

In conclusion, Madonna is the the most insecure fraud in music history. Like legendary singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell said, Madonna’s success is down to marketing and knowing the right people.

(Maybe if she had spent less time talking about Lady GaGa and more time dishing on this movie, it wouldn’t have done so badly) KARMA!!!!!!!!!!!

WHO SHE THINK SHE IS? BEYONCE? PRINCE? JENNIFER HUDSON?

    LMAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  17. Get Real January 24, 2012

This blog is so messy and gay, Madonna’s only scathing remarks against Gaga wasn’t even scathing she called Born this Way Reductive, and went on to say that she was raw , talented, and had the “it” factor in the rest of the interview… Her interviewers plague her with the gaga questions and she always responds briefly, and proceeds to talk about her movie obsessively, – that grapejuice is “thatshade-o-phile.com

  18. Mark January 24, 2012

But everyone loved Edward scissorhands’ haircuts….there’s always something wrong in these posts.

  19. Lamone January 24, 2012

It completely bombed with critics in the UK, as it was released at the same time as War Horse, smaller private cinemas in richer areas decided not to show WE but War Horse instead. And seeing as WE was relying on independent cinemas in richer areas of the UK to get a large percentage of it’s takings, that is the cause of the flop. Also, it is a terrible film! I do feel a little for Madge, though. She clearly worked very hard on the film and it is likely to bomb here in the US too!

  20. SLAYFANISTANN. January 24, 2012

Am I the only one who sees the “WE” necklace she’s wearing???

  21. ♛ pop royalty ♛ ( iMusic ) January 24, 2012

    Every “MASTERPIECE” is misunderstood.

  22. AliensAreOurMasters January 24, 2012

She didn’t even promote it plus she should have released AFTER she released her album and single. That was dumb on her part but I still like her.

  23. JohnVidal January 24, 2012

Ridiculous article! You all know I love to defend Gaga. But what the hell does she have to do with this? Who was expecting a succes from this movie? Was it even released big way? I mean, of course the movie was not going to do well but it´s not cos Madonna talked about Gaga. PLEASE

  24. socialstudy1 January 24, 2012

    HA!! 🙂

  25. YourMadgesty January 24, 2012

Got tired and clocked on your repetitive shade with Rihanna..
So you move on to Madonna, eh?! =\.

Sam, you are transparent and reductive as you are pressed.
What is YOUR problem with seeing successful women have a minor fail, huh?

Your highly biased opinion is going to be the ultimate end of ThatGrapeJuice
If you keep it up, Gal.
And Madonna is STILL going to be THE QUEEN OF POP settled upon her throne. =D.

  26. MRDIVABITCH January 24, 2012

Crusty old flop b****, serves her right for attacking Gaga

  27. Timmy January 24, 2012

Lol @ Puss in Boots entering the top 10. Gaga used Americano in that movie. Lmao x gaga is slaying Madonna so much even when she’s not trying. Lol. Ha.

  28. Deveal2014 January 24, 2012

That’s what the h** get for buying golden globes for movies that’s not even out.

  29. Sean January 24, 2012

God you GaGa and janet fans are pathetic. Your favs wish they could have Madonna’s success. How’s Janet doing? Oh that’s right selling weight loss s*** on QVC while Madge sells out stadiums. And GaGa is already making the public tire of her copy cat antics.

  30. RHI RHI IS QUEEN January 25, 2012
