BET Bans Nicki Minaj’s ‘Stupid Hoe’

Published: Wednesday 1st Feb 2012 by David

It may be one of the year’s biggest releases, but it seems BET just aren’t feeling Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Stupid Hoe‘.

Because, less than a fortnight after the release of its controversial video, the network have banned it, days before the star takes to Superbowl 2012 to perform with Madonna.

Full story below…

According to TMZ, a rep from the network confirmed that is has been pulled from their playlist, but did not specify why.

However, some reports cite the clip’s ‘explicit’ nature as the reason for its ban, as it features the Rapper repeat the word ‘Hoe’ several times and at one point perform enticing dance moves in a steel cage.

Sure to strike up heated debate, ‘Hoe’s ban follows a number of visuals the network has banned in recent years.

In 2010, Ciara‘s ‘Ride’ was pulled from the channel for a similar reason and forced to network to rethink their censorship policies, after facing  sexism claims  from the star’s fan base.

To be honest, with her upcoming gigs at the Superbowl, Grammys,  Ice Age:Continental Drift set to give her another #1 album in April, we’re sure this is the least of Minaj’s worries.

Especially when the clip’s sole purpose was to build buzz for the project, which- as we can all see- has done just that.

The way we see it, it’s better to have a new video banned than to have never had a new video played at all.

Isn’t that right Bubbles.

A ban is not going to slow Ms. Onika down, especially since this is only a buzz single. All this does it make her more buzzworthy…something to talk about and get her in the minds of the masses.

    So ready for PF: RR!!!

  2. GREG February 1, 2012

BET has got to be joking, all the rap and hip hop videos that negatively portray women and now they want to ban Nicki?????….GTFOH

  3. MISHKA February 1, 2012

Yes she will get the buzz, but the damages on her credibility are done . Who takes an artist singing about “nappy headed chicks” and “ni_ga m*****” seriously?

I didn’t think she was a serious contender for Grammy for Best New Artist in the first place but after ‘Stupid H**’ I’m quite sure she won’t win this.

  4. LindseyMari February 1, 2012

OMG, the shade… “Isn’t that right Bubbles?”

But for real, was there a clean version to this? I never thought it was meant to be played on TV in the first place. Besides, all BET has for video airplay is 106 & Park anyways. It’s not like it’ll make or break the Nicki.

  5. LindseyMari February 1, 2012

^^ Nicki*, not “the Nicki”. -___-

  6. The Music Junkie February 1, 2012

    @MISHKA you said it all.
I used to be a huge Nicki Minaj Fan and I mean HUGE, back in her mixtape days. Even when she released Pink Friday, I was still a fan of the slightly more commercial Nicki, but after Superbass and now this “Stupid H**” s***, I am beginning to think that her talent is very limited, or that she has lost touch with the music and is chasing the money (like most music acts today).
    J Cole deserves that Grammy.

Again….TGJ, when y’all gonna get your heads from up Nicki’s Ass????

  11. Texas Cowgirl February 1, 2012

NICKI DID NOT MAKE THE VIDEO FOR NETWORK TV. SHE IS GETTING MILLIONS OF VIEWS ON VEVO. YOU KNOW THIS!!!
BUT YOU, GUYS MUST DO AN STORY ON HER EVERY DAY!!!!

  12. RyanS February 1, 2012

Im not surprised too much swearing in it to try cover it up, what would she say instead of “h**”?

  13. Minajesty February 1, 2012

Nicki and her team are the real stupid h***. this is her worst song, why on earth would you release this? im still buying the album but “va va voom” better impress me nicki.

  14. Roman February 1, 2012

This is ridiculous, why didn’t they ban Rihanna’s You Da One. I mean Nicki’s cage act does nothing to my d*** there’s nothing enticing. BET just love to throw shade at Nicki. Ie, the BET awards. Anyway Nicki doesn’t need BET, they need her more tbh!

  15. Queen Of Dragging [Hottie] February 1, 2012

    I love STUPID H**

  16. Those That Cannot Do, Stan February 1, 2012

Hmmm but then you look at the other videos on BET and you’ve got to wonder, oh well. It pretty much hit it’s mark online and got people talking, the ban can’t do much more than create more buzz.

  17. YOOSONDALOOSE February 1, 2012

A BET ban won’t do anything for the songs chart performance I think, at the end of the day it is a promo single and she isn’t too fussed about BET. If MTV or UK/US channels completely ban it, then she has a problem.

  18. KERI FAN February 1, 2012

the song is not that good.

  19. Kmisha February 1, 2012

NICKI IS DISSING LIL KIM AGAIN .

I agree. And they think jher dancing in the cage is too sexual?! They clearly haven’t seen Shakira’s She Wolf vid.

  22. Bey Fan… February 1, 2012

I can take or leave the song….. I thought the video was cool tho..

  23. Truff February 1, 2012

  24. 80s Baby February 1, 2012

They banned it because it was the stupidest song and video they’d ever heard/seen.

  25. Girrrl February 1, 2012

That song is offensive to black women. I’m so glad that.BET banned it. They are slowly getting in my good graces again.

  26. SHESDUMB February 1, 2012

HOW WOULD THEY INTRODUCE THE VIDEO ON 106 AND PARK?
THERES NO CENSORED VERSION SO THEY CANT SAY H** ON THE NETWORK THAT IS THE ONL REASON WHY THEY BANNED IT.

  27. mannymanw February 1, 2012

    Im so sick of EBT

  28. RDK February 1, 2012

but nicki said it wasn’t for tv in the first place, way before she release the video..nicki don’t used cures words on live tv,she proved that in the pass,so them banning it don’t make any sense because it wasn’t for tv in the first place.

  29. Davon February 1, 2012

    lol good I’m glad

  30. THATORANGEJUICE February 1, 2012

wow.sow now grape juice is excited the video got banned?wooooooow.smh, they act like this woman is perfect, her gig at the superbowl is only a feature, its madonna’s show!stop fronting, her two singles are not doing so good,so she pushed her album back, for her sake va va voom has to be a hit,cuz thats already two strikes…..she stated she dared any rap bicth to come out,i see LOLA MONROE…..BRIANNA……LIL KIM….EVE……TRINA AND MY FAVE MISSY are coming,so wonder whats shes gonna do,missy is and i promise will SLAY ALL!!

  31. dangrspot February 1, 2012

she should of censored the words to say Stupid Doe as in (Jane Doe). If the lyrics were acutually the thing that caused the BAN. If it was the dancing… SMH cuz there is way more explicit things they play that these video DOES be going off lol

  32. Speechless February 1, 2012

Just like Sam to take up for her. Sucks to be you right now garbaj especially when she always kisses up to BET. *waits for missy*

  33. A February 1, 2012

She lost her creditablity by using offensive remarks “n*gger m*****…nappy head ho”
I don’t get how this was a diss towards Lil Kim. Seems like she was dissing her own race with this awful video. I do not respect the message of the video, hell there was no lyrical showmanship as expected from a “rapper”.

  34. ♛ pop royalty ♛ ( iMusic ) February 1, 2012

it was a buzz single and it did the job.

    right ?! 😉

  35. KELIS February 1, 2012

  37. Queen Tashia February 1, 2012

I knew they was going to do that…sh!t SHE had to know that

  38. I’ma have to send her to her maker February 1, 2012

This is not very surprising considering they banned rihanna’s rude boy video and that video and song was a big hit. They are so childish. Okay, the song Stupid h** was really dumb and feels like it was slowing my IQ down the more I listened to it but seriously they have something against very s*** black women like nicki and rihanna. They can suck my ass becuz they are the most sexist channel on the network. F*** them.

  39. DUNKFAN February 1, 2012

Thank God, last thing we need is little Black girls under 10 calling each other stupid h***.

  40. LAX February 1, 2012

    @Keri Fan and @Kmisha

STFU ya just mad KERI HiLSON have no career Your mad Nicki Minaj and Rihanna running the game right now

  41. Drake&CiaraFan February 1, 2012

BET’s main guidlines are too things:
    * If a vid is popular online, dont show it
    * If the female singer performing makes that ugly women thats the head of the network feel insecure, ban it

  42. Pucci February 1, 2012

I think its quite amazing that I have not yet heard about BET banning a male rap video or a male video period. There are some very suggestive thing in alot of their songs & videos. #smh

    @Dunkfan

Little black girls under the age of 10, will hear & see the song anyway. So your point is irrelevant.

  43. Jessica February 1, 2012

Good!!! Finally a music tv station realize this artist is TRASH!!! People should call her Silly Ho like the TLC song!!! Nicki is a mindless chicken head next to Rhianna- no damn brain smarts. LMAO!!! She’s a FLOP CLONE OF A CLOWN, SHE’S FINISHED WITH HER FAKE SELF, LMAO!!! BYE NICKI, DON’T LET THE DOOR HIT YOUR PLASTIC BEHIND!!! LMAO!!!

  44. kayla February 1, 2012

    #StupidHoe

  45. D.Scott February 1, 2012

Was it that bad / is it bad that I didn’t think it was that bad relatively considering the state today’s media and society?

  46. Jordan February 1, 2012

Not the “bubbles” shade at the end, Lmao

  47. tam February 2, 2012

It doesn’t matter, THIS IS BET/EBT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT! I am surprised they even still have 106th N Park. Who the hell still watches that? If TRL went off the air 5 years ago, why the hell is 106th N Park still showing? She has well over 10 million viewers for the video on youtube. Nobody cares about watching music videos on TV anymore. Even though I hate “Stupid H**” and find the video to be humiliating, retarded, and just, stupid, THIS AINT GOING TO DO S*** TO NICKI’S CAREER!

  48. lilshorty February 3, 2012

    I think is ok
