Has Britney Spears been tapped by Simon Cowell to judge the next season of ‘The X Factor (US)’?
According to Cowell himself the answer is ‘yes’!

Cowell briefly chatted with Billy Bush of ‘The Billy Bush Show’ where he was asked directly about Spears’ qualifications for the role. The ‘King of Mean’ responded, “I’m fascinated by [Britney.] The fact that she’s one of the most talked about – not just pop stars – but people in the world today, means that you’ve got this star power.” He later added, “I would think that if she’s managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, [‘X Factor’ would be] a walk in the park. She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial, there’s a reason for that.”
While there’s no denying Britney Spears arguably has the greatest pop star career of anyone post-2000, how much of that [post-2006] can truly be said was thanks to her? Lets put this into perspective. The 30-year-old has been an active recording artist since 1998. In 2006 she suffered a metal breakdown that she has never fully able to bounce back from. For most of the latter half of her career the ‘Crazy’ singer has had very little involvement in her artistry whatsoever and appears to be very content with not being the “ringleader”.
Furthermore, Spears doesn’t have the musicianship nor personality (as of lately) to offer any constructive criticism to ‘X Factor”s singing hopefuls, let alone to make good TV once her new car smell wears off. As seen with most of her promotional interviews and TV spots during the promotion of ‘Circus’ and ‘Femme Fatale’…the lights are on but there’s no one home.
