Hot Shot: Janet Jackson Sports Slimmer Figure

Published: Wednesday 8th Feb 2012 by Sam

The Queen of Pop Janet Jackson has spent the last month plugging NutriSystems healthy eating regime. And by the looks of the star last night, it’s working a sweet treat for her physique.

Rocking a noticeably slimmer frame, the diva was snapped leaving Los Angeles at the city’s L.A.X airport.

As history has taught any true music follower, a slimmed-down Janet usually spells a new project. A pattern we hope is re-affirmed here. For, as her ‘Number Ones’ tour showcased, there’s plenty more fuel in the tank.

———–

Making somewhat of a detour…

Call it selfish, but yours truly is not here for the “she’s done did it all” excuse churned out far too often by easily appeased Janet fans. Madonna, love or loathe her, has rightly embraced today’s reality that even older artists can’t rest on the laurels of their heyday.

After all, in today’s “blink and you miss em” industry, many an act are only as hot as their last hit. And, as misguided as her recent shade towards Janet was, Ms. Jackson could indeed learn something from the Material Girl’s approach. For, the 00’s have seen her add many a new “moment” and “classic” to a career which was already legendary by the end of the 90’s. A position she shared with Janet.

I can only hope the necessary calls (preferably to Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Darkchild) have been made to ensure the newer generation are reminded of why she is who she is.

Anyway, enough of my rambling…

Your thoughts?

I agree man, JANET is AMAZING, BUT she slipping. If ole’ Madonna can stretch that cooch all over the stage from her YOGA classes, Janet can step it up & get back hot & kill some dance songs 4 us! –EXCLAMATION!

  2. Demarcus February 8, 2012

I need a new Janet album right now. I hope she reunites with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and releases something this year.

  3. brotha1461 February 8, 2012

Damn!!!! Janet u done it again can”t wait for the new cd

  4. Onyx February 8, 2012

Queen of Pop my ASS, God knows i love Janet but that was a tittle THE MADONNA’S FANS give to her in the beginnings of the 80’s since her first album, while Janet was trying to make a name by herself in the industry with her 2 first albums that were a flop. I love Janet but she is not in the same line of Michael Jackson or Madonna. MJ and MDNA are part of Pop Culture, they are sitting on the throne. I dont care much about sales but where is Janet in the best selling Music Artist, not even in the top ten.

List of the 10 best selling Music Artists:
    1- The Beatles
    2- Elvis Presley
    3- Michael Jackson
    4- Madonna
    5- Elton John
    6- Led Zeppelin
    7- Queen
    8- ABBA
    9- Mariah Carey
    10- Celine Dion

  5. haterzstaypressed February 8, 2012

Janet Jackson is NOT the Queen of Pop. Just because her fans bestowed that title upon her does not a queen make. Michael Jackson was dubbed the King of Pop by his fans, music peers, music critics, the industry and hell even his haters. Madonna was given her title Queen of Pop in the same way. Janet Jackson maybe the Queen of urban/r&b or Princess of Pop but she is hardly the queen of anything. I love my girl Janet because she pioneered and innovated with her videos – chicks copy her till this day. But make no mistake…. she is not the Queen of Pop.

With that said I hope Janet comes out with an album soon or she should announce her retirement from music. Either which way, she shouldn’t keep her fans waiting like this. I understand it’s only been a few years since Michael’s death but she’s toured and filmed movies. She needs to do music or hang it up.

JANET IS OUT LIVING HER LIFE!

  8. Theman February 8, 2012

Mariahs sales > Madonna’s. Janet has slimmed down quite a bit.

  9. angel1814 February 8, 2012

1st of all onyx ur dont appear to be to knowledgeable of janet jackson…. she is in the top ten most successful artiist of all times its in the guiness book a
of worlds records.. so stop slighting her … her legacy and her as being 1 the most influetial and celebrated artist of all times speaks volumes.. and i might add a career that spands almost 4 decades says enough.. she has nothing to prove… but im waiting for the album..

  10. Aishaaguilerakeys February 8, 2012

Sam, I agree with w/ what Sam said about Madonna. She has managed to stay relevant all these yrs, contrary to other artists from her generation, by putting out solid material.

  11. angel1814 February 8, 2012

    shes ready for a comeback..

  13. Onyx February 8, 2012

    @angel1814
I love Janet but Madonna is in another level, Janet has nobody to compete this day, Madonna has Lady Gaga and thats happen only cuz she is still relevant today as when she debuted. MDNA had all that you say Janet’s have and more,

  14. Chitownchic1814 February 8, 2012

LMFAO @ “The Queen Of Pop” please… Janet’s music is too DIVERSE for her title to just be limited to “Pop”. As far as I’m concerned, Madonna can HAVE that title. Janet’s done everything Pop, to Rock, R&B to Hip Hop and SO much more. being the obsessed Janet stan that i am, I just call her the Queen Of Music period. 🙂

  15. Dom February 8, 2012

What Janet needs to do is put a lil song out for her fan and just to let people know she coming.. and to sit Madonna’s ass down..she do look like she slimmed down and ready to get back out there I can’t wait and Janet will always be better then Madonna’s!!!!

  16. Kerry Johnson February 8, 2012

Rihanna is the GODDESS of MUSIC 🙂

  17. Spunkypoop2001 February 8, 2012

JANET JACKSON IS THE QUEEN OF POP AND ACTUALLY SHARES THE TITLE WITH MADONNA. Both are the Ying and Yang of this industry! Get your LIFE people….and stop hating on the Queen’s legacy and YES she is POP Royalty. She may not have been making music her entire life but she was born into this b**** and Madonna and others were home watching her on TV. lol.

  18. Kerry Johnson February 8, 2012

Rihanna will kick everyones ass 🙂

  19. Lucky star February 8, 2012

    @Spunkypoop2001
Madonna and other were watching her on Tv, i think her brothers were the famous one and even if that is true, Madonna has to do everything by herself and that’s has MERIT my sister, Janet’s brothers work for her already to have a name in the Music industry.

  20. BC February 8, 2012

Janet still got the haters pressed…….. 🙂

  21. B Lamont February 8, 2012

    @lucky star

Believe that BS all you want, but it has NO MERIT at all!!! Ask yourself this one question: If being a Jackson is the reason Janet has been so successful, then why aren’t any of her other brothers? Or why weren’t her first two records?

Janet is an ICON in her own right and on her own merits.

@BC, EXACTLY…all she did was walk out of an airport and these kids on here are pressed to talk about her.

Anyway, I can’t wait for a new Janet album, but I will be patient and let her take her time to make the best record and put her all into every bit of it.

  22. Boopi February 8, 2012

    JANEEEEEEEEEEET!!!! 😀

  23. Kerry Johnson February 8, 2012

    I’m Horny
    suck my d*** plz!!!!!

  24. Lucky star February 8, 2012

    @B Lamont
I like Janet, i do think she is very talented but Madonna work more harder than her to get a contract record than Janet, that is the true.

  25. Anne February 8, 2012

Sam get over it. Madonna is busy remimding everyone of her status as the REAL QUEEN OF POP, while Janet is busy reminding overweight people to get on Nutrisystem.

  26. Anne February 8, 2012

It’s so silly fot SAM and other Janet fans to try to convince others and themselves that Janet is or was the Queen of Pop when that just wasn’t the case. Just because she is your fav doesn’t mean you can rewrite history. Prince was always my fav but you don’t hear me calling him King of Pop. Whether I like it or not, Michael will always have that title. I just read a Billboard article today that referred to Madonna as THE Queen of Pop, just like all other credible sources. Janet’s music was even considered mainly pop and let’s face, Madonna has had more influence on Pop culture than any other female artist.

  27. royalkev February 8, 2012

I want a Janet comeback just as much as the next Janet stan does, but I just think it’s a little unfair to imply that Janet has something to prove. It seems people respond to this pair as if they enjoy sharing the same liberties. I think her and Madonna have shared the QOP title the longest out of any 2 divas and for very different reasons. Janet can’t possibly acheieve the same success Madonna has in the same way – because their simply not given the same advantages.

Madonna has Clear Channel, Janet has been banned from radio. Madonna has been praised for her controversy and Janet is ridculed for it. She’s actually done the complete opposite at one time, being one of the main contributors for women in pop that have given the genre some substance (when it had a reputation for only being full of fluff).

These women are in 2 completely different stages of there careers for very different reasons. People always stress that Madge has had this marvelous run since the 80’s, when in actuality Janet has been extremely successful in the 80’s and 90’s (and not so much in the 00’s according to some) and Madonna has been successful in the 80’s and 00’s (and saw her decline in the 90’s). So, both women have have a marvelous 2 decades of dominating and sat out for one. In my book when there was Janet there was Madge (and vice versa).

I think at this stage in Janet’s career she should forget about getting promotion from mainstream radio – it’s in her best interest to market herself through word of the mouth, the internet, touring and special events. People (as well as the media) recognize what Janet does and continue to bring to the table, it’s just not awarded the same way it is for Madonna. That means you have to remove the significance that’s placed on these outlets that clearly show favoritism and go about promoting janet with a completely different approach.

So much could be said about this , but the bottom line is that Janet should do her part and give us top notch material with those producers that suit her best and then market herself properly. It’s sad that the marketing part is becoming the biggest factor in the equation here. Janet won’t get the same boost Madonna does, even though she deserves it more. Although most of us understand that we still act as if she’s suppose to do some magic trick and pull a rabbit out of her hat! She can on strategize to counter all her obstacles that lie ahead with a brand new way of going about it. It’s important that she find something different to capitalize off of.

  28. Anne February 8, 2012

Correction: Janet’s music wasn’t even considered mainly pop (it was mainly R&B).

  29. Jay February 8, 2012

I like Janet but Madonna is the one and only Queen of Pop. No other female matches her legacy or influence and continued relevance 30 years later

  30. tyra February 8, 2012

I THINK THEY SHARE THE TITLE OF QUEEN OF POP DEPENDING ON WHICH VIEW U R LOOKING AT TO BE HONEST

  31. Chitownchic1814 February 8, 2012

@KerryJonhson Rihanna’s good and everything, But I’d rather stan for the woman how has 35 #1 hits, not 11. I’d rather stan for the woman that sold 130,000,000 albums, not 5.5 million. I’d rather stan for the woman who has 6 #1 albums, not zero.I’d rather stan for the woman who has 6 grammys, not 4, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I’d rather stan for the woman who was the first to make dark red hair popular, not somebody who just copied.. no shade but… ¯\(ツ)/¯

  32. Anne February 8, 2012

It’s not that Janet did not have a lot of success it’s that Madonna had and will most likely continue to have more and she has been more influential in the pure pop arena. She has sold more albums, has higher grossing tours and has had more hits. Plus she was the one who the masses gave the title to in the 80’s because her career took off FIRST. Once you get the title it doesn’t get stripped away because the next big thing comes along. Madonna held on to that title with hard work and longevity. I think it is more difficult for anyone who wasn’t born by or before the mid 70’s to give a valid opinion on this because they won’t be basing it on a clear memory of the times like I am.

  33. royalkev February 8, 2012

Now Janet’s catalog is mainly R&B??? Are you even serious? Her music was very universal, but please don’t act like Janet was always some urban artist. She’s not Keyshia Cole, Mary J or even Toni Braxton or Jill Scott and nothing about her ever was.

    http://www.thepagewithroyalkev.com

  34. Anne February 8, 2012

One more point, there can only be ONE QUEEN OF POP! That sharing a title nonsense that some of Janet’s fans are on this blogsite cooking up won’t fly. When Mary J. made it big people were quick to remind everyone that Aretha is the one and only queen of soul and forever will be. That’s why the clear distinction of Hip Hop/Soul was given to Mary. Fans of Janet would do better at establishing her as the Queen of R&B, the pop title was taken by Madonna along time ago, and coming from someone who remembers, MADONNA NEVER SHARED HER TITLE!

  35. Anne February 8, 2012

Sure Janet’s music is universal and she definitely made her mark on the Pop world. Doesn’ t change the fact that Madonna came first, made a bigger impact overall, was crowned Queen, and never lost her title or shared her seat on the throne!

  36. royalkev February 8, 2012

It’s funny that people mention how Madge had bigger tours than Janet (which wasn’t the case until around the SuperBowl). Janet had the biggest debut tour ever, after Madonna already established herself. Madonna was always releasing more material, but pretty much on the same level as Janet. Madonna had 9 studio albums since she was established by 2004( and12#1’s by 2004) and Janet had 6 studio albums since she was established by 2004,( and10#1’s by 2004). It was pretty much neck and neck between these 2 women before Madonna was able to out do janet after SB. I would have love to see the end result of this with anyone using things to their advantage or someone losing out do to a big injustice. In other words the QOP should just have been a fair race to the finish line. Still, these women have plenty of records the other doesn’t have, so it’s silly to make it seem like only one diva stood tall above another.

Thank God there is still people who could understand the different between Duchesses and Queens.

  40. Anne February 8, 2012

Madonna doesn’t have to top everyone in every statistical category or breakdown to keep her title, she just had to earn it first and keep it with longevity and she did so. The same goes for Michael, Aretha, and Mary. YOU CAN’T SUCCESSFULLY ARGUE AGAINST HISTORY.

  41. ♛ pop royalty ♛ ( iMusic ) February 8, 2012

Janet is only Queen of POP in @sam’s Planet called jANItER !! ” a la jupiter”

what queen wait till the illuminati kill his brother to have a comeback. only her fans from JANITER miss her.

MADONNA is music industry’s and illuminati’s highest priests. OPRAH is the next in Line.

No JanITOR on board. and this b**** looks anorexic , maybe she saw queen of pop’s E P I C performance ” most viewed performance in the history of US television ” and broke other records in just one f*****’ night =====>

http://www.madonnarama.com/posts-en/2012/02/07/madonna-gets-biggest-tv-audience-in-us-history-and-breaks-record-on-twitter/ and Janitor ” AKA. TiTs jackson” got depressed and stopped eating since then.

and she’s pulling a BLACK version of nicole richie i see 😆

YOU ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR LAST WORK. and since her latest work was a FLOP ” even by her standards , let alone being ONLy @sam’s queen of pop”

Conclusion : she’s an anorexic flop and never a queen of pop . ” it rhymes” 😆

WHEN WILL PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT Both these women Madonna and Janet are the Queens of Pop music.

  45. Edgy_Timeless February 8, 2012

Janet is taking her time with her work. Why should she rush to put out something just cause Madge have. I wouldnt want Janet to come out with some track that was recorded for Hanna Mantanna or the Disney Channel. When Janet comes back out I think she’s going to give us some real good R&B.

  46. Anne February 8, 2012

As soon as we are able travel back to the 80’s in a time capsule and give Janet a second chance to nab the title first. Since that will never happen, the answer to your question (SHELTOP) is NEVER! That’s it for me for now, besides, history speaks for itself.

  47. Eric February 8, 2012

Janet has been called the Queen of Pop since the Rhythm Nation days. To say Janet is not the Queen of Pop is just dum stupid. She influence all the girls you see today. Ppl need to stop being ignorant, and stop hating. Janet got all of yall, bitching and all she did was walked through the airport. smh!

    Madonna- Queen of Pop 80s
Janet Jackson- Queen of Pop 90s
    Beyonce- Queen of Pop 00s
(Still Questionable)- Queen of Pop 10s

    End of Story!

  49. RATEDX( LEGENDS ARE BORN NOT BOUGHT) February 8, 2012

there’s only 1 queen of pop and that title goes to madonna…..

this is not a whos the best entertainer, best singer, best performer competition…there are mny great singers, performers, and entertainers..

but there’s only one queen of pop, thats madonna….

now, when it comes to janet, she is one of the greatest performers and entertainers out there..madonna aint got s*** on her when it comes to performing..

janet has also established her own lane, she doesnt have s*** else to prove to anybody..

but madonna is the queen of pop..sorry..

  50. RATEDX( LEGENDS ARE BORN NOT BOUGHT) February 8, 2012

I respect both ladies work..both ladies have made impacts in the pop world..

but madonna’s impact was much bigger…

but that doesnt take away from janet’s accomplishments..

i dont thinks its fair for the madonna fans to bash janet or the janet fans to bash madonna..

both ladies made huge impacts on and off the charts…but madonna made a bigger impact..yes its not fair..

but madonna is the queen of pop..

  51. irene46 February 8, 2012

    @ anne…

because an artist is black does not automatically qualify them as only an r & b singer. there’s nothing in the tone of most of janet’s songs that cry out r & b. unless you’re judging by skin color alone she’s no more r & b than madonna, christina, pink, kate perry or even britney spears. amy winehouse was by faaar more r & b than janet.

putting the likes of janet, beyonce, mariah, whitney (in her early days) and rihanna into the r & b box is just a way to keep them from competing with white artists for awards and, in this case, titles.

it was so much bs when mariah’s comeback album ’emancipation of mimi’
sold 10 million copies and only won grammys in the r & b catergories.

  52. tyra February 8, 2012

I THINK ITS MORE OF A CASE THAT JANET DID GREAT BUT MODANNA DID IT SLIGHTLY BETTER IN TERMS OF A CULTURAL IMPACT ON MUSIC BUT ITS HARD FOR ME TO DECIDE BETWEEN THE TWO

  53. Anne February 8, 2012

You can call her music whatever you want to call it. She still is not the QOP based on history. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis by and large gave her an R&B sound in my opinion that was pop friendly. Madonna’s music was heavily influenced by R&B but her voice and image screamed Pop. It has nothing to do with skin color. Jam and Lewis just gave Janet a funkier sound then anything Madonna was recording at the time in my opinion. Soif I had to pick one category or overall label for Janet’smusic it wouldbe R&B although she definitely transcended that category. I hate when categorization is based on color alone. Like when someone like Rihanna is referred to as R&B it bugs the heck out of me.

  54. Anne February 8, 2012

BTW, Janet expanded her sound as her career progressed. But that doesn’t change my bottom line or main point.

  55. irene46 February 8, 2012

    @ royalkev 9:25p…

onyx may love what anne said but i love what you said more.

i say the media and the industry punished janet by squishing her career because she wouldn’t keep up the round the clock apologies for dry humping justin t and busting boob at the super bowl(which from the look on her face seemed accidental…but idk).

after refusing to crawl on her belly and boot lick to their satisfaction (which took a lot of guts) the press decided that’ ‘ the two seconds of tit’ was more than americans should have to tolerate without punishing the station and the tit owner.

on the other hand, madonna can roll out all sorts of tongue down the throat of britney and christina. not a problem.

    @ anne feb 8 9:16p…

your claim madonna has had a bigger impact on music than janet is totally untrue. as i said before. all these females singing and dancing performances are the influence of janet including gaga. gaga may dress like mdna in her videos but her dancing is definitely ‘janet’ inspired. as a matter of fact mdna broke out with some ‘janet’ type moves in her super bowl performance.

to deny would be a lie!

  56. Anne February 8, 2012

I said she had a bigger impact on POP music and culture. If Lady Gaga didn’t give Madonna credit as being her biggest influence that would be a travesty. You also see Madonna’s influence on Pop divas like Katy Perry, Keisha, and Britney Spears. NO FEMALE ARTIST INFLUENCED DANCE MORE THAN JANET! PERIOD. That’s a whole different subject. Anyway, it is what it is. It’s not about who deserves the title the most or whether it’s 100% fair or not, it’s about who has the title. Madonna was fortunate enough to come along first and was popular enough to grab the title and keep it. I”m done for tonight for real this time. GOODNIGHT TO ALL.

  57. Bey Fan… February 9, 2012

So how are these “titles ” given??? I mean do we base it off sales, off cultural impact, tours, talent???

  58. irene46 February 9, 2012

    @ anne feb 8 10:56p…

anne let’s remain in the land of the ‘real’. madonna’s image may be what you call ‘pop’ but her voice sounds not one note more pop than janet’s. jimmy jam and terry lewis no more made her voice sound r & b than babyface, justin t or timberland made madonna’s sound r & b.

you don’t have to agree that janet should have the title of qop but you can’t push her into the r & b catergory when true r & b singers are the likes of mary j, jennifer hudson, alicia keys, keisha cole, faith evens etc. janet’s fight for a title belongs more on the battlefield of ‘pop.

  59. Dom February 9, 2012

One more thing … Now i love me some Janet but please stop with the being shy b/s.. like it was cute but not anymore..

  60. Lies! February 9, 2012

People/fans have been calling her that since the 80’s! LIES. The media just started throwing the term around 11yrs ago and have used it when talking about Janet Madonna Whitney Mariah Britney and even Paula Abdul! So stop! It wouldnt even be accurate to call Madonna queen of anything back then.

  61. YOOSONDALOOSE February 9, 2012

She looks good, but she needs to be at premieres, tv shows etc she needs to promote herself again for the new album!!!

  62. riri February 9, 2012

F*** all of ya bashing JANET and having the nerve to say you are a “fan” of JANET!

THEN how comes you cant get it through your thick head that JANET has been BANNED from mainstream radio and TV. SO how the f*** can she make a huge comeback?

is Madonna facing a backlash for showing her p****, tits and bum? NO!!!! EVEN if she did, it was short period compared to JANET, who is still BANNED today!

Can Madonna out do Janet on stage? get the hell outta here!

  63. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! February 9, 2012

On classic songs.. madonna wins hands down… Janet doesn’t have any iconic songs, while madonna has loads.

  64. COOKIE-DIVAS-TONI BRAXTON, RIHANNA February 9, 2012

  65. royalkev February 9, 2012

    All Of This!

i say the media and the industry punished janet by squishing her career because she wouldn’t keep up the round the clock apologies for dry humping justin t and busting boob at the super bowl(which from the look on her face seemed accidental…but idk).
    —————————————————————————–
    And This!!!

    —————————————————————————–
    Ant This!!! ….Your brillant!

To all of those question Janet’s and Madonna’s satus, just do this: Name Janet’s album titles. Then name Madonna’s ablum titles. Do you draw a blank when you try to remember any of Madge’s titles? I’m certain that most people might (escept for Madge stans of course).

    Now

Name Janet and Madonna singles. What probably happend here is that you can name so many for both… Right? What my point that I’m making is that Janet was more of an album & singles artist and her cultural impact was just as big as Madonna’s or even bigger musically speaking.

Don’t be fooled by the touring records. Madonna grossed in the 3-digit numbers for the first time in 2004(the year of Janet’s superbowl). Janet did so in ’93 with her Janet tour ($130 million) and in ’98 with ‘The Velvet Rope’ (133 million). janet’s first 4 tour surpassed Madonna’s first 5! Madonna got the upper hand with her last 3 since SB which finally saw totals of $125mil, $194 and$408mil. I’m not saying that those numbers aren’t great NOW, but Madge was doing 75million and lower with everything else.

Since SB , they been trying to seperate the status of the 2. That’s the bottom line.

@theroyalkev: CHEERS to you for getting it right!

  67. Janet4Ever February 9, 2012

I would love a new album from Janet, but Janet has to 100% want to do it, otherwise, it will not be successful. If Hagdonna wants to keep making albums, let her do that. Janet can choose to do music when she pleases.

As a fan I would love it, but I want it done right. It could only be done right if Janet’s heart is 100% in it.

  68. Lucas February 9, 2012

Janet!!! Slaying the comments. Who else but teh queen?

  69. Lucas February 9, 2012

Lol at the little f** saying Janet doesn’t have iconic songs. The Control singles are more iconic than Madonna’s whole existence.

  70. Popeater February 9, 2012

The Queen of Pop is whoever you want it to be. Janet is my QUEEN. There will never be another.

    The end!

  71. janetStan February 9, 2012

Janet must be the queen all these Madge fans are coming to a Janet post to hate!!

    bow down!!

  72. BEEyonced February 9, 2012

Janet sure as hell kan’t ‘learn’ anything from Jew’s Fav.

So if Janet sucks all top executive Jew d****, she gets good media promo like krazy even thou the person is lacking zero talent? Welp ….at least Janet can dance and entertain. Has a good heart and pure soul.

And by saying Janet need to go with what’s hip today. NVR. That’s only for Madonna, Britney, GaGa, Justin kinda folks – manufactured business products. -NOT ARTISTS! What’s a call to ole kat Jimmy Jam got to do with feeling the Zeitgeist? Janet better stay true to herself like she does anyway. Her career was big and long enough. Even if she retired yesterday.

  73. janetStan February 9, 2012

    @TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!!

you sound crazy as hell. But being Taylor Swift;s #1 fan, how would you know any better??

whenever Janet is mentioned, it is always “Miss Jackson if ya Nasty”, from her hit single “Nasty”. Or lady in her own Rhythm Nation from “Rhythm Nation”, the Lady in “Control” . That’s just to name a few. How can you have 10 #1 hits ,and 33+ global #1s (r&b, pop, dance, rock, adult contemporary) and no one remembers your songs. Again, Janet has nothing to prove. She’s almost 46, and has been entertaining for over 40 years.

    So sit down!!!!

  74. Mike February 9, 2012

Re: Lucas. Poor delusional Janet Stan. Pressed your idol prob packed on 20 lbs after Madonna kill it at the Superbowl? I like Janet but you’re delusional . And please don’t call anyone a f**, you’re clearly on the DL if you’re taking the time to defend a diva that hadn’t had a popular song since 2001

Okay, I decided to take another s*** at it. I was not referring to the tone of Janet’s voice when I said Jam & Lewis gave her more of an R&B sound, I was referring to the sound of her music, the beats. I will acknowledge that when Madonna’s single “Holiday” came out some people thought it was a black artist because the sound of the music was heavily influenced by R&B. Many would argue that R&B was the blueprint for Madonna’s music and that all she did was take R&B and make it lighter or diluted. She introduced that sound to the Pop world and made it more acceptable, thus paving the way for artist like Janet who blew up a little later. When Madonna’s videos like “Borderline” and “Lucky Star” came out she started this whole look and pop craze. She had female pre-teens and teens (white and black) walking around with big bows in their hair and wearing lace gloves. I was a t*** in the 80’s so I clearly remember (I graduated from high school in ’89) but if you are not as familiar with those videos you should check them out to try to get a feel for the times. She also had a less well known video out about the same time for “Burning Up.” Many other Madonna wanna-be singers started popping up but most didn’t make it big or last long. I would not put Janet in that category because she had her own unique style.
I’ll concede that you’ve done a good job of convincing me that Janet can equally be considered a Pop artist and I know she racked up Pop hits as did Madonna, but Madonna kicked it off and was the most popular. Her videos were being seen by the masses before Janet received any significant exposure (Janet’s first two albums tanked). I use to scan all kinds of radio stations because I’ve always been the type of person who was interested in different genres of music. While Madonna may have gotten more Pop airplay overall, Janet got way more airplay on R&B radio stations than Madonna did and some black people (unlike me, but like the majority of my friends growing up) only listened to R&B stations. We heard Janet on the R&B stations all the time and considered her R&B. But radio wasn’t Madonna’s only avenue because she kept her name in the spotlight for so long with so many antics like the use of religion in a way that offended some people (like Gaga is doing now), toying around with lesbianism (like Katy Perry, Gaga and others later did), or constantly exposing her mid-drift at a time when other artists in general were not doing so yet (like all of the Pop divas are doing now). And who could ever forget that MTV performance of “Like A Virgin” when she was rolling all over the stage in a lace dress. That was an iconic moment in Pop history, whether it deserves to be or not. I believe if you ask any white person who grew up in the 80’s (whether they listened to Pop, Rock, Country or even R&B/Soul music) who the QOP is, an overwhelming majority would say Madonna. Now with black people it may be a different story, some like me, would say Madonna while others would say Janet. We all know that black people are the minority in this world. Most of the white people > most of the black people, making Madonna more widely considered the QOP. I don’t know exactly what year people started referring to her as such but I know before she was given the title, she was laying the groundwork, by redefining pop sound and culture. ALL OF THE ABOVE, including my other comments, is why she got the title FIRST and kept it. That’s it for me (I think).

I’M BACK (briefly): Just asked a fellow co-worker (another black female who also grew up in the 80’s, is less than one year younger then me, but listened to mainly R&B music) who is the Queen of Pop? She said without hesitation, MADONNA. She then asked me who else could it possibly be, noting that Madonna was the only person she ever heard referred to as such, and when I said others (probably much younger than us) are trying to say it was or is Janet, she was surprised. She agreed that Michael was always considered the KOP and Madonna was considered the QOP. I think it’s just some of the younger generation African American Janet fans trying to consider her the QOP which narrows the group even further than I stated above.

  78. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! February 9, 2012

CAPS? BECAUSE ITS EASIER, GROW UP! HAVE A GOOD 1 AND SIU…

  81. irene46 February 9, 2012

    @ anne…

the reason that some young people are choosing janet as the ‘qop’ is because their thinking is not quite as influenced or stifled by the music industry who catergorize artists by color rather than sound. many young people nowadays recognize the different tone between r & b and the pop so they don’t wall janet off (and others for that matter) as solely r & b. however, the industry still pushes the divide somewhat and a lot of blacks (if not most) buy into it.

i totally disagree with you attempting to give credit to madonna for opening the door of success for janet becauseyou claim she made diluted r & b acceptable. are you kidding? female r & b singers made it on the pop charts long before madonna was even a lusty thought. if anyone deserves credit for janet blowing up, it would be her brother mj.

as far as some thinking mdna’s song ‘holiday’ was sung by a black artist, i’ve neeever heard such. christina’s ‘genie in a bottle’ yes!. madonna’s ‘holiday’ no,no and no!

SOME female singer- dancers may have some madonna influence. ALL of them have janet influence.
