Looks like the wigged wonder is looking to reassert her (contemporary) reign over female rap yet again as reports surface of yet another accolade. As ‘Starships’ singer Nicki Minaj prepares to launch the video for the first official release from her sophomore set ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’, reports are indicating the rapstress’s other pop single ‘Super Bass’ is still winning over the fans.
Get into the details below:
“Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” also tops the 4 million mark in digital sales this week. It’s the first song by a female rapper to reach that plateau. No other songs by female rappers (as the lead artist) have hit even 2 million. Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life” (featuring Drake) is second, with sales of 1,594,000. Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” is third, with sales of 1,359,000. (Elliott’s biggest hits, including the mega-hit “Work It,” were released before the advent of digital, or in the early years of digital, when sales were slimmer.)”

If Minaj can match or best the success of ‘Bass’ has yet to be seen, but if the response to the (buzz and official) singles from ‘Reloaded’ are anything to judge by, Minaj might wanna go back to the drawing board. And with ‘Minute Man’ maestra Missy Elliott and Paypal queen Lil Kim set to make their returns this year (and, of course, the up-and-comers), Miss Minaj may have a little (direct) competition on her hands for once.
As ever, will definitely be interesting to see how this plays out. In the mean time, congrats are in order!
