Honestly, the best videos since last year’s VMA’s have come from women artists. WFL, Beyonce’s “Countdown”, MIA’s “Bad Girls”, Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” are among my faves. I didn’t like Gaga’s Marry the Night, but I don’t expect her to get snubbed, not when Video Phone got a VMA nod.

..And, I should add, “Battleship” is no “ordinary” major studio release. It’s a “big tent pole blockbuster”, so that old(from 2006), $34.5-Million is very, very, very lowball! That said, let’s STILL use it to as our “total P/A cost”…
1.) $250-Million production budget. (from deadline, see my link)
2.) $50-Million just-added-to-promotion. (from deadline, see my link)
3.) $34.5-Million, though old (from 2006), and for an “average” movie, p/a – not a “big-tent-pole blockbuster” like “Battleship” is; never-the-less. (from the-numbers.com)
Total = $334.5-Million. Now, mind you, this does NOT include distribution fees, overhead, interest, profit participation, and residuals. So, that said, using Kagan SNL’s Metric of 1.4 X known costs = 1.4 X 334.5-Million = $468.3-Million must be earned in order for “Battleship” NOT to be considered a “failure”!
So referencing deadline and boxoffice, the foreign returns are projected to be $300-Million, and the U.S. returns at $125-Million = $425-Million. $468.3 – $425 = $43.3-Million in-the-red!
As I’d said, this “BIBLICAL”, $450-Million disaster-at-sea (using “John Carter final-cost numbers”), is one failure the “Rihanna Navy”, will not wriggle, slighter, deflect, nor scapegoat y’all way outta. This..epic Titanic-like disaster is one that Rihanna will herself own, and will literally be the “very face of”.

As it stands, “according to sources,” over at deadline, “the current budget for “Battleship” now stands at $250-Million.” And again referencing deadline: $50-Million was JUST added to the film’s promotion budget.
“Battleship”, as was/is “John Carter” are known as “tent-pole” movies: movie studios “gamble all” on them being winners. ‘John Carter’ was made for $200-Million, but the P/A budget drove the “final-get-to-theater” cost to $350-Million. ..Both “Battleship” and “John Carter” have much in common. Both are now being seen in some 50 countries. ..But let’s say that the distributors got the movie for almost free. Let’s use the P/A for an “ordinary” run-of-the-mill film: $34.5-Million (from the-numbers.com), and I might add, this is old, 2006, info.
..So $250-M + $50-M + $34.5-M = $334.5-Million. 1.4 X ‘known costs’ = “NOT FAIL NUMBER”.
..That said 1.4 X $334.5-M = $468.3-Million that “Battleship” has to return in order for it NOT TO FAIL..!!
Deadline projects ‘B’ship’ to return $300-M overseas, and $125-M U.S. = $425-M.
*drumroll..* $468.3-Million >> $425-Million..!! And the U.S. returns are..optimistic given the now growing storm of bad reviews and bad “Battleship-is-a-transformers-rip-off” talk now circling the blogosphere.
