Madonna Dishes on Daughter Smoking, Talks ‘MDNA’ Plunge, and More *Updated FULL*

Published: Thursday 19th Apr 2012 by Rashad

Queen of Pop Madonna may be used to making headlines and history, but the last few weeks has seen her doing so for all the wrong reasons.  As fans may recall, despite notching her 5th consecutive #1 album (8th overall) with ‘MDNA’, the album plummeted down charts in historic fashion – giving her the largest drop in Billboard history.  Coupled with photographs circulating in press of her eldest daughter Lourdes puffing cigarettes, it’s safe to say it just hasn’t been the best times for ol’ Madge.

Hard at work at her sure-to-be stellar tour, the Grammy-winning diva sat down with Rock Center’s Brian Williams to dish on the aforementioned topics and more in a very candid interview.  The uncharacteristically relaxed diva also talked about the challenges she’s faced selling records.

With reports surfacing today indicating Madge’s visit on the show boosted its ratings over 40%, see what all the fuss was about after the jump:

Doesn’t sound like they directly asked her about the plummet. She said it’s hard to sell records or get a number one debut with all of the competition and added that she was elated when she managed to debut at number one. Then they threw in the footage about the plummet but instead of asking her about it he asked if it was hard being Madonna. Im sure she was not happy about the plummet but at least she debut at number one with first week sales that were larger than some other artists first and second week combined, like Nicki Minaj for example, you could combine her first two weeks and she still would not surpass Madonna first week alone. MDNA is already near gold and should easily go platinum. The second week plummet is not that big of a deal considering the sales climate.

Ok, what a sad era for Madge. She doesn’t seem to stand for anything anymore.

Maybe she should spend a little less time running her mouth about others and focus on making quality music. The songs from MDNA were horrific. That dated first single didn’t help.

For Madonna to still be doing what she is doing at 54 years old. She still should be satisfied with her achievements..Madonna & Prince & Lionel Ritchie are the only ones left from the eighties that is still hitting the charts high…

lmao!!! @pytformal 100% co-sign!!! That old battleaxe needs to worry about her! And finding ponce de leon’s fountain of youth! Cause her face and narled hands are cracked!!!

Get real, she probably sees her daughter about twice a month when she needs a photo shoot with her. Madonna is too busy promoting herself and her freaky religion. Madonna Daughter Lourdes Smoking Photos and Madonna Reacts in Today Show Interview Video

A great watch, funny at times yet heart wrenching at others.

Madonna is the s*** regardless, name one other artist now or in the past that at 54
has her track record with regards to business or sales… She still holds the record for the best selling female artist of all time… When you can’t go any further, this little set back is cool.

Madonna how can you be a tough mom when you do the kind of this you do? Damn if you we my mother you wouldn’t tell me s*** about what I wear or what I eat or what I say cause clearly the world has seen different OR WORST FROM YOU. B**** DON’T BE SHOCKED IF YOUR DAUGHER GOES IN ON YOUR TOYBOY.

Great interview. I’m glad that there are still some artists left that don’t do scripted interviews and can handle all the questions.

As far as the album’s performance is concerned, once again everyone is overreacting. Obviously the album campaign has been a hot mess. Wrong singles, no promotion, a lot of filler on the album etc. But the album has surpassed the 1 million mark in 3 weeks and is probably going to have sold more than 1,5 million by the end of the month. Are you seriously trying to label a 1,5-million selling album as a flop? She hasn’t even released her 3rd single yet, let her breathe!

omg IM TIRED OF THESE KIDS ON HERE REALLY TRYING TO GO IN ON MADONNA BECAUSE OF SECOND WEEKS SALES! I MEAN C’MON ITS FRICKING MADONNA! SHE ISNT APART OF MUSIC, SHE IS MUSIC! SHE CREATED THE BLUEPRINT FOR THE GAME. IN MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION I WOULDNT CONSIDER A ALBUM THAT BASICALL WENT GOLD THE FIRST WEEK A FLOP..WITHIN THE NEXT 6 MONTH IM SURE IT WILL GO PLATINUM..THE GAME DEBUTED AT #1 last year but barely sold 90,000 copies same thing with Sara bareellis her album debuted at #1 but she barely sold 85,000 some of yall know nothing about music you just read what everyone else says and add your non-educated 2 sense.

  13. TheMan April 19, 2012

Madonna is not the best selling female artist, she is one of them. Her new album is basically gold, if radio plays her songs then she’d be all good.

  14. Onyx April 19, 2012

I adore her, second weeks sales doesn’t gonna hurt her, after the album was #1 in 50 countries on iTunes in the pre-order, the album tanked in the US charts but Madge’s is a worldwide artist so this album is gonna surpass for sure Hard Candy in sales, 1 million mark in 3 weeks, FLOP, i don’t think so, anyway she would have another monster tour sales with the MDNA tour, so keep talking haters, by the way Lola is identical to my sister, who also has 15 years old, about smoking, i smoke since i was 13, my mother used to be a bad b****, a free person very open mind but when it comes to her children the things change and this is exactly what happens to Madonna, she doesn’t want her kids to make the same mistakes she has done in her life, we can’t judge her for this, i personally thing no matter what example a mother or father give to their kids, the last word belongs to you, the son or daughter, i mean it’s you decition if you wanna be a good or bad kid despite how influential the life of your parents has being for you.

  15. Davon April 19, 2012

@THEMAN-Madonna is in the Guiness Book of World record as the highest selling female artist of all time and no one has outsold her yet. So technically she is.

  16. badgirl April 19, 2012

With all the ish Madonna has done she can’t tell her daughter ish IMO!! I mean what is she going to say’ don’t do it. Hell no!!! She just better tell that girl whatever she does be safe as possible, that’s the best she can hope for lol

  17. JER April 19, 2012

yeah that accent was flyin all over the place

  18. *NEWBIE April 20, 2012

I’m sorry but didn’t she say that she wasn’t going to do any television appearances in support of this new album? Well, I guess after that Billboard record she set….This is just like Oprah’s network…goes to show that you can’t sell a product without YOU selling it……no matter how big a name, or even how bad the programming/music.

  19. TALK THAT S*** April 20, 2012

the album is done! Flop ass has been!

  20. Todd April 20, 2012
