Yesterday marked the release of ‘Pink Friday:Roman Reloaded‘, the latest LP by Rap royal Nicki Minaj.
Currently perched at #1 in the UK and set to follow suit the world over this time next week, the project is currently receiving a mammoth US campaign this week, in a bid to generate sales worthy of its hype.
However, if a report by Hits Daily Double is anything to go by, it is set to under perform.
Details below…
According to HDD, ‘Roman Reloaded’ will move between 200-225k in its first week- despite the success of lead single ‘Starships’ and a campaign which has included stints on the 2012 Grammys, American Idol and the Elvis Duran morning show.
Expected to come in at #1, the project’s predicted sales will come as a shock to any who had expected better, following 2010’s ‘Pink Friday’ which debuted with 375,000 without a major single behind it.

To be honest, as is evident with Adele‘s ‘21‘, first week sales aren’t always indicative of how an LP will do in the long run.
Yes, while the likes of Rihanna and Lil Kim would dream of racking up 200k in a week, it is not a good look for an act of Nicki’s stature.
However, with a world tour, new singles and an even meatier campaign on its way, we’re sure ‘Roman Reloaded’ will hit the 3 million copies sold mark by the year’s end.
*It should be noted that this prediction is based on 1st day sales alone.

What really surprised me is that Madonna, who I love perhaps even more than Nicki, was able to sell 359,000 first week! That’s better than her last 300k + sales back in November 2005 with Confessions on a Dance Floor. That album got a lot of promotion on MTV and other outlets and was during the holiday shopping season and sold 350,000 it’s first week reaching #1.

Just because something is multi platinum doesn’t always mean it has sold more than a platinum certified release. Certifications are for how many copies are shipped out to stores not for how many are actually sold.

This doesn’t surprise me. People like to listen to this stuff on the drive to and from work but that doesn’t mean they will be motivated to buy the whole cd. I don’t see it becoming a big seller. That 3 million estimate must mean worlwide and I would assume it will still struggle to get that far even worldwide, IF it ever does. Most of her fans (the so-called barbs) have probably already bought it. Just being realistic. On the bright side, I do think it will eventually go US platinum which is not a flop and actually decent now-a-days.

I’m sorry but I just don’t see how Nicki is significantly more talented than Rihanna. Both rely heavily on gimmicks especially Nicki, and radio friendly, catchy tunes that will not stand the test of time. Neither is much of a live performer IMO.

FLOP!! This record was on pre-order for over 3 months and she still came in low?? This is the same smack-in-the-face she got from the Grammys. Nicki losing the Grammy after winning the AMAs, is like an actor losing the Oscar after winning the Golden Globe; shameful!
The only thing Nicki did for hip hop is made a bunch of insecure, dysfunctional people behind a computer screen feel special enough to join her cult. That’s all.
Pretty sure Rihanna sold 200k+ first week with loud in the states I even think she did it in the UK after she performed on xfactor her album sold a nice 200k+ in one week weeks after release.

Nicki’s problem is she is full of herself. Gay Money has gassed her up to the point where she feels she can’t be touched. That whole label is arrogant & evil. Nicki thought the 5 yr olds were gonna come to her rescue. I guess Baby didn’t buy a lot of records this time around. She had flop singles, bad album reviews, still bussing shots at Kim, etc, etc. Nicki is not that big despite what Gay Money tries to portray. It’s all “smoke & mirrors” with that label.

There are lots of niki fans who are disappointed but wait. NIki should learn to master her own genre ans crossover with it. If you have it it is possible. Jay z crossover with hip hop, having #1 albums in 23 countries and they respect him more than any rapper. Missy elliot crossover with rap. Beyonce crossover with r&b since her group days. Alicia keys crossover with r b, but miss niki was so anxious to make money on her second album she decided to please pop fans on her wack rap album. No darling 30 yrs do you think these young girls will stay with you. They cannot even afford chocolate for breakfast. Every artist want artistic freedom but they know nothing about hte music industry. Two albums through, new artist so much hype and that debut is a shame.
These numbers are for artist who is in the business for over 20 yrs and do no promo fro their album. This is not good for artist like niki and rihanna who is everywhere changing hair colors with huge egos

So i’m set some things straight really quick.
I keep hearing comparisons of Nicki’s albums to Hardcore, but this album sold 230,000 it’s debut week in 1996! the important part of that is that it’s before the 21st century! people now are flat out buying less albums because of the internet. Hence her album debuted at 11 not 1… ELEVEN on the charts. Kim went on to go double plat (4 years later). For her time those numbers actually, SUCK. Back when people bought albums she should have been doing MUCH better.
Now to Nicki, It took Pink Friday 1 month to go Plat in 2011. People are buying less albums now without question and even with that PF shipped a million by a month and under 2 years later went DOUBLE PLAT. Having that showing in the 2011 market compared to the one back in the 90’s it’s clear to see who’s the winner. Even based on pure numbers and not logical stuff it took Kim double the time it took Nicki to go double plat.
Now Roman Reloaded is likely with new predictions gonna sell about 250k first week. In 2011 those are NOT numbers that = a flop. sorry guys. And using prior knowledge it’ll prolly sustain sales better than other albums like PF and go plat and double plat and maybe even triple very soon.
The real flop is the single Kin released this week which all of you so called “kim fans” probably don’t even know about. LOL
