Welp. I’d agree in the sense that I’d take the studio version of his voice over a live one any day though. He’s gotten better vocally, but he’s still a dancer that just happens to sing.
CB is very underated. His performances is exceptional and he gets a whole lot of criticism because of the incident not because of his performance. When people are watching his performance they are looking for something negative. People complained about CB lip sinq and at the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS he sung ALL BACK LIVE and did a dance routine, people was criticisng saying that it wasn’t as good as his past performances, he didn’t bring it and it was ver boring. Than when he put on a show with all theatrics, and doesn’t sing live people complain and say he doesn’t sing live only dances. But in reality his performances is always the top 3 of the night, but because of the incident and how people feel about his personal life, he doesn’t get a break, people come at him negative all the time. Cb is an all around entertainer, HE SINGS, DANCES, WRITES, DIRECT, ARTIST, ACTING, WHAT CAN’T THIS MAN DO. He should be further than were he is. You name any Male artist who has all his talent and can put a show on like him. Not Usher, Justin or Bruno. all of them I mention are good singers and average dancers, but CB talents is exceptional.

I think he’s very underrated. He’s one of my favorite male artist and I’ve liked him since he first came out. He’s constantly judged about his actions especially about what happened with Rihanna and I’m not saying what he did was right or even okay, but I’m not going to stop listening or supporting his music because of what happened in his personal life. I think he’s extremely talented and I support his music and him as an artist and could care less what goes on in his personal life, that’s something he needs to deal with and doesn’t really concern anybody else.

Chris is clearly a great talent and can dance his ass off.. but in this day and age what a artist does away from the stage has a bigger impact on what they are doing on stage and in Chris’ case this will be an ongoing issue he has to deal with. I think Chris gets the acknowledgement he deserves…but his actions away from the music overshadows his musical achievements.

The problem most have with Chris is we believe he can be much better than what we’re getting but he doesn’t seem to have the right team around him to get him there, either that or he’s not tryna hear nobody. I definitely don’t believe we’re getting the very best from him but it takes a lot of sacrifice and discipline to be great.

Greatness doesn’t just come to you unless your great out the box like MJ or Whitney and though I got mad love for Melanie she’s not on that level. You’re right–it takes much more than a “voice”; as we know plenty of people who have great voices but don’t necessarily possess the “thing” that catapults them into stardom are plentiful. However, I still think she is underrated.
When I think of my favorite artists, MOST of them, except three (Prince, Whitney and Janet) are not popular. The voice (Luther Vandroess, Rachelle Ferrell, Anita Baker, Rashaan Patterson, Ledisi, Cassandra Wilson, etc..) has always been the bar for me. But when thinking about the popular landscape, voice has rarely been the key.

I have to say that Chris Brown is terribly underrated. He’s an amazing artist. He’s got a knack for writing. It’s not anything too profound that he may come up with, but his songs are catchy and enjoyable. Anything he’s featured on is hot! The quality of his material often surpass people that get far more play than he does. Chris has also been an excitable performer from day one! He’s never a disappointment live and his set is usally one of the highlights at most award shows (when you don’t find too many anti-Chris people nitpicking and over analyzing). He may not get the recognition he deserves because he’s had problems with his image. “The incident” did steal some of his thunder and he’s still somewhat recovering from that today. Chris has also been his worse enemy. He gets in his own way alot. That aside, he was made to be a star! I’m sure those people that can’t look past the latest turn of events in his career would say the same if they weren’t so bitter.

He’s a great performer. There isn’t a male out there that can touch him. People like to knit pick him because they don’t like him personally. It’s a simple as that. The comments Pink made (and that’s one of my favorites) were inappropriate–she just flat out wanted an excuse to attack him. It’s the same with John Legend’s girlfriend, who has attacked Chris Brown in the past. The people who tend to be critics of his OCCASIONAL lip synching are usually always people who don’t like him personally.
Now, with that said, the greats have lip synched, but Chris Brown isn’t at that level just yet. I think he’s an all around performer. He does acrobatic s*** MJ would really approve of, he’s got a good voice with a nice range, and he writes most of his own songs now. He’s also a painter, sketch artist, designer, and sculpture. He has a HUGE hand in creating his choreography, songs, sets, dances, cover art work, and ad campaigns.
And, on top of all of that, he’s consistent!
He has room to evolve, and I think his fans, along with the general population, would like to see him do more live singing, like he used to before he was focused more on flipping and jumping up and down. We all know he’s good at that, so he can step back from it a bit if he so CHOOSES.
I’m going to end this essay by saying that Chris Brown is the best male artist out. He’s even surpassed Usher at this point, because Usher, as great as he is (especially vocally) can’t offer anything new. He’s had a long, illustrious career, but Usher is just recycling at this point. Chris Brown has more to show.

He needs to explore working with people who understand his sound like Ryan Leslie and Sean Garrett.
