It’s certainly been a long road for crooner Phillip Phillips. Narrowed down from thousands of contestants, the young singer bested 16-year-old powerhouse vocalist Jessica Sanchez to be named 2012’s American Idol. With a record setting 132 million votes between the two of them, it was ultimately the 21-year-old guitarist that took the prize.
While we look forward to music from both of the blossoming vocalists, we at That Grape Juice extend our congratulations to Mr. Phillips for being crowned this year’s American Idol!

i was a big fan of phillips but……Jessica deserved the win she was the better vocalist and will be much more commercially successful than he will be…those damn little girls who vote there nail polish off are so blind…..but i do love the coronation song they chose for him…

He has commerical appeal for mainstream while Jessica has impeccable talent and will have a great diverse catalog of material. Jessica=real winner! Congrats to Phillip though. He will be called an American Idol, while Jessica will be a GLOBAL idol. She’s only 16 and has so much more to grow into.

American Idol is really a joke now and has been for years. Its sad that the talented people who can really sing get voted off but just watch you not going to hear nothing from him and jessica will blow up everywhere. You don’t need the title for success. Phillip is a mess!

As talented as as he is, it seems that being physically appealing to teenage girls wins votes. Let’s see if the votes that got him the American Idol title translate into actual album sales. Just sayin’.

I aint mad really because out of all the contestents Phillip had the most original sound and unique vibe. He shocked me when he did a really good job on Usher “U Got It Bad” the week he sung that and it showed some versatility
Joshua & Jessica are the beasts vocally. 2 of the best ever on Idol but they have a sound we already know.
You hear the Beyonce, J Hud influence in the young Jessica and Josh sounds like a gospel CD with super control.
They my favs (Josh & Jess) as a urban music fan but other than his looks i can understand why America got into the zone of Phillip.
I dont think there is anyone in the current charts that sounds like him so he got a lane to run into and probably he needed this title more than our vocal heavyweights.

Remember ppl is all politics Phillip has a lane all his own, while Jessica can still be groomed being that she’s only 16 years of age. The industry is more about popularity opposed to talent. So popularity won again.
Being that there were no Black female contestants I lost interest in this season real quick. Not surprised that another “soulful” “artistic” WGWG won. This show has officially jumped the shark for me – they need to blow up this show by getting rid of Randy, JLo & Steven and get more panelists who are in the business side of the industry – producers, a&r staff, etc who may be better able to judge true talent instead of blowing smoke up these kids’ behinds.
