With her single ‘RIP‘ now atop the UK singles chart, Ora has broken her own record for scoring the fastest selling song of the year, following ‘Hot’s speedy ascent to the same spot.
Snatching the position from X Factor Head girl Tulisa, ‘RIP‘ also kicks dust in the face of Rihanna‘s ‘We Found Love’ and ‘Where Have You Been’, despite the latter coming out six weeks ago.
So, now she’s proved her worth as a singles act, here’s hoping Team Rita is readying a campaign centered on her LP.
A campaign, strong enough to ensure the project is worthy of her growing hype and slick enough to convince the public Ora is worth their $10.
This, we think, can only happen if she ups her performance game (structured choreography>mindless jumping) and exaggerates her ‘British‘ during US promo. Yep- glottal stops galore.

Rihanna’s fans keep on excusing TTT’s stalled sales by saying that she’s barely promoted it. Um?! You do know that that’s not a good thing, right? It’s Roc Nation’s job as her management to send her out to publicly promote her s*** in order to maximize its performance potential. Hell, they’re even giving Rita songs that were originally pitched to Rihanna, and having her perform snippets of Rihanna’s songs on stage in front of industry people, while she herself is nowhere in the crowd and probably isn’t aware of it happening. Man, that s*** ain’t cute. That’s like a cheating husband letting his mistress rummage through his wife’s closet while she’s away. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if behind Rihanna’s back, Roc Nation is arranging for Rita to take offers that originally came in for her.
The bottom line is that Roc Nation is clearly throwing lots of time, effort and money behind getting Rita established, so much so that it’s beginning to look questionable how much of a priority the company sees Rihanna at this point. We’ve seen this happen before. Tommy Motolla replaced Mariah Carey with Jennifer Lopez….Puff replaced Mary J. Blige with Faith Evans…Lou Pearlman replaced Backstreet Boys with Nsync.
Jay-Z is no fool. He knows how the game is played. It doesn’t matter how much success Rihanna’s had thus far, the industry is always looking for the next big thing to get behind…and I’m starting to see more and more Rita, and less and less Rihanna.
