Merely moments ago, the R&B hitmaker unveiled new single ‘Lazy Love’, the lead release from his comeback set ‘R.E.D’ LP – which is now confirmed to hit stores on September 18th.

After a rocky outing with last project ‘Libra Scale’, does Universal Motown’s new SVP of A&R serve up the goods this time? Judge for yourself after the jump

Now this, quite literally, is more like it!

With ‘Lazy’, Ne-Yo re-engages with the formula which rendered him such a formidable force upon his chart arrival and the immediate window following. Indeed, here we see an R&B base, garnished with lush melodies and harmonies, and “accessible”, yet qualitative lyrics.

It’s a recipe that not only sets Shaffer aside from the likes of Trey Songz (who seems to be on a one-man crusade to propagate the notion that R&B today must sound like funeral music); it -most importantly- is a recipe that works.

YES. The prince of R&B is back. This song sounds like it’s following in the footsteps of simpler R&B songs like Usher’s “Climax” instead of going for a bombastic/dance sound.

And looks like the album changed its name for the better. I’m hoping that since Ne-Yo’s an executive now he can just authorize a big-ass budget for everything related to this album – promo, videos, etc.

    i love it

I like it. Couldve had a better chorus….I think it’ll have to grow on me, but Climax shits all over this to be honest.

Why is he releasing the song 4 months ahead of the album??!?

I like the direction he is headed with this song. I LOVE that is is R&B. But, the only thing I don’t like about this song is that the verses don’t have a melody that you can sing along with. It is kind of all over the place. But there are many songs out there like that. If you listen to his song Genuine Only from Libra Scale, now THAT song is PERFECT!!! I also love One in a Million from Libra Scale. I hope to hear more songs like that. Still love you Ne-Yo. 🙂

Im not feeling this at all. Ne-yo is missing something with this one. Im not sure whats beeen going on lately with his music. To be fair, I actually liked a few songs off of “Libra Scale”. “One in a million” was underated I think. I agree with the comment above that says Usher’s “Climax” is everything right now. It’s true.

@ BOOPI I love “What have I done?” off “Libra Scale”

    Its ok…. I miss the 2006-2008 Ne-Yo!

    Thank GOD, it’s not Euro-dance.
I hope more black acts return to making black music.

Oh, and sorry but I have to do this…
THANK YOU BEYONCE FOR KEEPING IT URBAN/BLACK/REAL WITH ‘4.’

  10. DMWN May 14, 2012

I don’t love it, but at least it’s not dance music.

  11. DS May 15, 2012

Not keen on this comeback song. Let’s Go should have been it.

  12. POP ROYALTY ( RéVolution) May 15, 2012

oh please …. no more Boring R&B songs ……

he’s doing better with dance songs ! his comeback song must be a dance song then the songs after can be anything , it is all about the lead single now !!!

love it! it actually has some MEANING and you can feel something rather than a generic, boring dance song that you get bored of in 2 weeks.

  14. Tami May 15, 2012

Not the best but I like the return to R&B music. I’m done with all this Euro/Dance/House/Techno trash music. I would like him to tap into what made his first album successful.

  15. Geezy May 15, 2012

Neyo is a great songwriter but lately his music as a whole has been missing the mark. I hope RED is a new beginning for him.

  16. BCinKS May 15, 2012

This track is right where NeYo needs to be. His strength is ballads/midtempos that have those “real” lyrics. Love this! Now he’s back on my radar cause Libra Scale was not it.

  17. SBC19 May 15, 2012

I’m glad Neyo remembered that he’s black and is doing black music again. Unlike a few of his contemporaries who’re trying to be white.

  18. Mr. Clinton May 15, 2012

Ditto BCINKS’s comment. This goes hard! Immediately up there w/ S*** Love and Miss Independent among my favorite Ne-Yo songs. And of the best I’ve heard by anyone so far this year. I’m definitely looking forward to his next album.

  19. DIGGER BEY May 15, 2012

I like it! Im glad he didnt jump on that dance techno crap for his first single. Hopefully this single will put Neyo bac as an R&B/Pop Enforcer!

  20. Jessica May 15, 2012

Yes Ne-Yo!!! That’s what I’m talking about!!!! Real R&B music!!! I’m glad he not doing disposable music EURO-POP TRASH!!! I’m sorry Usher and Toni Braxton disappointed me big time by catering that crap of music!!! I will be buying this new Ne-Yo album when it’s coming out!!!
