Rolling Stone Names ‘Top 50 Female Albums Of All Time’ / Do You Agree?

Published: Saturday 23rd Jun 2012 by Sam

Hailed as a “music bible” by some and dismissed as an “Urban” detester by others, Rolling Stone – love them or loathe them – are undoubtedly one of the most renown and respected music outlets standing.

As such, their recent compilation of the ‘Top Female Albums Of All Time’ was always going to me a “must see”.

Using a loose metric of critical and commercial success, the publication’s tally (inclusions, omissions, and positions) makes for a fascinating read.

*******

Naturally, the list opens the floodgates for ample debate. For, while it does much “right” – namely the inclusion of Aretha Franklin, Beyonce‘s ‘4’ and more, there are also many a criminal omission. Indeed, notable by their absence are releases from the likes of Mariah Carey Christina Aguilera (‘Stripped’), Amy Winehouse, and Whitney Houston. Not to mention the “wrong” Alicia Keys and Lady GaGa albums (‘Diary’ / ‘The Fame Monster’ anyone?)

Anyway…
Enough of our rambling…

What do YOU think of the list?

This is list is an absolute fool!!! Come I agree with but alot of others i don’t! I like that the list is diverse and have other genres of music but some of the albums on the list are none even the artist best work on many levels! DONT LIKE THE LIST AT ALL!

    • Jasmine June 23, 2012

I agree. This list is stupid. Many of the artists listed are one hit wonders so how is their album influential? Also, for many of the popular artists they have the wrong albums listed. Also you cannot skip Whitney or Mariah on any top list because Whitney’s “The Bodyguard” exceeded 16 million sales alone and Mariah was confirmed by Billboard as the highest selling artist on the 90’s so her Daydream should be on the list.

      • virtuoso intellect June 23, 2012

16 million? u referring to US sales cus last i heard Bodyguard ha sold over 44million ww

      • JohnVidal(RIP Whitney-truegreat) June 23, 2012

The Bodyguard sold 17 million albums in the USA ALONE. And only until 2000. After that I´m sure is has sold at least one more million in the USA
But the list is not about the biggest sellers. You can´t blame them for that. The list is a joke but for some other reasons

    • Pangsong October 17, 2013

This list is stupid…I don’t like Rolling Stones, it praises Taylor Swift instead of real singers like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston!
Daydream, Falling into you and Body guard are the top albums of all time!! Why isn’t it on here?

  2. BC June 23, 2012

why is there no Mariah?? and yeah im happy 4 was on there.

    • 4 _ IS INCREDIBLE F-UCK SALES June 23, 2012

      4. MUSICALLY IS AN INCREDIBLE ALBUM, SINGLE & HOW POP CULTURE SEE IT, IT’S TERRIBLE BECAUSE IT DOESN’T FIT IN WITH WHAT’S GETTING PUT OUT NOW! BUT THAT ALBUM WAS INCREDIBLE. BORN THIS WAY WAS A RUBBISH ALBUM WITH LOAD INSTRUMENTS & PRETENTIOUS LYRICS. LADY GAGA HASN’T PRODUCED ANYTHING WORTH LISTING FOR.

  3. YouDoRealize… June 23, 2012

If they had given 21 #1 i woulda hopped on a plane and gone to LA and shot the editor in chief for accepting that. In other news GO BEY for being on the list. She is amazing and I’m so happy for her. Don’t even mention a girl with the name of R because she has nothing to do with this.

  4. BC June 23, 2012

Mariah had Daydream, Butterfly and Emancipation and none of them made it

  5. MariahServant June 23, 2012

lmao! this is a JOKE! Where is Whitney, Britney and Mariah all of whom have DIAMOND albums! Who ever made that list should be fired from Rolling Stones

    • virtuoso intellect June 23, 2012

if they wanted to make a list of best-selling albums …they woulda made one. Although i agree Mariah and Whitney should have their critically acclaimed efforts up there but not because of certifications. Britney’s diamond albums were bubble gum fluff noone would even listen thru to today. why would those be considered greatest of anything?

      • irene46 June 23, 2012

britney my a$$! where the hell is THRILLER!!!!

      • irene46 June 23, 2012

i just remember this is supposed to be a list of female artist.

in that case, where the hell is gwen stefani?

  6. A June 23, 2012

Lady Gaga’s album better than Laurin Hill’s one?

Yeahhhhh, Billboard, you know what you’re talking about….

    anyway

  7. TEAM BREEZY June 23, 2012

AHAHAHAHHA THIS MAGAZINE IS SOOOOO F***** UP…… WHERE IS WHITNERY HOUSTON? WHERE IS DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE, BDAY AND I AM SASHA FIERCE

  8. PYTFROMAL June 23, 2012

Half of the list is a joke and half of the people/albums shouldnt be there. If these are considered the best albums of all time then that’s sad.

RS usually uses votes by numerous music critics/insiders to compile lists like these, however, this list was put together by one person. No wonder its so horrible.

  9. JAKE June 23, 2012

WHY IS EVERYONE TAKING THIS LIST SO SERIOUS?

REMEMBER, THIS ISNT THE “500 BEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME” LIST.

MARIAH HAS TWO ALBUMS ON THAT LIST AND SO DOES WHITNEY!!!

THIS IS JUST A LIST THAT TALKS ABOUT THE BEST FEMALE ALBUMS IN TERMS OF CRITICAL AND COMMERCIAL SUCCESS AS WELL AS FAN IMPACT. GO TO THE ROLLING STONES WEBSITE!!! It SAYS THAT THERE.

    IGNORE TGJ!!!

  10. RITANATION June 23, 2012

M.I.A. Album only had one hit song which was “air plans” so that album should not be on the list.

    Congrats to the queen beyonce.

And for Rihanna *oh wait* she ain’t on the list hahaha

  11. Miguel June 23, 2012

LOL I haven’t heard most of these albums, but “Born This Way” ahead of “Jagged Little Pill” is RIDICULOUS

    • A June 23, 2012

      DEFINETLY!

      this is a joke

  12. HoneyB June 23, 2012

Flop list just like the megazine

  13. RihannaNavy June 23, 2012

Where is Rihanna on that? I think this list isnt right cause Rolling Stone Magazine named Rated R as the Album of the Year 2009..

  14. Jboss June 23, 2012

I just glad miss Patti LaBelle and the group members of LABELLE got a spot on this list Nightbirds is an amazing album

  15. BEYONCE’S WEAVE June 23, 2012

This is rubbish, how much did Beyonce pay them to put her crappy piece of s*** album on that list. 4closure was a disaster and Beyonce is a has-been FLOP b**** who no one is checking for anymore. My hope is she disappears to FLOP land and takes her sister Kelly FLOPland with her.

Those Destiny Child’s days are long gone, that was when Beyonce was in her prime, now she is an attention seeking FLOP b**** who is boring the s*** out of me. Can she FLOP out of her record label so we don’t have to read about her anymore.

    • irene46 June 23, 2012

for ally your raging i bet anything beyonce’s doing better than your fav.

  16. mesa June 23, 2012

I think the list is good!! I mean all these people on the list is talented people and i dont think there were going by number ones and such! These are just good albums period. And shoot me but why would britney be on the list??? I mean her music isnt groundbreaking and she’s not that great of a singer….her and rihanna both although I do think rihanna rated r was an AMAZING album.

    • anna June 24, 2012

according to rolling stone magazine blackout was named one of the most influrntial albums in pop music.. perhaps didnt deserve to be 0n top 5o but she has that amazing album

  17. WELL DAMN! June 23, 2012

THIS LIST IS AN INSULT AND THE PERSON WHO MADE IT HAS TO BE 60 YEARS OLD+

  18. MISHKA June 23, 2012

First of, congrats to all those ladies.

I’m happy for Beyonce but if she starts hanging with the wrong friends, she’s going to end up where Ciara is. Nowhere. Eff The Throne, Watch The Company, Beyonce.

That Adele’s ’21’ is all kinds of overrated and overexposed. Enough Already.

  19. fatu sankoh June 23, 2012

congrate to queen bey i know 4 is one of her best work i love 4 long live queen bey

  20. Alex Thomas June 23, 2012

WHAT IS GAGA DOING ON THE LIST! Nonsense!

  21. LoDiddy June 23, 2012

    #GAG

  22. Brandon Likewhoa Gilliam June 23, 2012

This is a huge joke. No Whitney, no DC3, no Adele, one Janet album, no Sade, no Diana Ross my her self. Try again Rolling Stone.

    • ronnoc June 23, 2012

adele is at #6. i think 19 should have been on it instead. great album

  23. NATURALBEAUTY June 23, 2012

This list is an automatic fail for 2 reasons, first there is no Mariah Carey, second Dangerously In Love & I Am Sasha… Fierce had a bigger impact than 4. DIL gave us Crazy in Love & IASF gave us Single Ladies, those 2 songs are iconic & started 2 different dance crazes & will forever be memorable. IASF earned Bey 6 Grammys. Sorry but Born This Way should have been out the list, if anything The Fame Monster should have made it. & even tho I’m a Beysus stan, Good Girl Gone Bad should have made the list too. This list is a compete flop & even tho Bey made the list I’m still not pleased.

    • NATURALBEAUTY June 23, 2012

      *complete

  24. solo12345 June 23, 2012

beyonce 4? it’s a good album but not iconic … crazy in love made a bigger impact , even I Am… Sasha fierce no mariah Carey and no Whitney Houston ..???

  25. Antonio DeJoyce June 23, 2012

No disrespect to whoever made this thread.. But what happened to the females who really broke records.?!! Not to be salty but Ashanti’s 1st album was a classic, sold 1/2 million 1st week (who doing that.?!) and still holds records no one has touched to date..!!

    • YouShallDeal June 23, 2012

A lot of people sold 500K first week or more in the early 2000’s (Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child, NSYNC), the only record Ashanti holds is having a #1 album & #1 song at the same time. That album is not thAT memorable, ask white people if they can remember 1 song from that album. Ashanti is a flop.

      • joshua June 23, 2012

no mam!! Ashanti’s first album was as classic as classic gets..lets not forget foolish happy baby unfoolish..most of these albums on thys list i hate to say it are TRASH..

    • Oh Baby(B****** Will Deal) June 23, 2012

Beyonce’s B’day also sold more than 500k first week so what’s your point?

    • number1k9 June 24, 2012

Actually, sadly Susan Boyle beat Ashanti’s biggest solo female debut album’s sales numbers with her debut album. Except her album was an album full of covers. Ashanti’s album was original.

And to all the other nay sayers, The record is for the SOLO, FEMALE, DEBUT! ! ! Not any random album a female has sold.

Its shows how big the artist was during their DEBUT, not later on in career. Of course ppl, sell more albums later on, 1 who comes to mind, is Taylor Swift, who sold a million first week of her last album! AGAIN record was for solo female DEBUT album sales!

  26. MonsterHive June 23, 2012

No Mariah Carey? This list is invalid. The Emancipation Of Mimi is a classic. 4 might have been better than Dangerously in Love & Sasha Fierce in terms of growth but it did not have a bigger impact. Sorry but Gaga’s BTW is not better than The Fame Monster, BTW made an impact in the gay community & TFM was still better musically. Good Girl Gone Bad to me should have made the list (most of the Navy would never say that about Beyonce) but I sincerely feel like it should have been at least #50. This list is bogus.

  27. CBE June 23, 2012

I had to drop by and give my two cents on this list, Where is the Emancipation of Mimi? and lady gaga? LMAO!

I dont agree 4 should be on the list becoz beyonce has better albums like Sasha Fierce, B day and F*** critical acclaim this should be based on public reception and impact, Adele? damn they dont waste time LOL… any thats my take.

    • virtuoso intellect June 23, 2012

no it cant just be based on public reception because public reception depends largely on marketing and marketing depends on budget. for example, MIA is not a mainstream artist so the average listener prolly arent even aware of her before she paper planes and prolly never follwed her afterwards cus she stayed in her creative lane. u get where im going? critical acclaim is an impact on its own

  28. @THE_MALEMADONNA June 23, 2012

Where the f*** is CHRISTINA AGUILERA: Stripped !!!!!

    • ronnoc June 23, 2012

i was gonna say the same about back to basics.. lol

  29. YouShallDeal June 23, 2012

I Am Sasha Fierce, The Emancipation of Mimi, Oops I Did It Again >>> Born This Way

  30. virtuoso intellect June 23, 2012

obviously we all have different viewpoints as to what constitutes a “greatest” album. i have learnt to not be bothered by these things. they’ll never be unanimous. these publications dont have the impact they used to have in the pre-twitter age.

nonetheless im hella pleased to see my girl Bey up there. The order is messed up though lol. jagged lil pill, miseducation shoulda ranked higher but whatevs

  31. I Judge Flops June 23, 2012

THE REASON WHY KING B IS ON THE LIST IS BECAUSE SHE EXECUTIVE PRODUCED HER S*** AND CO WROTE EVERY SINGLE EXCEPT “I WAS HERE”.

SHE BROUGHT VOCALS THAT NO POP B**** ALIVE COULD EVEN DARE EVEN TRY.

SAM YOU HAVE TURNED INTO AN ANNOYING F***** I MUST SAY.

    • virtuoso intellect June 23, 2012

lol what’s Sam gotta do with it ?

  32. pete June 23, 2012

WHERE THE F*** IS BLACKOUT? LIKE A PRAYER? THIS LIST IS A JOOOOKE!

  33. dom June 23, 2012

I love that 4 made the list and I LOVE!! that rhythm nation made the list, Mariah should be there though; butterfly TEOM etc.

  34. SENTFROMUPABOVE June 23, 2012

    WHERE DA F*** IS MARIAH?

  35. likane June 23, 2012

4 is a very good album but I would have preferred even the low dangeresly in love
I’m happy for Beyonce as she had very good review for the album and some reward but must return the
because his latest musical is empty she ended the concert op and am jay’z it around like an idiot he must wake up to what it becomes frustrating

  36. likane June 23, 2012

and I’m not at all agree that rihanna should be on this list gggb is an album like rihanna to know the dance and that’s all apart umbrela was solid the rest is like any other album made up by ttt loud music ect for the young teenager who wants to dance drink have fun and that’s all before these fans will understand what is not a singer but a better product maketing not accept it even on the top with large

  37. REECE June 23, 2012

    WHITNEY HOUSTON NOR MARIAH….I CANNNTTTTTTTT

  38. KINGB June 23, 2012

BORN THIS WAY???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

  39. 2/11songscribe June 23, 2012

Where is Mariah, Mary j and whitney ? Where is Never Say Never and Full moon by Brandy? Oh! Joke list. Next>>>>

  40. Blackman June 23, 2012

    Rolling Stone is a joke.

  41. Blackman June 23, 2012

Rolling Stone don’t care about pop and r&b only Rock Rip MJ

  42. imusicjunkie June 23, 2012

    This list is a JOKE!

  43. Girrrl June 23, 2012

Albums that should have been on there:

Mariah: Mariah Carey or Butterfly or Emancipation

RIhanna: Rated R or Good GIrl Gone Bad

Beyonce: B’Day (4 was a good album though, I admit it)

    Madonna: Like A Prayer

    Whitney: Whitney Houston

Alicia Keys: Any of her albums

    Amy Winehouse: Back to Black

    Anita Baker—Rapture

S*** They should have made a list of 100 albums because too many albums got overlooked.

  44. kenny June 23, 2012

Faith evans had Faith keep the faith and faithfully all went platinum and the first landy went gold 1 of them should be on that list and she helped write on mary j bliges album my life

    • Gaaglooo! June 23, 2012

Gaga’s True Fans Love BTW And Think It’s Her Best Artistic Work, So We Leave The FM And Fame For Causal Fans!:-)

  45. Rashyb June 23, 2012

Stupid list, but sorry TGJ beyonces 4 wouldnt deserve to be on the list regardless. Stop trying to force this idea of it being a classic. It’s not, it’s an average album that adds to her average discography.

    • virtuoso intellect June 23, 2012

well the list isnt TGJ’s so ur point is invalid. call it average all u want, the critical acclaim is pouring in all over >>>> your opinion

  46. B-Socks June 23, 2012

    WOW!!!!
    What about…
    Brandy – Never Say Never
    Faith Evans – Faith
Amy Whinehouse – Back To Black
Mariah Carey – Daydream, Emancipation, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel [Classic even though was a commerical failure like the new classic “4” by Beyonce.]
    Toni Braxton – Secrets

  47. JohnVidal(RIP Whitney-truegreat) June 23, 2012

First of all: I´m not saying what they included is bad cos it´s not BUT
    – Albums like “4” or “Born this way” are there only cos they are recent
    – Best album by Alicia Keys “As I am” ? Please
    – Rolling Stone only cares about Rock so it´s normal that they don´t include Mariah. They never do
    – If there is an album who deserves to be on a list like this from the last 10 years despite being such an important list (supposed to be) is Back To Black. And it isn´t, that is just a joke. Rolling Stone were the ones saying Adele can´t compete with Amy and that she was not as unique and real as Amy (they said last a year ago when “21” was being released. Now that it is this massive success they include it and not Amy Winehouse
    – They should at least put Whitney´s first album “Whitney Houston”. They did it a few years ago when they named the best 100 or 500 albums of all time
    – Taylor Swift is on the list… PLEASE!

    This was a joke

    • PYTFROMAL June 23, 2012

      Well said.

    • TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! June 24, 2012

Taylor deserved to be on the list!!

  48. Anne June 23, 2012

4 is Beyonce’s best work thus far. Love that album, glad it made the list. Also great to see one of my other favorites, Aretha, sitting on top where she belongs.

    • FP June 24, 2012

Well damn she should make horrible music then, cuz all the singles released were horrible

  49. DJ June 23, 2012

Hmmm. Where is CrazySexyCool by TLC??

  50. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! June 23, 2012

OMG!! i just saw…. Theres a Taylor swift album on this list!! All of a sudden, I love the list:P

Watch for Taylors new album coming out soon.

GET READY FOR THE ONLY ALBUM TO SELL A MILLION IN A WEEK, THIS YEAR:)

  51. JohnVidal(RIP Whitney-truegreat) June 23, 2012

In Rolling Stone defense I have to say they are supposed to be about talent, not sales, so people complaining about whatever album not being there despite having sold millions makes no sense. Britney sold big way with her first too, and the poor girl is a musical joke
But yeah, the list is a joke. I´m SO SURE if this list were made in 2000, Alanis album would be like top10 or 20 at least. And I´m also so sure Gaga or Beyonce´s albums wouldn´t be included if this were made in 2040. So f****** sure. They just thought about the recent stuff and they didn´t even get it right with those recent ones

    • virtuoso intellect June 23, 2012

if the list was made in the 90s Whitney & Mariah woulda made it too but boom … barely 20 years later, the acclaim is reaching crescendo….

    • Nichole June 23, 2012

Uhm…no. You are constantly going in on Britney, and these lists aren’t based on talent.

F RS. Blackout, ITZ, Butterfly, Mariah Carey, TEOM, etc owns my life.

    • Legendtina June 23, 2012

It has nothing to do with talent. If it did GaGa and Taylor Swift would have never made the list. Neither would Madonna. You dont need talent to release an album that blows everyone away

  52. POP ROYALTY ( Révolution) June 23, 2012

70% agree. lots of ICONIC album are missing tho. amy winehouse’s “back to black” anyone ?

    but i’m glad “4” and “21” are there 🙂

    • Gaaglooo! June 23, 2012

Yeah Agree, Where Is Amy, Back To Black????? Even If I Don’t Care For Drepressing 21 lol

    • JohnVidal(RIP Whitney-truegreat) June 23, 2012

I can´t believe they omitted “Back to Black”. It´s the typical album you could expect to be on a list like this coming from Rolling Stone. I can´t understand it

      • POP ROYALTY ( Révolution) June 23, 2012

        i don’t use RS u guys ….. just saying.

  53. Johnbyars June 23, 2012

Mary should have been in the top ten that my life album is no joke ! But happy to see Mary in top 13

  54. Nick June 23, 2012

Brandy Toni Braxton & Monica should have something on this list of Taylor Swift made it? Come on nahhhhhh.,

  55. monstarebel June 23, 2012

THIS LIST IS SUCH B*******!!! FACT BORN THIS WAY MOST DEF DOESNT BELONG ON THERE! AND 4 WAS BEY WORST ALBUM I COULD UNDERSTAND IF I AM SAHSA FIERCE WAS ON THERE, AND WHERE TF IS LOUD OR GOOD GIRL GONE BAD? HUH ? F*** THIS LIST!!!

  56. MSSPORTYB June 23, 2012

Ummm.. 4 Shouldn’t Be On This List, IMO..

Janelle Monae’s “The ArchAndroid”, Mariah Carey’s “Butterfly” and Christina Aguilera’s “Stripped” Shoulda Def Been On This List !

  57. JohnVidal(RIP Whitney-truegreat) June 23, 2012

Sam man… why is Beyonce the one you chose to post a pic on this issue? Did she made it to #1 or something? 🙂 Too funny your stanning

I just can´t with some people. This is about the 50 best albums of all time (by females). How are Brandy, Monica and Toni Braxton going to be there??????????? Be serious. I´ve always loved Toni but she doesn´t have an album of that caliber. We are talking about “Back to Black”, “Jagged Little Pill” type of albums. “21”, etc. Rihanna can´t be there ither, are u serious? Some os u must be 13 years old

    • Anne June 23, 2012

Stop hating on Bey. They can pick a photo of ANYONE WHO MADE THE LIST, TOP, BOTTOM OR MIDDLE. They’ve done so many times for countdowns or lists. Now if they would have used a photo of Kelly Rowland or Rihanna it would not have made any sense and there would be just cause for criticism.

  58. monstarebel June 23, 2012

LIKE BORN THIS WAY WAS COMPLETE B*******!! REASON BEING WHY THE H** WAS SELLING IT FOR A 99CENT OF AMAZON F*** GAGA!!! KATYS TEENAGE DREAM SHOULD BE ON THERE SHES HAD AN ERA GOIN FOR 2 N HALF YEARS! SMH!!!!!!!!! I CANT WITH ROLLING STONE!

  59. Anne June 23, 2012

Good thing RS has enough taste not to include artists like Katy Perry, Rihanna, or Britney Spears. If either of those had made the list I would have considered canceling my subscription.

  60. mr.m June 23, 2012

    What????

Xtina’s Stripped shits all over this stupid list ..

    #JustSaying

    • Legendtina June 23, 2012

      I agree

  61. Nick June 23, 2012

Where the hell is Amy Winehouse Back to Black? that’s the most classic album of the 2000’s?!

  62. Christa June 23, 2012

Isnt anyone gonna conGratulate missy Elliott for making it into the top ten.

    That album was amazing.

  63. Anne June 23, 2012

ATTENTION SAM: It’s Donna SUMMER, not Summers. There is no s at the end of her last name. This common, unprofessional error irks me. Had to check to see if RS got it right and as I expected, they did.

  64. Nick June 23, 2012

where’s Norah Jones, Janelle Monae, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Sade?
    they are missing a lot!

  65. Legendtina June 23, 2012

The Cookbook>>UNder Construction in my opinion. The Cookbook is Missy Elliot’s best album. And how the hell did they nor include Back to Basics or Stripped?? I can MAYBE see Back to Basics being overlooked, but Stripped was one of the best pop albums released that decade. Even the most bitter Xtina haters liked Stripped.

And where are Pink’s early albums at? Nothing from Britney? 4 has nothing on DIL or IASF. Born this Way on the list? That album was full of Madonna left overs from the 80s that were reheated and served up in 2011. 21 higher than Jaggid Little Pill? Only one album from Madonna? I can go on and on. But then I remember its Rolling Stones who made the list and I forget they lost all their crediblity after their failure New Queen of Pop list

  66. DIGGER BEY June 23, 2012

People really shouldnt expect RS at all to show love towards Mimi and Whitney, because they are the same ones that ranked them outside the top 50. On their list 100 greatest artist of all time. I think they look @ Mariah, Whitney and Celine as Songbird Queens. When they are more than that. Whitney and Mariah each made albums that influence generations! WLGTDWI by Tina was a great one! And im surprise DIL wasnt on here, since the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame named it one of the breakouts n music history. Glad to see Mary on here! And YES! 4 belongs on here. The music is timeless than any of her previous albums. The Vocals! Top Notch n Pop Music!

i’m Ok with the top 10 except for Adele’s “21”, and where is Madonna’s “Ray of Light” and how the hell is Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” better than Madonna’s “Like a Prayer”, i mean C’mon no even “American Life”, anyway i lose respect for “Rolling Stone” since the named Lady Gaga the new “Queen of Pop” and then named Madonna as the only “Queen of Pop” because the whole world was hysterically angry, was next Justin Bieber named the new “King of Pop”, i think the best album by a female singer is Patti Smith’s “Horses”, that album inspired so many Post-Punk bands like “The Ramones” and i think Blondie’s album “Eat to the Beat” is a better album than “Parallel Lines”, i’m a huge band if the band so i know of what i’m talking about, Enya “Watermark” is one of the best album of all times, Bjork 1993 album “Debut” is a classic, Joan Jeff “Bad Reputation” is a masterpiece and please Taylor Swift in a better place than Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” is a joke, my personal favorite album by a female musician is “Madonna’s “Ray of Light” but that’s my personal taste, i think The Carpenters album “Close To You” is a sweet classic, also their album “A song For you” is great, the list is wrong in many things, and let’s be honest Beyonce’s “4” didn’t deserve to make the top 50, it’s a good album but there are so many great albums by other female singers, anyway is another list make by God knows Who, i don’t take these things so seriously.

    • S****** Blonde June 23, 2012

I’m a huge fan of the band, that’s what i mean sorry 4 my typos.

  80. Carrie June 24, 2012

DIL / IASF should have been on this list NOT 4- It flopped too hard compared to other 3 albums

  81. S****** Blonde June 24, 2012

I think Madonna’s discography is the best among all female singers, POP MUSIC, that’s why, albums like “Ray of Light”, “American Life” and “I’m Breathless” has to be in the list, By terms of influence, no one can top her impact on the music industry. ALL of the successful female artists today have looked up to Madonna in one way or another. It cannot be denied. As a performing artist, she is top of the line talent. With that being said, her discography is a mixed bag. She has improve vocally from her poor vocals from “Like a Virgin” and her debut album, but she falls short when compared to her peers like Mariah Carey, Celine and of course Whitney, and even younger talent like Adele but without her discography Pop Music wouldn’t be the same and the same for Whitney and Celine Discography, without those 3 Divas people like Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, Jennifer Hudson…ect..ect.. the list is probably made to reach a younger audience.

  82. Nadia Chase June 24, 2012

Umm hello what about TLC’s CrazySexyCool album or TLC’s Fanmail… those albums sold over 10 million copies and they not even on the list.. yall dont know good music TLC should be atleast in the top 20 or top 10

  83. Nazeem June 24, 2012

Amy Winehouse,Christina Aguilera and Mariah should be on the list. They are our Queen of Music 😀

  84. Nazeem June 24, 2012

4 is a good album but for me IASF is better commercially and in numbers..Congrats to KING BEY..Yes,although i’m a BeyHive, but where’s LOUD???It is one of the best album ever..

  86. Nazeem June 24, 2012

4 is a very good album..but IASF deserved to be there cause it’s better than 4 in numbers and commercially.

And although i’m a BeyHive, where’s LOUD by Rihanna??In my opinion,it is one of the best album ever. With a lot of number one singles,

One more thing,Mariah Carey should be there.

  87. Todd June 24, 2012

Serously? Wheres my MIMI?Daydream,Butterfly,The Emancipation,f***…even Glitter shits on that list!

  88. L-Boz June 24, 2012

  92. anna June 24, 2012

IM SORRY.. BUT I GET THE OBJECTIVE AND THE TERMS THEY USE TO MAKE THE LIST . BUT WHAT I DONT GET IS WHY THEY DIDNT INCLUDE AMY WINEHOUSE, SHANIA TWAIN OR MARIAH CAREY!!!! and i am not against lady gaga.. but BTW higher than jagged littke pill or pj harvey or hole???? nonsense… another thing.. i have read some of you fighting and arguing about album sales. this list did not consider album sales. album sales is not a synonym of good quality always

  93. Enquirer June 25, 2012

This is the most irracional s*** ever!!!!!!! I love B’ but come on “4”????? Jagged Little Pill on N° 50 spot?? Come on Rolling Stone could do it better than that, Aretha deserves it but Lady Gaga on 11?????? Come on Madonnna’s “Ray Of Light” is her best Album ever and is surpases many of the albums listed, No words…..I mean where do they leave, Shakira?? Amy Winehouse?? Joan Baez?? Britney or Christina???? and let’s be honest “Songs in a Minor” is way better than As Iam. Terrible , just terrible.

  94. BugZ June 25, 2012

    Where the hell is
    TLC (FanMail / CrazySexyCool),
Aaliyah (One In A Million / Aaliyah),
Whitney Houston (Whitney Houston / The Bodyguard soundtrack),
Mariah Carey (Daydream / Emancipation of MiMi),
    Amy Winehouse (Back to Black),
    Anita Baker (Rapture),
    Brandy (Never Say Never)
Monica (Miss Thang / The Boy is Mine)

  95. Tbozfan10 June 26, 2012

This list is kind of weird, like they just pulled names out of a hat. Madonna’s “Ray of Light” and definately TLC’s “CrazySexyCool” should have been somewhere Way up there. But instead you’ve got “Extraordinary Machine” by Fiona Apple?! Not hating on her she’s cool but really now?..

  96. commanderofthedancefloor June 26, 2012

amy winehouse back to black was both critically and comercially successful so why is it not on the list? it deserves top 20 definetly it is really a piece of art, and i think rated r should of made the list, then replace 4 with dangerously in love and move it up on the list, and change btw with the fame monster. then add shakira laundry service, extend the list also because i think there are too many good female albums to just do 50. add mariah carey to the list also, why the heck they left it off the i don’t know.

  97. juan alamag June 27, 2012

this is a crock of f***** bs of course you would have beyone on the cover you ass kissers to boost youre ratings tlc isnt anywhere to be found and the only reason ya,ll even posted this was because the juice did it 1st rolling stone ya,ll are nothing but a bunch of ass kissing copycats just admit it the juice kicked ya,lls ass fair and square without even tryin lame asses!!!

Aretha Franklin is the Best Female artist because of her diverse range from Gospel to R&B and even Opera. Her longevity warranted by creating a survey that named her the best ever female singer in the world.
