Report : Drake To Debut Aaliyah Duet This Week / Set To Produce Posthumous LP

Published: Wednesday 1st Aug 2012 by David

After casting his net in Rihanna‘s creative pool, it seems Drake is on the search for what we’d call a classier catch.

For today, the MC has found himself under the heavy gaze of the industry following reports he is to debut a ‘duet’ with the late Aaliyah at the OVO Fest this Sunday.

Details below…

A long time fan of the ‘Romeo Must Die’ actress, the vocalist’s alleged ambitions to release the new duet and produce her first posthumous album were unearthed by the folk over at Hip Hop DX.

They explained:

A reliable source with inside knowledge of the situation told HipHopDX that the Young Money rapper, who has a tattoo of the songstress on his back, will sit at the helm for her new LP.

Details surrounding the album are scarce, but in March, producer Jeffrey “J. Dub” Walker said that an unreleased song titled “Steady Ground” will appear on the project. Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, later said that no such album was in the works.

Yet to confirm the above report, the Young Money entertainer hinted at the idea during an interview with radio personality Tim Westwood back in March, as documented below:

Ms. Aubrey. I won’t have you using Queen Aaliyahs legacy to help your own. LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE and let the woman’s family decide what they want to do with any hidden recordings.

Anyway, don’t you have a lawsuit to handle boo boo. Focus on that and leave Aaliyah’s music ALONE.

    • OVOYOLOSTICKITINMYYOUKNOW August 1, 2012

Look here you dirty b****. You just worry about Rihanna’s drive thru p**** and leave grown folk to handle grown folk business. Drake has clearly got permission from the relevant people and so he will do what he’s got to do.

In the meanwhile I suggest you stop mentioning that goat sounding flop in this this thread. Just the sound of her name is enough to make balls itch.

      • MC August 1, 2012

“In the meanwhile I suggest you stop mentioning that goat sounding flop in this this thread.” lol you killed me with that xD

It doesn’t matter who drake got permission from! If her family doesn’t approve, then drake needs to leave it alone. On top of that, he needs to have timbaland and missy’s approval as well, just out of respect.

    • 16GrammysAndALacefrontToSnatch August 1, 2012

and just who asked for your opinion Navy?

      • QueenOfTheNavy August 1, 2012

    • Hush August 1, 2012

You have no proof that Beyonce ever wore a prosthetic bump, but we DO know that Rihanna’s mutant sized forehead ain’t a prosthetic…sadly for her, she was born with that flying saucer.

      • Benron (F*** you h**) August 1, 2012

        Yes we do.

Well I’m excited for new Aaliyah music.. But if her family are not behind it I’d feel kind of awkward.. I think drakes getting abit too involved.. What about Timbo+Missy?

  3. imusicjunkie August 1, 2012

Drakes weird ass f*** & obsessed. Let the girl rest in piece.

    • QueenOfTheNavy August 1, 2012

  4. KayeV August 1, 2012

i refuse ! hell no , i hope Aaliyahs family say no to all this .. his whiny voice all over an Aaliyah track ? nada bueno ..

  5. MC August 1, 2012

Have a seat Ms. Drake, better yet have several seats _/ _/ _/

  6. truth(the real truth honeychile) August 1, 2012

    OH GIRL REST!!!!

  7. Honestly Speaking August 1, 2012

He is so strange. I don’t know why he feels the need to try and hitch his wagon to someone like Aaliyah who was an amazing talent when she was alive. Her family should be the ones deciding when and if any unheard material is released. He needs to have several seats and get a life (and learn how to properly rap and sing while he’s at it).

  8. Pop Royalty ( F*** Yo Fav) August 1, 2012

just let AALIYAH R.I.P peacefully , why trashing her iconic discography with this trash ?

i know draka want to stay relevant an all , but she really need to stay away from Aaliyah , it is one thing to want to be Aaliyah , but do not do this to her. it is like those recent Michale jackson posthumous albums , yes you can hear the artist’s voice , but you won’t feel the essence u get when you have the artist’s album when he/she was alive and control how he wanted his/her damn album to feel like. i’m ok with compilations/greatest hits/best of /etc .. after the artist’s death to remind fans of the artist work or to make new fans , but to release a REAL complete album after death ?!! those kind of albums probably have unfinished material or leftovers that could have been rejected by the artist when he/she was alive FOR A REASON !!!! that screams ONLY $ MONEY $ to me !!!!
it won’t be aaliyah real album , at least that is me who’s talking ! and drake doesn’t have an iconic album herself and her albums are boring , so this can not be promising by any means. she can stay a fan of aaliyah as the rest of us , but don’t put your trash anywhere beside her name ! find another trick to stay relevant ! she can design new outfits for Nicki’s new gay clothing line ! at least she will get some gay love and will get $ !!!!

  9. monstarebel August 1, 2012

DRAKESHA IS TRYING TO MAKE HISTORY I SEE U BABY GIRL. XOXO 🙂

  10. lordmir August 1, 2012

    I feel the tragedy happened.
So let aaliyah in peace and does not make her ashamed

  11. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) August 1, 2012

On the one hand, UNFORTUNATELY, this “duet” will be good for Aaliyah’s legacy, because the simple minded generation is run by basic b****** who listen to Drake and Lil Wayne. Their only chance to be introduced to a quality artist like Aaliyah is through trash like Young Money.

On the other hand, it’s possible that he will destroy this girl’s amazing music with his coughing-talking-whispering style. The songs should be released with their original production. And even though I’m extremely pissed off by Aaliyah’s family and their lack of important decisions about her legacy (no biopic, no posthumous releases), I still prefer their hesitations to Drake’s ego and self delusion trying to take over.

    • Pop Royalty ( F*** Yo Fav) August 1, 2012

for real , this comment by you make me sad.

      • ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) August 1, 2012

Why, Pop? I don’t like the idea of him getting involved, but I know he’s relatively popular, so he would broaden Aaliyah’s legacy…

    • Eric August 2, 2012

Please don’t make judgements about Aaliyah’s family. They did in fact approve a posthumous release: the “I Care 4 U” album. Packaged within the double-disc version was a DVD tribute to Aaliyah. The family is not obligated to champion something bigger like a biopic, especially when you learn a little something about rights management and the filmmaking process. It’s not hardly what you think it is.

  12. Army Of Queen SLAYLIYAH (Queen Of Urban Pop) August 1, 2012

If He’s Gonna Be Using The Queen’s Music It Better SLAY , And Promo Correctly The Army Doesn’t Need A FLOP Attached To Aaliyahs Name !!!

    • I SLAY FOR REAL WOMEN WITH NO PLASTIC!! August 1, 2012

I KNW RIGHT!!! THAT S*** BETTER WI GRAMMYS AND IT BETTER BREAK RECORDS ON BILLBOARD TOP 100!!

  13. MISHKA August 1, 2012

    This beige mofo though…

Aubrey, We don’t need you to do any of this. Stick to your crew love and leave Aaliyah alone!

  14. Back2Business August 1, 2012

Why is Drake constantly sampling? Damn I wish he gets an identity! First he was lover boy, and now he a “thug” since he been hanging with Meek & French them. Just a confused child! #iCant .

  15. Back2Business August 1, 2012

Am I the only who doesn’t like Young Money? They’re trash and gimmicky! And I also don’t believe their numbers; Baby be buying 100K+ his damn self!

  16. TAYLOR August 1, 2012

He secretly wants to be her. LOL i like drake tho

    • Benron (F*** you h**) August 1, 2012

Drakeyelyn be getting d*** like girls and throwing bottles but thats not enough for him. He really has to become one, so he chose Aaliyah!

  17. Benron (F*** you h**) August 1, 2012

Sam your shade is stupid, he had Rihanna sing a hook that HE WROTE on his song and your trying to shade her and say that Drake should collaborate with a corpse instead because somehow its more creative.

And I find it hillarious he has an aaliyah tatoo on his back! But do the people he bottoms for get turned off since all their staring at is a woman?

    • Sheddig Light August 1, 2012

Pretty sure that he didn’t write the hook, since he sampled the song “I’ll Take Care Of U”….

  18. quetta August 1, 2012

    rofl, @these comments

  19. Benron (I sold Bey Her Fake Bump) August 1, 2012

    Drake is crazy tho.

  20. iSpeaksTheTruth August 1, 2012

Drake is obsessed with Aaliyah… He has a tattoo of her on his back and most of his songs are samples of hers. He pays tributes to her in all of his concerts. Face it, Drake is a Number 1 Fan.

This news does not surprise me…

LONG LIVE KING AALIYAH!! FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS!!!

  22. Arie August 2, 2012

This would have been cool if he had met Aaliyah now it’s just creepy, he has gone beyond the border of obsession. The only person who can capture her essence and do any Aaliyah album justice is R.Kelly. The fact that her family does not approve is proof right there that this is not about her legacy but some self serving people who want to manipulate this generation into believing that they had a connection with an Icon. As an Aaliyah I would support it if it was maybe Jay z (atleast he knew her) than this.

  23. Rihfan August 2, 2012

Drake please stop it. Just keep sucking R****’s a***. Stay away from Aaliyah’s music!

  24. DIGGER BEY August 2, 2012

Idk about this one. As much as he idolize Aaliyah, i doubt he would produce something wack. He might produce something iconic! Its good that Aaliyah’s legacy is still going strong! Where artists want to create some of her music. It just shows how innovative she was! I remember watching her Diary bac n 2001. When she said, if she died, she would want to b remembered as a great person and a full on Entertainer. By godly, her words resignate as just what she wanted. Miss u baby girl! ……………………………..@Queen of Navy 4 = platnuim n 6 months, with no #1s or top tens. TTT = 900k after 10 months on the charts, with #1s and top tens. Which is the Real Flop? #LMAOOOOOOOO

  25. Cassie August 2, 2012

NO! NO! NO! Drake, leave baby girl alone you confused dumbfuck

  26. mc the place to be!! August 5, 2012
