Reintroducing: ‘The Spill’ on…Ryan Leslie, Bobby V, & Avant

Published: Saturday 15th Sep 2012 by Rashad

Ever keen on keeping the masses abreast of fresh and/or often underrated talent, That Grape Juice presents ‘The Spill’ – a renewed look at not-so-new, yet active, acts.

Much like its ‘Freshly Squeezed’ sister segment, this revived assay aims to put the magnifying glass on talents who may not appeal to the buying public on a broad scale yet are still serving material that could easily spin side-by-side with some of today’s top hits.

Covering a kaleidoscope of genres, ‘The Spill’ is set to feature some names you probably know and love as well as some you’ll (soon) be glad to know.

Click below for The Spill on…R&B crooners Ryan Leslie, Bobby V, and Avant:

Fans of ‘Don’t Take Your Love Away’ divo Avant is taking to his tried-and-true formula for hitmaking:  smooth vocals, nice R&B beat, and Keke Wyatt.  And, with the latter making a splash on TV One’s ‘R&B Divas’, now may be the perfect time for the crooner to make his way back to the scene.

Already blessing fans with such hits as ‘My First Love’ and ‘Nothing In the World’, the duo return with ‘You & I’.  The first single lifted from Avant’s album due in early 2013, get your first listen below (thanks ThisisRnB):

‘Slow Down’ singer Bobby V may have seen his career do just that (slow down) since his 2005 introduction.  However, after splitting from mentor Ludacris in the late noughties, the Mississippi-bred maestro has been on the up-and-up in getting his name back on charts.

October 16th will see the release of his latest effort ‘Dusk Till Dawn’.  Led by the Lil Wayne-assisted single ‘Mirror’, take a glimpse at Bobby V in action below:

Quadruple threat ‘Next Selection’ impresario Ryan Leslie is looking to make a splash on charts this fall with his sophomore album ‘Les Is More’.   Due October 22, the ‘Diamond Girl’ divo – who haunted blessed the music industry with his monotone model protege Cassie – is looking to put himself back in the forefront with the project.

After suffering several pushbacks, Leslie fans will be bumping the new set before they know it.  Hear one of the cuts below:

Now I don’t mind any of these songs at all. Its all good here, but I must say, I would rather hear R-Les sing. His rapping is straight, but for me, I think his singing voice brings something fresher to the table. As far as the other guys, its all good. R&B is really in a state right now, huh? I really wish people/artist would band together and make a movement bc otherwise its (r&b/soul) going to continue to struggle. The same thing, in a lot of ways, happened to rock music. There hasn’t been any ‘real rock’ on American radio in years. What is going on? SMH

I really look forward to what Ryan has to offer. I loved his first album, favorite songs were “your fly” “out of the blue” “addiction”. Im not sure what his label situation is right now but he was under that awful cursed Bad Boy Records. He is so talented, he reminds me of Prince in the sense he plays instruments, writes his own music. He’s really underrated. Here’s to success in 2013 R Les.

Ryan Leslie should have had is own post. In a league completely by himself. He is a musical genius, and extremely underrated….. for now.
