Uhhh although I just wrote a post ripping Brandy to shreds I have to come to her defense on this one… One thing no one can say is that Brandy cant sing… Whitney chose her herself to play Cinderella, so that should tell you something… Her tone is impeccable… and me being an engineer, I know for a fact there is no autotune on her vocals ont his song what so ever… & its not always about range, its about tone… That is what carries the words so beautifully… And clearly Brandy is singing more from her gut these days, cuz you can hear the difference… And she can sing live, which is one of the things artists today cant do except bEYONCE.
As far a Dawn RIchard… I love my haitian sister, but she is not touching Brandy vocally… There do have a similar tone and husk to their voice, but trust me Dawn dont want it Brandy… Brandy lived with her vocal coach her whole life(her father).. She is a very strong singer… Although I love Dawn, and I will be supporting her movement cuz her songs and videos are awsome, I do have to say that Dawn doesnt sing that well live. Its like she practiced the dance moves but forgot the vocal training… She can sing for sure, but if you were to put her and Brandy on stage together,,,, u better believe that Brandy will set that s*** on fire… When Brandy wants to go in she can go in… trust and believe that she can take it to church when she needs to….

When you weigh up the quality of song presented by Dawn & Brandy this year, Dawn wins hands down but 1 clip of Brandy singing live defeats all that and every live effort Dawn has given off the back of ‘Amour On’. Except for her covers of I would die for you & cherish in NY, that was the holly spirit coming through and her BMI guitar assisted version of ‘Automatic’, Dawn gives very poor live performance.
Dawn needs to work strongly on her live vocal. If she could be as strong, captivating, controlled and adventurous with her live vocal as she is with her beats and lyrics, they’d be little to nothing to pick at. Her live is the only thing stopping her from becoming an artist selling out live venues with a huge movement.

I completely agree with you!!! I thought we were going to see a different, more ”hype” side of Brandy this go around. And this song is so basic and boring. The instrumental sounds like a fifth grader made it 🙁 and the song just isn’t memorable. It’s a shame…because I was rooting for her, but after hearing the last 4 leaks….I’m just not impressed. The best thing she has that I’ve hear from 2/11 so far is ”Put It Down”. The other songs sound like demos from 1998….I don’t understand….

Miguel dropped the video for his second single this week, exactly when he releases the album.
RCA isnt spending much money with their r&b acts. Only Alicia is having a big budget, and her music isnt r&b at all, excepts a few songs on her albums.
These days, labels spend more money on their biggest acts, and those are the ones who have been on the label during some years.
I dont like Brandy promo to date, but I understand why they hasnt spent a good budget on her yet. This is her first album with them, so they just want to wait for the response, and if her fanbase supports her more than last time, she will have a bigger budget with next singles and album.
This is how the industry works, even if we like it or not.
I just hope that the promo during the album release is really heavy and that most of her fans buy the album the first week, along with new fans too, of course.

I can’t lie – I hate Rico love songs too! This one works, only because Brandy is doing all the work! That voice, that voice, that voice – it’s just so soothing, versatile and distinctive. Brandy also has this way of making you feel something when she interpret a song, it’s never coming from an empty place. She knows how to make something that’s average – stellar. I enjoyed this song and I know that Brandy has soooo much more to offer on TwoEleven. She’s that kind of artist that can go anywhere musically. The sky’s the limit!

If I were Brandy’s management, I would have waited with the VH1 Behind the Music. I feel that was major hype and promo for her and the album should have came out the following week. I just feel major hype has been lost since then…PID made the people who already enjoyed her music a little something, but like I assumed, it didn’t draw in anyone new and the chart numbers prove that…I do wish her the best with this era as always though.

The R&B charts is a sub category and in all honestly the song doesn’t have to sell much or even have a lot of spins on urban radio for it top be in the top 10 on the R&B sub charts. A lot of gospel songs break into the top 10 on billboard r&B and itunes r&b charts. Besides, for someone of Brandy’s status the hot 100 is what really matters and breaking into the top 10 there as well as iTunes overall top 10. Again these sub categories aren’t really much of an accomplishment….especially in a genre that isn’t very popular….
