New Video: Bruno Mars – ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’

Published: Monday 15th Oct 2012 by Sam

Today sees Bruno Mars serve up the first visual taste of his ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ with the video for the set’s lead single ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’.

What are you waiting for? Check out the Cameron Duddy directed clip after the jump!

With Mr Mars keen to showcase different facets of himself with this project, the clip goes some way in helping achieve that goal. Indeed, its homage to 80’s retro sees the clip -for all its uneventfulness- stand out amongst the sea of “samey” videos doing the rounds these days. We’re still not entirely sold on the song, yet on the merit of his talent and back-catalogue Bruno has our attention. Does he have yours?

  2. JAKE October 15, 2012

This song sounds an AWFUL lot like something “The Police” did back in the 1980’s… Especially the chord-progressions and the Reggae-Based New Wave textures…

Still, hearing it in full for the second time, its a Good song. Very different. The video was quite cool also.

    GO BRUNO.

    😉

This song has grown on me since last time. I really appreciate Bruno traveling a different route and making a wonderful video. Great vid and great song.

We’re not done here, you admitted you liked Rated R and we need to discuss this further!

        Did you buy it?
        Why do you like it?
What are your top 3 songs?
        What did you hate?
HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE IT?
Do you like COLD CASE LOVE more than Triumphant?

        TELL MEEEEEEE!

      • MC October 15, 2012

        Did you buy it?

Yes, the only Rihanna album that I have. The only Rihanna album that I will ever have if she doesn’t get her s*** together ASAP.

        Why do you like it?

Its the only album that Rihanna has actually cared to be creative, honest, emotional, and taken initiative in and real raw interest in. This era she was actually a true artist.

What are your top 3 songs?
        1. Russian Roulette
        2. Cold Case Love
        3. Rock Star 101
        4. Hard
        5. Te Amo

        What did you hate?
I hated nothing from this era….even “Rude Boy” was a decent song in my opinion….I hate that Rihanna never retraced back into this era again. Her vocals were fine as well…could be a little better, of course.

HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE IT?

For artists like Rihanna I give it 4.95/5 stars (It was a pretty darn good album)

Do you like COLD CASE LOVE more than Triumphant?

Don’t push your luck! Triumphant is a good inspiration song (def not Mimi’s best) but in all honesty I think “Cold Case Love” is a better song; it can hold on its own. I think its actually one of Rihanna’s best songs right after Russian Roulette and Man Down….

        HAPPY?

      • Benron (King Of The F****** Navy) October 15, 2012

I love Man Down! AND SHE COULD ALWAYS HANDLE #RR Live SEE:

I am soooo happpy, but I have one question, what ppersuaded you to buy it? (Did you buy it first week?)

      • MC October 15, 2012

I really liked what I what heard from her so a friend of mine and I decided that we should get it…..it wasn’t the first week though….I lost the CD though (probably somewhere in my house)….my little brother whose 5 years old hides or throws stuff away so…..
But yeah, Rated R is the only album by Rih that I can’t knock down, in terms of album, promotion, singles, attitude, style, behavior, focus, MUSIC….

Do you have any songs that you listen to that isn’t Rihanna/J Cole/ Chris Brown related? If so, please tell me what they are!

      • JOHNVIDAL October 16, 2012

        For @MC and @benron
It doesn´t even matter which one of those two songs is better, that Rihanna song (I forgot about it) or Triumphant, when it comes to Rihanna´s artistry. Cos Mariah makes her songs and Rihanna has nothing to do with the making of hers. So any real artist will always win either way. It´s not even possible to compare those songs, since a Mariah (or Alicia or whatever) will always sound like a Mariah song and Rihanna will sound whatever the label decided it´s hot at the moment
        Case closed

      • Benron (King Of The F****** Navy) October 16, 2012

        @JohnVidal

I asked her which song she liked better, because we both like both the songs. Stop turning everything into an argument.

        @MC
Whatever I hear on the Radio is nice, but in Order I like:
        Rihanna
        Chris Brown
        J.Cole
        Sean Paul
        Bruno Mars
        Karmin
        Train
        Sia

My mon used to play one of Bob marley’s album’s and Fantasias album alot so I heard those when I was younger. I also listen to alot of HipHop/ but also like some POP/ROCK acts like TRAIN. And I think SIA (the girl who wrote diamonds) is very talented. Most other artists I find toleerable except Beyawnce, Incestra Whora, Lady FlopGa, and all those idiotic metal bands!

      • MC October 16, 2012

Lol, you basically have the same taste as everyone in High School (nothing wrong with that). I think you should explore beyond this generation to see whats out there —- this is how I discovered acts like Queens, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob M., etc…..You should try to listen to some Ethiopian music to test the waters, so to speak.

  5. whocares October 15, 2012

  6. DOSSOME October 15, 2012

Nice song, didn’t really watch the vid.

  8. ddttrs87 October 16, 2012

Love the song, like the vid, but it’s a complete rip of ‘Second Chance’ by Peter, Bjorn and John. SMH

  9. Hilly October 16, 2012

Damn the song, the video, I love it! It gives me Police feelings! I also agree with @DDTTRS87 for the “Second chance” reference!

  10. RUDE NAVY October 16, 2012

    not good mr. Mars.

and patient and viewers who have epilepsy will find a difficulty in watching this mess !

the song is good , but got ruined with this basic , seizures-inducing music video :s

    • ddttrs87 October 16, 2012

  11. JOHNVIDAL October 16, 2012
